Rating: Summary: This is an excellent book for all readers. Review: I found this book evocative of Pat Conroy's Prince of Tides. The family relationships involved with a mental illness and the growth of a typical "American" male are similar threads through both books. Lamb's novel should appeal to all types of readers. For the casual reader, the engrossing story of Thomas and his twin Dominick tied in with the grandfather'story will provide in depth entertainment. For the serious reader, the theme of the circles and intwinings of our lives and family histories is fascinating and thought provoking. It is well worth taking the time to read and digest this multi-layered novel. The transofmation of Dominick is inspiring and should make this book required reading for all men wanting to make changes in their emotional lives. One of the few books I've read this year (I average eight a month) that I would unreservedly recommend to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Lamb is the best American writer in at least 50 years Review: Beware beginning this incredible journey of a book. You'll neglect your day to day obligations and find yourself not able to get up for work from reading till 4 a.m. Every sentence is meaningful and incredibly written. I felt these characters were living and breathing, not fictional at all. I had to take a two week hiatus from reading anything once I finished I Know This Much Is True. It was in reverence that I grieved the ending of this powerful story. And the two I've read since (though by my favorite authors) have dissapointed. Nobody holds a candle to Wally Lamb.
Rating: Summary: Wally Lamb proves he also writes from the "heart of a man." Review: What a talented, sensitive writer! It was hard to believe that She's Come Undone, his first novel, could have been written by a man. In, I Know This Much is True, he reveals a story that is kept secret in many families. Not unlike domestic violence, the effects of mental illness to family members must be revealed to stop the continuing cycle.
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for another treasure from Lamb!! Review: I read this book in 2 days, couldn't put it down. Now I can't wait for another one. I found the characters interesting and intriguing and was fulfilled with the ending. It was all I thought it would be after the treasure I found in "She's Come Undone." I look forward to other works by Lamb.
Rating: Summary: A gripping, touching story; better than "She's come undone" Review: This book is very moving. By the end of it, you feel you know these characters quite well. The only complaint I have about this book is the over-indulgence in the use of the "F" word, which, as a matter of speaking, also clarifies quite well the degree of anguish these characters must have felt. I just feel it was used too much. Other than that, and if you can possibly bypass that "irk", this 900 page fiction novel is wonderful and moving. "she's come undone" has a sorry ending, im my opinion and I found this book's ending to be the best part. It was a hard book for me to put down. I found myself carrying it from room to room trying to read MORE and MORE! :) Gotta get it! Jamie Smith
Rating: Summary: Clumsily written, but an excellent paperweight Review: I've tackled many 900+ page books before, but none of them felt as much a chore as Wally Lamb's emotionally manipulative and overwrought I Know This Much to Be True. Well I know this much to be true: Lamb's book is good at pushing the buttons of reader sensibilities by pushing all the hot button issues, but it fails to tackle a basic understanding of good, lively writing. This book need not so much an editor as a mop to clean up the emotional molasses.
Rating: Summary: I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Review: Don't let the 900 pages turn you away!!! I found the characters in this novel very real!! Mr. Lamb's character development was excellent, you know each of them, you love each of them and you hate each of them! I was not bored for a minute, I was enthralled with this book and picked it up every minute I had to find out what was going to happen next with Dominick and Thomas!!There is a lot to learn in this book I really would recommend it to anyone!! You won't be sorry!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't wait to finish! Review: This saga was richly written and kept my attention until thelast page. The characters were believable but it was so-o-o-o-o long!It seemed as if Wally was tired of writing and rushed the ending, wrapped it up too fast. I will recommend the book to those those who are up to it emotionally, it can be draining.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book!!!! Review: This book is really awesome. Just when you think there is a lull in the story or nothing else could possibly happen...Bam! Another shocking twist to the story! Don't let the 901 pages scare you away..you won't be able to put the book down!! I can't wait for the next novel!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This book DESTROYED me Review: Powerful, moving, haunting. It brought me to tears more than once. I couldn't put it down....and yet there were times I was just emotionally unprepared for what would happen next. Everyone will recognize these characters, either in yourself or someone you know. You'll be emotionally drained by this book. It taught me this...that our past is never far. Its why we become who we are. Wally Lamb is truly gifted.
