Summary: Sloppy Firsts... (not sloppy at all)
Review: Most teen books you read, the characters are put in situations that wouldn't normally happen, so you can't relate to them. Jessica Darling's story is very, very different. You get to know Jessica through her thoughts and feelings, and come to love her 'unique' way of looking at the things that her world is focused on. Watch her be challenged, changed, and improved, fall in love...
When her best (and only) friend Hope moves away, Jessica doesn't want to go on. Her mother is obsessed with her perfect sister's marriage, her father is obsessed with her running, Scotty is obsessed with her, and she is obsessed with Paul Parlipiano. Enter Marcus Flutie: A "Dreg." What does he want with her, and why does she feel like she wants to know him better... a budding romance, perhaps? An endless circle of secrets, lies, love, friendsip, and the courage that it takes to do the things that seem so little at first. A story for all ages, a novel written for the time we are in. Sloppy Firsts is a top reccomendation from me!

Summary: Jessica Darling- Your average teenage sarcastic genius
Review: A little melodramatic is the only complaint I could have for this book. Hilarious, yet oh so true. Jessica says all the things in this book I wish I could. Funny, realistic, one of the best teenage-drama books I've read in a long time. I highly suggest you check out the sequel as well... it keeps getting better!

Summary: The Tales of an Unaverage Teenage Girl
Review: Sloppy Firsts is an accurate representation of the teenage girl that many people over look. Jessica Darling is a sophomore in high school whose best, and only "real" friend, moves away. This leaves Jessica devestated, and causes her to alienate herself from her other more superficial friends. This book brings to life the pains of a more mature high school student who sees above the superficiality of cliques, fashion and gossip. Jessica is not only one of the smartest people in her class but also one of the most over looked. This book is for anyone who has ever felt underappreciated or has dealt with the pains of an American high school. McCafferty captures the essence of the unaverage high school girl in an insightful and inspiring way. Although depressing at time, I've never read a book that explores the mind of an untypical teenage girl so well. A great read I must say.

Summary: the best book
Review: this book is possibly the best book i have ever read. as a fourteen year old, and an avid reader, i started sloppy firsts assuming that it would be just like any other teen novel: girl meets boy who shes thinks she has no chance with, girl falls in love with boy, etc. etc. etc. although sloppy firsts does share chatereristics with other teen novels, its witty writing, comedic timing, and overall greatness makes this one of the best books i have ever read

Summary: Best Book Ever!
Review: This book is so great. It is written in the form of the journal by Jessica Darling and is a hysterical account of her sophmore year of high school. I loved this book because it was laugh-out loud funny and definately a page turner!

Summary: The BEST Book Ever!
Review: I am 24 years young and loved every second of this book! Luckily, I read it after the second one was finished, so as soon as I finished reading this book, I got to go and pick up the sequel - Second Helpings! Now I am so sad that there are no more books about Jessica Darling. I also let my 14 year old neice read these books while she visited for the summer and I could hardly pry her away from reading for a second. It is awesome to read about a strong, highly intelligent female who is going through what we all have to go through at some point in our lives. Get this book for yourself, and one for every girl you know as a gift! It is wonderful!

Summary: Some things never change
Review: At 32 years old, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have already ordered the sequel.

The author writes with a voice that is appealing to teens and adults alike without insulting anyone's intelligence. (Jessica's affinity for all things 80s certainly helps draw the attention of us older readers who are feeling nostalgic.)

I absolutely devoured this book. The language and wardrobe may be different for the high school students of today, but their insecurities and frustrations are exactly the same as those we had twenty years ago. While reading it as an escape from pretty large sized adult life problems, the book entertained me but made me remember at the same time how tough it was to be a teenager. The problems (in the scheme of life) were much much smaller, but the pain was so much greater.

Definitely recommend for the adult crowd.

Summary: The truth from someone who knows
Review: Take it from someone who knows: Sloppy Firsts, as well as McCafferty's sequel Second Helpings, is basically the Bible when it comes to High School agnst. Every high school has a Scotty, a Manda, a PePe, a Bridget, a Sara. Every girl sees herself in Jessica Darling and believes she's destined for Marcus Flutie. This isn't just my opinion. Ever since I read Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings it was my mission to have everyone I knew read them. Almost everyone I knew has, and they all feel the same way I do. Let's just face it: High School is Hell. These books have helped me look at that fact and laugh. If you are currently in High School, will be in High School, or have ever attended High School this book is for you. If none of those scenarios apply it you, read it anyways, you won't be sorry. I promise.

Summary: A good idea that went downhill
Review: Despite the rave reviews this book has been getting, I found the overall story not only unrealistic, but depressing to boot! I have friends that I stop talking to because they whine like Jessica Darling did, and by the middle of the book, I had to force myself to keep reading. If you want a real high school experience, check out "Speak" or "Catalyst".

Summary: One of the bests
Review: This book, along with it's sequal, Second Helpings, are both amazing books about a high-school girl, Jess Darling. Her best friend Hope recently moved away and she finds herself hanging out with the "Clueless Crew". She begins a unconventional relationship with Marcus, the dreg who was a role in Hope's brother's overdose and death. She finds herself at odds with her family. Her mother and sister who can not believe Jess will not date the "catch" who is woeing her, and her father who is overly involved with her cross-country career. This book is an awsome documentation of Jess' junior year in highschool. You are reading her journal, into which she pours her heart and soul into.
This by far is one of the best books I have ever read.
