Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: Jodi Picoult has written a beautiful love story, chocked full of emotion. I was involved with the characters from the very beginning. From the very first paragraph, I was on an emotional rollercoaster. This novel not only painted a wonderful love story, it also demonstrates how difficult sometimes it is to be a parent, wanting only the best for your children. I could not put this book down and I demonstrated this by finishing this in record time. I had never heard of this author before, but you can bet I will be reading more of her.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Review: Jodi Picoult is fantastic, and one of my favorite writers of all time. Whenever her books come out I rush to buy them and am always disappointed when I reach the last, always gripping, pages. This book left me with so many unanswered questions, but not in a disatisfied way. It left me wondering why people do the things they do sometimes, and it left me wanting to crawl inside the character's minds and understand why and how, and what would have happened if things were different. What a great read.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: I was "assigned" this book as a part of a book club--I assumed it was going to be a "Romeo and Juliet" kind of book--Jodi Picoult writes so well, that I could "see" the story and feel the emotions of the characters right along with them! Once I started reading, I couldn't (didn't want to) put it down--I'm on the hunt for her other books--this one was good reading!!
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: I thought that this book was absolutely breathtaking. I couldn't put it down, it just drew me into the story. The love between the two main characters just seemed perfect and fairy-tale like until you get further into the book. It was such a good book. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Review: This was literally one of the best books I've read in a long time. It made me go out and buy every one of her books - none of which was a disappointment. She's such a talented writer, I'll be buying her books for many years to come.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Book Review: I couldn't put this book down. I have probably purchased 6 of these and sent them all over the country to friends. Although my teenaged kids have all grown and gone it made me wonder just how well I knew them during that age. the characters in this book are erily "next door" kids. I have read it 3 times myself and have more feelings about it each time. Thank you Jodi Picoult for making some of us really think.
Rating: Summary: A true page-turner! Review: I truly recommend this book, I could not put it down. I read it for my book club and only 1 person out of 12 did not like it (that's a first!) It really digs into the lives of the 2 families represented and does a great job of telling the story- in detail. I love the way the story was written, and it's very easy to follow both the "then" and "now". Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Just Not My Cup of Tea Review: I can see by the reviews on these pages that there are a lot of people who loved The Pact. I am not one of them. While the story may have had some potential, Picoult doesn't develop anything. There is nothing special about this novel at all, it's just a run-of-the-mill story. No humor, no character development, no believable characters, no thought-provoking observations, nothing to distinguish it as anything but a quick read. She skims the surface, gives us predictable and somewhat boring and indistinguishable characters. As a quick read, it's not awful, but that's about the best I can say.
Rating: Summary: Chillingly suspenseful, beautifully written Review: After I read the summary of "The Pact" and Amazon readers' reviews, I knew I wanted to read it. Managing to find a copy at the library, I sat down and turned to the first page, not realizing just how engrossing the novel would be. The subtitle "A Love Story" is actually quite misleading, as it never is a sappy romance novel. The book centers around two families, the Hartes and the Golds, where Emily Gold and Chris Harte grow up together eventually becoming lovers in adolescence. Their love for each other is so strong that they become inseparable, the two of them literally melding into one individual soul. Thus each would do anything for the other, even if it involves the most extreme. For parents this book will make you reconsider just how well you really know your own children, and for teenagers like me this book will truly make you aware of just how powerful love can be and what the potential consequences are. The story was so realistic at times I didn't even notice it wasn't taking place right in front of me. I recommend Jodi Picoult's "The Pact" because it is an emotionally intense and moving novel, a serious book that gets right to the heart of the power of true love.
Rating: Summary: A "Must-Read"! Review: I finished reading "The Pact" last night; truly one of the best stories I've read in a very long time. I actually got annoyed several times when I had to put it down to do something else: like work, or some sleep. The alternating chapters of "now" and "then" was the perfect sequence of character development. The sub-title of "A Love Story" was a profound description of the Hartes and Golds. Truly a deceptive title; not a mushy, sappy love story as we all know as the norm. This story touched me and showed how the power of love has so many consequences.
