Rating: Summary: Boy Oh Boy! Review: Man the trajidies just never end in this book. The characters in this book were just that characters. I felt so bad for the twins.Talk about your bad things happening to good people. This book would be a hellava movie. Tru DAt! Way to go Wally my boy!
Rating: Summary: It has the power to heal. Review: Every so often you stumble upon a book that has within it's pages the power to help heal one's troubled spirit. Wally Lamb has written one such book. This reading experience will change your life. Thank you Mr. Lamb.
Rating: Summary: Compelling, intriguing, and heartfelt Review: Wally Lamb writes so believably in this novel, as well as in She's Come Undone. I found the main character real and vulnerable: the author writes in a way that truly involves his reader. Dominick, the main character, suffers throughout life due to his difficult childhood and mysterious origins. The ending of the story is so perfect, the way every loose end comes together in a beautiful, appropriate conclusion that leaves you genuinely happy for the characters.
Rating: Summary: Athletes need coaches and novelists need editors Review: Athletes need coaches and novelists need editors--even superstar athletes, and even high and mighty novelists annoined by high priestess Oprah and showered with praise and cash. This book reminds me of the old joke about baseball: "twenty minutes of action crammed into three hours." It's also exactly like watching Meryl Streep act: you're amazed at how skillful it is, but you're never not aware that what you're watching is...Meryl Streep acting. The author's voice is a familiar one among academic writers, that of a grownup who spends too much time around teenagers--exhaustingly glib. Even during the wholly unbelievable tome allegedly written as a memoir by the main character's grandfather (I _really_ had trouble with the ol' "willing suspension of disbelief" here), the author *still* can't turn off his oh-so clever voice. Augh! Wally Lamb is also infected with a mild case of John Irving disease ("think _that_ was wierd? watch what I'm going to ! ! make happen _now_"), and this book would have been better if it had been shorter by a third. It's one of those books I enjoyed, even marvelled at, at times, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It's too...undisciplined, too much a story of unhappiness written by a happy man.
Rating: Summary: I would read this again and again Review: This story was about so much more than twin brothers and the illness which one of them suffered.
Rating: Summary: I MISS THESE CHARACTER SO MUCH I STARTED OVER Review: As soon as I finished this book, I wanted to start my relationship with them all over in case I might have missed something. Wally Lamb's ability to bring us to the hearts and minds of these characters makes us feel that we are a part of this story. The symoblism and mysticism never stopped and brought us deeper into the story.
Rating: Summary: 1 of the great books of the 20th Century! Review: "I KNOW THIS MUCH TO BE TRUE" is a book with remarkable insight to the human spirit. It was impossible to put down! From beginning to end one is drawn into this family & their history. My emotions were touched in a very unique way. Everyone should read this book..."I KNOW THIS MUCH TO BE TRUE!"
Rating: Summary: Emotional Rollercoaster! Review: After many late evenings and equally as many early mornings, I have finished the wildest literary ride I've ever embarked upon. How is it that one author can so completely pull you in and involve you in people's lives? Wally Lamb is an amazing talent. His perception, introspectiveness and mastery of everyday English language are the stuff that the most memorable books are made of. What could be next?
Rating: Summary: Fascinating Review: This was the best book I have ever read. When I first picked it up I told myself this was not my type of reading. But then I could not put it down. The characters in this book are so real. And you just can't wait to see what is going to be revealed next. I recommend this book to everyone!
Rating: Summary: Read it! Review: You'll laugh, you'll cry and you won't put it down until you have read every word of it.
