Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Review: I'm a poor and struggling college student so to indulge and spend almost $20 dollars on a book was a risk. But "She's Come Undone" is one of only a handful of books that has stuck with me and had me question my own values and self worth. I hadn't related so strongly to a charachter since I read a "Catcher In The Rye" a few years back. "I Know This Much Is True" did not disappoint. I read it from cover to cover and found myself crying in the lunch room at work, it was so powerful. Wally Lamb is writing about emotions in ways few authors have been able to do. By all means buy the book and enjoy the story.
Rating: Summary: After this book, who could ever feel sorry for themselves? Review: One of the most intense literary experiences of my life. Literally had to put the book away on occasion to step away from the raw emotion Lamb taps into -- but couldn't stay away long. I just HAD to know what happened next. If I ever had delusions of becoming a writer, I'd give them up now. Not sure how anyone could top this. Wally?
Rating: Summary: Fabulous -- Begs for discussion in a lit class or book club Review: Twins, monkeys, (twin monkeys?). I loved this book. The 900 pages went by like nothing, and as Oprah said on her show, "It just keeps going." Trite ending? Maybe, but I think it was the right ending. Kudos to Oprah for finally choosing a book about something other than a weak woman who makes bad choices and whines about them for pages and pages. I live reasonably close to the College where Lamb teaches -- boy would Ilove to take one of his classes, but I bet by now they're impossible to get into. Buy it, read it, love it, pass it on!
Rating: Summary: VERY COMFORTABLE READING! Review: I almost forgot I was reading a book; it was so much like flowing through someone else's life. Wally Lamb could only get away with covering so many topics in one novel because he is such a good writer. Just as in "She's Come Undone", I was left with wanting more more more.
Rating: Summary: A moving and engrossing story of redemption and healing Review: I loved "She's Come Undone," but I relished every one of the almost 900 pages of "This Much I know is True." Wally Lamb has such a way with characters...in this latest book, you make peace with every character in the end...even those which, in the beginning, you hated. I will read it again and again.
Rating: Summary: A quick, fast paced read Review: I picked this book up on a Friday evening and finished it on the following Monday. The story itself was enjoyable but I agree with a previous reviewer who thought the ending was just a little too neat. Dominick's life did need to make a turn for the better since for a few months everything seems to be going against him, however, Lamb didn't leave much for the imagination. I wouldn't call this the best book I've ever read, not by a long shot, but it was worth spending a weekend with and then forgetting.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book Review: Wally Lamb is one of the most gifted writers today. The twins are great. It made me look at Mental Illness a different way.
Rating: Summary: This book is a wonderful, moving read. Review: I speant three days on my recent vacation, totally engrossed in this novel! The layering of Dominick's story along with his Granfather's wove a detailed look into a struggling and dysfunctional family. I found myself loathing Dominick at times, but always hoping that he would find the answers to the questions that were always plauging him. I cheered for Dominick at the end of the novel, but wished the conclusion had more detail. I hated to leave these characters at the end! I could have read more! I have already passed on the novel to a friend with high praise.
Rating: Summary: COMPELLING PREMISE,TENDER IN SPOTS, YET SOMEWHAT CONTRIVED Review: I guess SHE'S COME UNDONE really set me up for a quirky off the wall, well told story, and don't get me wrong, Lamb is an excellent writer. I think he just got a little overambitious in this erffort. It appears that as he was nearing the end of the novel, he fell back on convention to tie up plot threads as neatly as Thomas' arm flap was sewn over. For such a big sprawling, messy novel (so like life!) the ending disappoints. But I will still take a disappointment from Lamb vs. a home run by a lesser writer.
Rating: Summary: This book was very moving and REAL.Life is hard. Review: This book was an eye-opener for me to understand the pain that people that suffer from schizophrenia go through. It was really heart-warming to see the relationship that Dominick continued to have with his brother despite the shame that often goes along with mental illnesses. He was open to everyone about his brother and never denied him. It was beautiful. Also, being a Christian, I was really happy to see the story of redemption that Domenico experienced with the great confession with the priest. That getting rid of pride, bitterness and resentment releases the soul.
