Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but fake Review: I sort of enjoyed this book, but Jess Darling (Jus' darlin') was a little bit much to handle. She came off like a spoiled brat! I'm sorry, but I find it hard to feel much sympathy for a poor, tortured, drop-dead gorgeous girl who hangs out with the popular crowd (a.k.a. The Clueless Crew) because, sniffle, she is just so lonely she doesn't have any other friends. And we're supposed to feel sorry for Jess Darling because the most popular guy in school (Scotty) is dying to date her and she hangs out with the in-crowd. But, see, she really doesn't like any of these people, so it's like, totally tragic. To steal a line from the book, "boo-freakin-hoo." How about showing me a girl who truly has problems, one who truly has NO friends and NO prospects? This girl had no real problems, just invented ones because she was bored. If you want to read about real high school angst, check out "Speak."
Rating: Summary: Awesome book for those with difficult lives Review: This book is one of those books you cannot put down. Jessica Darling is your typical teenager - I would know because I am only 16. I started the book and couldn't put it down - I wanted to know what happens next in her life. From her outlandish cussing, missing her dear best friend, trusting someone who she found out later was playing her (although didn't truly mean to hurt her), dealing with mother/daughter pressure, and being the underdog in the typical household of 2 daughters makes this book one of the best I've read. Being that I have a life of my own, this book helped me realize that others have problems just like me. I wouldn't be surprised if they make a movie out of it because I am sure it would be a knock out in the theaters. And heck - I am pretty much just like the character Jessica Notso Darling - I would love to play the character - we have a lot in common ... I recommend this book for anyone going through the teenage peer pressure stage and for anyone who is past that stage and has kids or grand kids going through it. (so they can understand their problems - since times have changed!) Read the Book - YOU'LL LOVE IT - then read the second one!
Rating: Summary: Great book, but... Review: I liked this book a lot. It's a really great read; but I had some problems with it: first of all, Jessica is not a heroine one can relate to. She is not at all believable like she is promised to be, but instead fits the caricature of an angelic teacher's pet. Second, this book had a sort of pretentious air about it that I didn't like at all. But other than that, it was a good read.
Rating: Summary: WOW! you have to read this book Review: This is the best book of my life!! Im not even kidding! WOW! ok so, ive read this book 12 times, every time i laugh and am seriously moved- ive lent it out to all of my friends (and i feel seperation anxiety when i dont have it) and they all return it to me saying they dont know how they were living before reading it- seriously, this is every girls life story! please read it!
Rating: Summary: Amazing... Review: Jessica Darling is like any other teenage girl. She has her own problems, and she struggles with them. She may be at the top of her class, but she still has problems. I think that everyone can relate to Jessica Darling... Even if you aren't smart like her. She goes through real life events such as, her mother loving her sister more, or being completely obsessed with her. Her father being completely obsessed with her sports career more than anything else. Teen Sex. Drugs. Her best friend moving away. Everything. She experiences it all. You have to relate to her, because she is a very relatable person. I think it is an amazing read, and everyone should read it. even if your in your 40's. You might get a look into the way teenagers look at life now.
Rating: Summary: Sloppy Firsts Review: Sloppy Firsts by Megan Mccafferty takes us through the mind and life of a highschool girl named Jessica Darling. She is like so many high school teens who do not know where they belong. She struggles to find secruity without her best friend Hope, who had to move away from Pineville. Her so called friends the "Clueless Crew" has a different objective in their lives such as boys and social standings. Her parents also place a great amount of pressure on her to be a perfect track star or an outgoing girl like her sister. An event in their high school with a girl named Hy, causes Jessica to express her feelings about life in the high school newspaper, which causes her to become known to many new people. An incident with Marcus Flutie early on in the book, later brings a relationship of close ties between Jessica and Marcus. The book ends with Jessica ending a friendship with Marcus, and Jessica is awaiting the arrival of Hope. This book was one that any teenage girl would enjoy reading. It could help those struggling with issues in their life. The book was written in a way that teenagers can relate to which makes the book an enjoyable one.

Rating: Summary: You wish you were Jessica Darling Review: I read this book when I was 13 and a 1/2 and I was like "Man, I wish I had more problems like Jessica's. My life is so blah blah blah." Sloppy Firsts is never boring, yet still easy to relate to. Jessica Darling lives in the suburbs of New Jersey. Her best friend moved away. Her crush doesn't know she's alive. She cannot relate to her parents or sister. In conclusion, Jess must deal with the suckiness of teenage-hood, the same suckiness that all people cope with at some point of their life.Jess feels like an outsider, but the reader can conclude that she is in fact the hippest person around. Also, this book is hilariously funny.
Rating: Summary: simply brilliant Review: Never have a read a more funny, touching, and accurate depiction of life in high school. Move over Holden Caulfield . . .
