Summary: Intelligence, with Heart
Review: I was all set to dislike this book - yet another girlfriends entry in an already crowded and a bit overdone market. But it is simply too good to dislike. Jessica is an intelligent, observant teen with heart and humor. Her friend Hope, a soulmate, has moved away and Jessica is forced to confront the world of high school with no one to share her true thoughts with. Cutting through what is real and what is fake in the people and circumstances around her is a painful business, but she manages to do so and still keep her sense of self and sense of humor. This is a very enjoyable read.

Summary: Review
Review: "Sloppy First" By Magan McCafferty. IF you need a good laugh, this book will do. Its about Jessica Darling's best friend Hope moves almost 1000 miles away. She is forced to hang with the 'clueless crew' and a jock who is crushing on her, Scotty. Jessica is forced to come-of-age. Jessica and Hope try to maintain there friendship over a 1000 mile distance. This book is tremendously funny and shows you how high school can be.

Summary: This is AWESOME!
Review: Oh my gosh! this is, with out a doubt, the best book I have ever read! It tells the TRUTH about what REAL girls REALLY have to go through! Sloppy Firsts is the story about Jessica Darling whos parental units are, in her opinion, freaks, and whos teachers and freinds think she has some serious problems.
Its about her coming-of-age and how she deals with not getting anything, to getting too much. This is a definate MUST READ. And I am looking forward to reading the sequal VERY soon!

Summary: LOVE Jessica Darling
Review: This book is just amazing, even when you used to be 15 or 16 (but no longer are!). It's very well written and there's lots of action. All characters are well developed, the setting is good, and the storyline is VERY good. And I like the little twist with Marcus Flutie!

Summary: A Blast!
Review: I totally related to this book and the experiences of Jessica, feeling mostly like a fish out of water myself! This is a hilarious, very easy-to-read book that I recommend to everyone. It deals with peer pressure, loneliness, shopping -- all the crazy experiences and thoughts that go through your mind in high school -- and in life! It's also very entertaining. I also recommend two other books: WILL@epicqwest.com by Tom Grimes and The Losers' Club by Richard Perez.

Summary: oh my gosh i luurve it!
Review: even tho i'm not in an american society and am a few years past teenage-hood, i still think this book is amazing and i can relate myself to the protagonist, jessica darling. this is a really cool book any teenage fiction junkie shouldn't miss. when i finished sloppy firsts, i couldn't wait to read its sequel, second helpings. and right now i'm readin it. jessica is like the catcher in the rye's holden caulfield cos shes movin on from her childhood to the unknown world of adulthood. and she hates everyone..i think maybe cos deep down she thinks everyone is "phony" (very holden talkin)..unlike her true bestfriend who moves away, hope. it's a comin-of-age novel that is wittily and charmingly written. i luuurve this book so much that i feel like holden caulfield when he says that when he reads a good book, he wants to give the author a call. someone says that you know when you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel as if you've lost a friend. i felt the same way when i finished this book but i was glad there is another one just like it, second helpings. i'm sure i will feel like i've lost a friend when i finish the second book. anyhow, it is great to have read such great books that can make me laugh and cry both at the same time. ps. i luurve marcus flutie..and i relate him to that boy jess in gilmore girls. haha. a smart, i-couldnt-care-less, bad boy hottie type.

Summary: Sloppy Firsts
Review: Jessica Darling's best friend, Hope, has just moved 1000 miles away. Hope was more than just Jessica's best friend, she was the only person keeping her sane. Hope's absence makes dealing with her pseudo friends, the ultra popular "clueless crew," unbearable. Jessica is also having boy trouble. The school's star jock, Scott, wants to date her but Jessica finds herself oddly attracted to Marcus, the school junkie.

This is the best teen novel that I've read in ages. Finally a novel about high school life that hasn't been watered down for younger readers. Jessica's bleak and sarcastic narrative about her fellow classmates will appeal to everyone who was miserable in high school. Daria fans will especially enjoy this series. I recommend this book to everyone, even people who can't stand the thought of reading a teen book.

Summary: A Hilarious Novel!
Review: Reading the reviews on this site I was finally encouraged enough to buy this book. I'm glad that I did because it's hilarious. I can't remember the last time I read something so funny! If you like to laugh buy this book! I also recommend the following: the perks of being a wallflower, the losers club by richard perez

Summary: Sterotypical highschool scene.
Review: I read this book a while ago. Since the sequel recently came out I didn't finish reading it. Just skipped to the end to find out whether Marcus and Jessica sleep together or not. Now let me explain why I didn't care much for this book or the sequel 'Second Helpings'. While this book was funny in some places, it was over-exaggerated. First off, the highschool scene was just too far fetched. Yes, there are cliques in highschool but none so snobbish as the ones mentioned in the book. That, (for me anyway) was more of a middle school thing. Um hello, we're older now. People are more mature. Another reason why I didn't really care for this book was because of the characters. A lot of them were a bit too superficial and fake. Jessica for example. She's a bit of a snob if you think about it. She seems to think that she is 'higher' than everybody else and no one is worth her time. Please. This book may have been cute at some points but for me it just doesn't cut it. I can't really relate to anyone. Books that I can relate to are The Princess Diaries series or The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The characters are more mature and the authors doesn't overemphasize the sterotypical highschool scene.

Summary: don't judge a book by its cover
Review: this book thought me really not to judge a book be its cover, i found this book remarkable, intersting, encouraging, deseptive, and totally awsome. The book is about a teen agers life, and her own love life, social life, and troubles, with her mom, sister, and the clueless crew, not to mention the whole student body of PHS. She learns to embrace her feelings, and to never judge a person by his/her appearance, i loved it, completly. At times i found it frusterating that it took Jessica so long to relize her feeling, and understand her self, but in the end this book rocked, do i have to say if you liked the first that you will fall head over heels for second helpings. I'm hoping for a third!!!!!!!!!!!
