Summary: Wow.
Review: I have never read any other books by Jodi Picoult.

I will now.

The Pact was simply an amazing book. It was incredibly thorough. There are times that I will read a book and feel sad at the end of a happy ending...Why? Because the author rushed it. Yet Picoult took her time, the right amount of time, and finished with a bang.

This is the story of two teenagers, deeply in love, and a suicide pact. Or was it not a suicide pact? Chris and Emily grew up together from day one, and every memory was filled with the other as a permanent fixture in their life.

Yet one of them is dead, the other alive, and two families, best friends, are torn apart? What happened on that night?

Picoult takes the reader through an amazing book, leaving me, personally, in tears at times. Her knowledge of the court and trial process, along with her understanding of the love between those two teenagers, was immense.

I would recommend this book to anyone. It truly opens your eyes.

Summary: The Pact
Review: I loved this book! It's by far one of my favorites. Jodi Picoult, the author does a splendid job of creating an image of how one problem makes different people react in different ways.
This is a tale of love and tradgic loss. But it is also a story of recovery, and the ways of coping with your mishaps. It is a romantic, comedy with the twist of drama provided in the law portion in the story.

Summary: I identified so strongly on many levels
Review: THis is a moving, long story whose protagonists are two adolescents,Chris and Emily. Having grown up together, they were as close as two sides of the same paper. The themes are close friendship, suicide, sexual abuse. So well written, and so haunting. I'm writing this review two years after having read THE PACT, and it still haunts me. It was, yes, disturbing, and at the same time, an insight into the emotional decision making of adolescence.

Summary: A Wonderful Book.....Smiles, Tears, and Laughter
Review: THE PACT was one of the only books I have read that has given me a physical pain inside when I read it.
It made me really think about the issues involved in it. Can I maintian an open and honest relationship with my children as they grow into teens? Have I ever experienced a love so great with another human being so as I would do as they wished even when it would destroy me?
This book was wonderful. I cried for 2 days while I was reading it and it still haunts me now, two days after I have finished. I am definately going right out and getting more books by this author.

Summary: Could Not Put It Down
Review: The Pact is by far my favorite Picoult. The story is so moving - leaving you so much to think about, almost like you are solving a mystery - a courtroom mystery. This very adult novel brings back teen memories about the power of love along with the heartbreaks of being a parent. I could not put it down. A good friend and I loved this book so much and had so many discussions about it that we decided to start a book club.

Summary: Legal thriller slowed down by romantic backstory
Review: This story of a teenage suicide pact gone bad is really two genres in one. It is told in present time and flashback, through alternating chapters. Think "Law & Order." The present story, called "Now," is a competent legal thriller, centering on whether or not the surviving teen is guilty of murder. The interlaced flashbacks, called "Then," tell a love story of the ill-fated teens and their close families. Overall, the author's method is not successful. The present story is far more compelling than the back story, which constantly kills the pace of the book. The other big problem is credibility. Many of the situations just do not ring true, including the abrupt ending. Still, the characters are compelling and there's a bang-up trial sequence, so the book is recommendable as a good beach or airplane read. But that seems far short of what Ms. Picoult was aiming for here.

Summary: I broke my wrist turning the pages so quickly....
Review: If you read but one book this month - make it THE PACT.
This incredible book is such a page turner - taking on the close knit friendship of two bright, interesting, women and their two teen age children. Despite all the information given on the back of the book - this is still a gripping, addicting mystery with a courtroom drama and twists that don't stop.
Its the kind of book you start and then encourage your children to fix their own breakfast...lunch and order pizza for dinner!HAve told all my Eng major pals about this book

Summary: I read it twice
Review: I read this book twice just to make sure i didn't miss anything the first time. It kept me coming back to see what the characters would do next!

Summary: The Pact is a heartbreaking novel
Review: I was forced to read a fictional novel at school and this book was recommeded to me by a couple of librarians. I honestly never read and I can say that this wasn't a boring book at all. Jodi Picoult's novel is truly page-turning. You don't want to let go of the book because it is written in chapters of "Now" and "Then". You want to find out what happened in the past and what will happen in the future. The main characters are about two children destined for a life with each other. Their innocent friendship blossoms into a lustful love. Everything they have together and could have had together ends with a single gunshot. Jodi Picoult focuses on family, relationships, and the balance of love by examining each character's struggle with guilt and sorrow. This novel is well paced and easy to read. Jodi Picoult's novel is in such detail. It makes you picture everything in your head. The Pact is a great book for young adults, especially teenagers. I was able to relate to the story better because I am a teenager myself. I'll probably read more of her novels. I highly recommend The Pact to others out there.
