Rating: Summary: An Average Book Review: This book started out slow. Dr Race was made out to me too wimpy to have accomplished all the daring things he did in the book. The other characters were not really fleshed out. My method of telling how good a book is how long it takes me to read it. A 5 rating I will read until it is finished, all day and night!!! This one took me 4 days. It was just not thrilling enough to pull me in but it was okay reading in a good setting.
Rating: Summary: ADVENTURE/SUSPENSE/INTRIGUE/WOW! Review: This guy can write, he had my attention throughout the book on a roller coaster ride and the ending was also great. He is on my list of authors to be on look out for from now on. No movie based on it I think could ever do it justice.
Rating: Summary: An adventure worthy of Indiana Jones Review: O.K. so alot of the action in this book was very far fetched, but it still was a very enjoyable book. It is a book you can escape into and go along for a thrill ride with Race and his cast of characters. If you want to read just a plain old fun, exciting, and fast paced adventure novel, this is the one!
Rating: Summary: Place tongue firmly in cheek, open book, and enjoy! Review: This book reads like a James Bond/Indiana Jones adventure. A mild-mannered guy finds himself thrust into the adventure of his life when he goes on a mission to Peru to find a lost idol. His task is to translate some old writings. He's spellbound by the writings because of the tale of danger, intrigue and survival they tell. But nonetheless he wants to get the mission over with and return home because an old girlfriend that he'd loved and lost happens to show up on the mission. In light of her successful career, and the fact that she seems pretty fond of another guy on the mission, he feels like a first class failure. And as if that wasn't bad enough to spoil his day, he senses that something just isn't right with this mission. The next thing he knows, he's thrust into the middle of a plot that could end mankind. What's a mild-mannered professor to do? What follows is a LOT of action, a lot of bad guys, and a lot of fun. Sure, while reading you've got to reign in your realism, and let your imagination run wild, but if you can do that, you're in for a lot of fun. The story is enjoyable, the dialogue is pretty good, and the action is fast and seems to never end. Just as in an Indiana Jones adventure, danger is always around the corner and the "hero" has interesting ways of getting out of each sticky situation. And as in a James Bond adventure, he has a few nice gadgets that come in real handy. The story changes focus now and then, allowing the reader to follow other characters and witness the trouble that they find themselves in and must get out of. But despite this change in focus, the story doesn't get confusing. In sum, this is a fun read that I would recommend.
Rating: Summary: temple Review: excellant read. Pure excapism at its best!
Rating: Summary: Clive Cussler on steriods, fantastic. Review: Temple is an incredible read that kept me turning the pages non-stop, this is the type of action/adventure book that other writers should take notice of. Except for a few plot holes ... this is a novel that will keep you up all night. Can't wait to read the rest. Good work Matt.
Rating: Summary: MOVE OVER INDIANNA JONES!! Review: This was a very fun and exciting book that I found by accident thanks to ... TEMPLE reads like a great action/adventure read that moves like a speeding bullet and does not let up. Only hollywood can only hope to get a great script like this and make it into an exciting summer action flick in the tradition of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK meets THE MUMMY RETURNS! I can't wait to read ICE STATION next, which is the 1st novel written by this 27-year-old author who writes way beyond his years. His best is yet to come! If you like your reading in high adventure and lots of exploding action - then this ones for you. A stolen idol that came from the stars 400 years ago and has the power to destroy earth - secret armies from all over the world are all fighting for it - giant cats from the far past - lost Incan tribes and temples - blood and guts - love affairs of both good and evil - if any of this interests you then TEMPLE is waiting for you...
Rating: Summary: Cinematic! Review: Reilly writes movie screenplays that read like novels. They are enjoyable and the movie plays effortlessly in your mind. The only thing slow about this book is the flashback/historical sequences. I can't wait to see if they make Reilly's books into films. If they do, they'll be fun to watch. Reilly is one of the best escapist/adventure writers out there. I've read "Ice Station" as well. Can't wait to get my hands on his other books. If you want deep, skip it. If you want fun, dive in!
Rating: Summary: Good foundation, but falls short... Review: When I saw "Temple" at Stockholm Airport, I was immediately intrigued by the story on the back-cover, so I decided to buy it, never having heard of Reilly before... The setting of the book most definitely is fascinating, in the rain-forests of Peru and the storyline basically is equally fascinating, especially by weaving the historic element of the manuscript of Alberto Santiago into the present-time plot. So the foundation really is there for a great book. That it has not turned out just this great book is mainly because of the main-character William Race, whose sudden metamorphosis from university-prof to super-duper-hero is not only greatly exaggerated, but also the feats that he accomplishes are way too super-heroic, more like a James Bond than somebody a "normal" guy could relate to. That again Nazis have to play the part of the bad guys is no minus in my book, because this part is plausible and credible, because many emigrated (or rather fled) to South America and even though it'd been a little too black-and-white (heh, and this with Nazis;) for me, the thought of a well-equipped colony somewhere in the outback of, in this case, Chile is not absolutely unlikely. So, if you do not expect too much realism and feel appealed to exotic settings with weaved-in historics, then this book is something for you, fluidly written...
Rating: Summary: this dude rocks! Review: I picked up Matt's book, ICE STATION on the spur of the moment in the mall (I dug the cover so I just picked it up)..I couldn't put it down! Since then I have been starved for another one of his books..I ordered temple and loved every page! While, I did enjoy ice station better I still have to give this one five stars! His action is unrelenting and his characterization is awesome...you like when the bad guy gets their butt kicked and get bent outta shape when a good guy dies...the river chase alone is worth the price of this book! OUTSTANDING! Sure, it's far fetched...but it's far fetched and STILL entertaining, which is sometimes hard to come by...a must have!
