Summary: Comparable to the love story between Jack and Rose-Titanic
Review: By far, the best love story ever written. As an avid reader of all types of books, I found this book to be one of the best. I have passed it along to various friends and family and all have loved it as much as I have. I have yet to find a person, man or woman, who has found anything at all negative with this piece of literature.

Summary: More than just teenage tragedy.
Review: Jodi Picoult opens THE PACT with a bang, whose reverbrations are felt throughout the entire book. One could easily acquire whiplash of the fingertips, reading at a steady pace to try to discover what was behind the so-called pact that Chris & Emily made. Emily is dead, so only Chris can answer that, & why is he so reluctant to tell the true story?

How many of us have experienced a love such as the one these youngsters share, & why would they choose to end it rather than continue sharing it? Growing up in comfortable middle class families, Chris & Emily have been together literally since birth, & as is pointed out, have lived almost as Siamese twins until they matured enough to begin dating. The dead Emily is almost deified by her family, but who knew what really went on in her sensitive, artistic mind? The live but physically & emotionally wounded survivor, Chris, is suspect. Charged with Emily's murder, he is instructed by his hot-shot lawyer to tell no one the 'truth', not even him.

By examining numerous moral issues - truth, honesty, the law, the sanctity of marriage, abortion, the gifts of life & death - to list a few, Picoult gives us enough fuel to feed a literary discussion for years. There are never tidy answers for the questions these topics raise - only more questions, opinions, & no one is ever 'right' or 'wrong'. One thing is certain: the thoroughly stimulated reader will not put this book down without knowing its characters very well, or having some opinions of his own.

Will "the truth set you free"? Read this gripping account - a superb book full of barely hidden gems.

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: This thought provoking book should be on everyone's must-read list. Once you begin you will have a very difficult time putting this book down. I didn't want it to end. Anyone who has ever had to deal with the suicide of a family member will be touched by the prose used to decribe what the two families had to endure. Ms. Picoult should be commended for a book well done!

Summary: A Valuable Read!
Review: While the subject matter is dark, I couldn't put it down. The way the book is structured in time allows you to get to know these tragic figures during happier times and become involved with their lives. Jodi Picoult's characters are so totally believable, the situation so compelling, I became involved at once. This book required me to sort through emotional issues and revisit and question long-held attitudes, and that, in itself, holds tremendous value.

Summary: A page-turner with a heart.
Review: As the author, I must have read THE PACT dozens of times, and the ending still gives me a jolt. I think it's because unlike most page turners or legal suspense novels, you get a chance to crawl into the minds of the characters. And what parent HASN'T wondered what they do---or do not know about a child? Happy reading...

Summary: The Pact
Review: My friend was supposed to read this book for school, so I found it in his backpack while we were in Europe.

For the next two days after, I read it all the time. No matter where we were. The bus, the lobby of the hotel waiting for everyone, lunch, etc. I sat up one night until 2:45 reading.

I loved how it went from Past to Present. And the twist at the end, really makes it interesting.

Summary: Healing
Review: I probably would not have read this book if I'd really known what it was about as we had recently lost a child to suicide. However, I am glad that I read it. It was enormously healing to read about other families facing the same sort of loss. The story was also well done. I could completely understand why the main characters acted as they did and also see how tragically unnecessary it was. Great book. Nicely written, believeable characters.

Summary: *amazing*
Review: Annotation: Two teens who have grown up next door together from birth and have spent most of their lives with each other are now 17 years old and dating. One night both sets of parents get the phone call no parent ever hopes to get: their daughter is dead and their son is hurt but alive and with her. This is first considered a suicide pact and then a murder. As the months go on the son ends up in jail awaiting his trial. This story follows two families that are as close as can be but are now seperated. It has a suprise ending... this is all I want to can say because I don't want to ruin the book Ü

Author Bio: Jodi Picoult has received an A.B in creative writing from Princeton and a master's in education from Harvard. The Pact has just recently been made into a film by Lifetime and she has also written 6 other novels. She resides in New Hampshire with her husband and 3 children.

Evaluation: I could not put this book down. It was a tear jerker and you could feel the emotion of book very strongly. This is by far one of the best books I have ever read and I would like to find a copy of the movie. All I have to say is that I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and it's a very touching story. You will not forget it.

Summary: This book left a lasting impression...
Review: Jodi Picoult has the knack for character development like no other.
She has created individuals in this intense story that you love, hate, but definately care about. When I finished this story (don't want to give anything away..) I found myself wondering what the characters might be doing now.. That's not an easy task for a writer! The storyline of a botched double suicide, love, courtroom
suspense adds up to nothing but addictive reading!

Summary: WOW I love this book!
Review: From the moment I picked it up, I couldn't put this book down. It was great. I swear, I had never read a book that got to me like this book did. I read another book by Picoult before, and I love how she writes. This is the only book ever that has made me actually cry. The Lifetime Channel made a movie of it but it was nowhere near as good as the book. I think it was very real. The way the character's feelings are described were just very real. I loved the description she uses. I know I will definitely be reading this book again! I definitely recommend it.
