Rating: Summary: The BEST Book I've EVER Read! Review: Not only did Jessica Darling's wants and needs fit PERFECTLY to mine, it seemed as though I was reading a book about me! It's one of those books where you get so involved with the characters that you feel you are reading your own diary! I couldn't put it down! I read it in 2 days! I had to literally force myself to put the book down! This book is definitely a MUST Buy! Every single diary entry is something new and amazing! I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!
Rating: Summary: That was me Review: I swear, that was me in middle school. I love books that make me happy and sad at the same time, and this was definitely one of them.
Rating: Summary: Never did understand the existence of the purple dinosaur... Review: Incredibly entertaining - I'm eager to read the next Darling novel. My best wishes to the author and many thanks for bringing back memories of high school in 'Pineville.'
Rating: Summary: Great Book For Teenagers Review: This book is so good!! Even my guy friends were picking it up and reading it. I just happened to see it in a bookstore and I'm so glad I bought it. Its hilarious and totally relates to teenager girls.
Rating: Summary: Sloppy Firsts - a Great First Novel!!! Review: It was a pleasure to be among the first to read, chuckle, laugh out loud, and sigh with sadness at this book. I laughed, remembering my eons-ago high school experiences. I groaned, as a parent, at the words of this teen girl. This is a different view of teenage years. Usually, you read about the unhappy overweight girl, or the child from the poor home who doesn't fit in. This is a different look, indeed. This girl did fit in, but felt like she didn't...and maybe that is what teen years are all about, after all. No one feels like they fit...everyone feels different. It is funny to hear it from the side of a girl who wasn't overweight, wasn't from an economically challenged family, and had no drug or alcohol problems. Interesting, indeed. The book is an easy read, and I found it hard to put down. From one old Jersey girl to a young Jersey girl, way to go, Megan. I am looking forward to more books!
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: Awesome! You live Jessica Darling's life right along with her...it's witty and you absolutly cannot put it down! 5+ Stars!!
Rating: Summary: My long lost twin sister Review: i loved this book, and i loved the main character. i saw this book mentioned in almost every recent magazine, so i figured i'd go and pick it up. well i read all 288 pages in two sittings. its hysterically funny while also being incredibly honest and sincere. The lead character and me, could almost be the same person, and i related extremely well to this book. being at almost the same point in my life as that of the books characters, makes this book ideal for any and all teenage girls, mostly since the author doesn't talk down to the reader, but more treats them like the intelligent lead characrer. this new author is definently here to stay, and i am already dying for the next installment of the Jess Darling chronicles. so don't hesistate to go and find out what everyone is talking about.
Rating: Summary: The Perfect Way to Relive Teen Angst! A Fabulously Fun Read! Review: I picked up Sloppy Firsts in a vain attempt to "recapture my youth," and by god, did it work. Not too long ago (I swear!), I was going through all the same high school b.s. that Jessica Darling, the savvy 16-year-old narrator, is experinecing in this book. Not only did I relate to Jessica's problems--her best friend moving away, cliques at school, finding a boyfriend, pressure from her parents, and most of all, the pressure she puts on herself--but I also realized how many of these issues are present in our lives no matter how old we are. Sloppy Firsts is about trying to find yourself, and whether your 17 or 27, that's a difficult task. Luckily, the author Megan McCafferty knows this, and has written a hip, hilarious novel that women, both young and young-at-heart, will fall in love with. Kudos, Megan! I can't wait for the sequel!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful True to Teenage life Book! Review: As soon as I started reading this book I realized that I was in touble. It's just one of those books that you can't put down, which isn't the best thing when you have writer's block and need to be writing a paper for school. There was never a dissapointing part in the book. This funny and true to life novel is the journal of a teenage girl named Jessica Darling. No one understands her excpet for her best friend who was moved away. She is left to hang out with girls that only care about being popular and who are known as "The Clueless Crew". In her journal Jessica writes about the ups and (mostly) downs of her first year and a half wihtout her best friend Hope. She writes about family, friends, school, boys, sex, and everything else that goes on in a teenage girl's life. I enjoyed this book very much and I can't wait until the next book about Jessica Darling comes out! P.S. After I finished the novel I decided that my paper would be a book report of this novel. I got an A!
Rating: Summary: On the real... Review: God, I love this book! I would never have known about it had there not been countless magazine reviews screaming it's praise. I finished it in 2 days. It's completely relateable, and it's very funny, too. The author writes as if she is actually a teenager. There's nothing "above you" that would give away that she is an adult writing, pretending to know how teens think and what they go through. There is no real drama. These are small-time issues, that, we as adolescents, make into melodramas. I found myself laughing because the situations Jessica gets into mirror my life. The crush that doesn't know you exist, speaking for what you believe in, even if you know you won't be backed up, having that one friend you can tell everything to with complete confidence not be there anymore...it's just a cool book. It doesn't hold back or sell out to cliches. Megan McCafferty is an excellent novelist whom I hope to see more from in the future. Buy it!
