Rating: Summary: A WRITER ABOVE THE REST! Review: The 'Temple' is an action/thriller masterpiece. Having followed Matthew Reilly's books thus far (contest and Ice Station), Matthew seems to blossom with each book in providing the reader with a new concept of reading. Matthew's books are guaranteed to have you lost in 'his' world from the moment you read the first sentence, until finally having drained the final words and closed the cover, breathed deeply, then realised that you spent the last twenty four hours on a roller-coaster ride...and loved every minute of it. How many authors can offer the reader this for the price of the book. Not many. As with Matthew's previous novels 'Contest'( of which I have an autographed copy of the original thousand)and 'Ice Station', this writer continues to prove to his readers that he indeed writes FOR the readers. If you want to read a snippet of Matthew Reilly's writing prowess, a short story titled 'The Mine', a piece Matthew Reilly did recently can be found at the Sydney Morning Herald.Although short, 'The Mine' keeps with the Matthew Reilly tradition of sensational hold-your-breath suspense sequences and character created brilliance that only he can do. As for the 'Temple', YOU MUST READ IT! Simple.
Rating: Summary: Slapstick Adventure Under the Guise of a Thriller Review: It could have been a good book. The cover looked good, the flyleaf was captivating and the storyline had real potential with nice historical underpinnings. But, it was overwrought with unbelievable scenes and too many last second escapes. It seemed as though he was writing it for a James Bond screenplay rather than an adventure novel. Novelists have used the Nazi storyline since the 1950s, and it seemed to die out in the early 1990s. Not in this book. Anymore it seems like a hackneyed crutch used by a novelist to provide the archetypical bad guys. By the end of the book I felt I had been taken in by a bait and switch con. Slapstick is not what I enjoy reading and had I known what I was getting into, I never would have invested the time to read it.
Rating: Summary: My 2 Cents Review: All right to start things off,I feel that this book was a good read except for the fact that at some times it got a little wordy; but overall I was drawn to this book like a moth to a flame.I read Reilly's previous novel,Ice Station, which was a wonderfully constructed work of literature.I just feel that Temple didn't quite live up to Ice Station for a bunch of little complaints such as:the ending was a little confusing or as previously mentioned wordy but these can be ignored. An excellent read overall.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I Ever Read Review: Temple is a sci-fi thriller, a military fiction novel, and a historical fiction novel all packed into one nail biting edge of your seat book. It was undoubtably the best book I have ever read. I think that any movie producer would be a fool not to make this a movie. I hope that Matt Reilly will write another book, I have read both of his so far. Until then I wait.
Rating: Summary: Over the top, big time Review: For pure escapist nonsense I liked Ice Station, a story that just kept on snowballing up. This is similar non stop action and you need to suspend belief for the entire book. In Ice Station the hero is a Special Forces soldier, the hero in this is a mild little archaeologist who, by the end of the book, could take on James Bond, Dirk Pitt, Jack Ryan etc single handed, so is less believable then his previous hero. To me, this was like an Indiana Jones film, a non stop rush that should not be thought about for even a nanosecond. If Mr Reilly can peg the next one back just a little there is a very entertaining book in him.
Rating: Summary: Hard to belive Review: This book should have been right up my ally, I am a 17 year old guy who loves action adventure, but this book made the last Dirk Pitt adventure I read seem like a serious look at post cold war espionage. The book is fast paced and does have a good plot-It is a 'fun' read-but I found after the third time the 'hero' was saved at the last instant, I could not suspend my belief any longer. Think of an Arnold Scharznigger movie on a double dose of steroids and you have this book. I actually think this book would have been better if the author had toned it down a bit. If you like comic book adventure this might be a book for you, but you might want to wait for the paperback.
Rating: Summary: The man who writes screenplays Review: Suspend belief and enjoy this work as it is. Engross yourself in the gun battles and the feeling of near death. It is one constant ride. Kick up your shoes and enjoy the ride...who knows you might even get a new outlook on life.
Rating: Summary: One hell of a ride! Review: WOW! This book is still in the UK bestseller charts, which makes it a breath of fresh air from femi-nazi nonsense like the godawful BRIDGET JONES! In this exciting action-adventure, William RAce, an archaeologist, is called in by US government agencies to decipher an ancient Inca manuscript and search for an idol carved from the rare mineral Thyrium-261. This mineral forms an essential ingredient for a weapon of awesome destructive power . . . which several parties are desperateto get their hands on. The action moves at F-22 fighter speed across South America as our hero Race takes on Neo-Nazi stormtroopers, a doomsday cult and warring factions of the US military in some blazing action scenes involving various military hardware and the latest gadgets. Also, when Race reads the manuscript, you get a swashbuckling adventure that would rival Wilbur Smith's recent epics as we are taken back to the 16th century and the Incas fascination with the Thyrium-carved idol. Never before have I read a novel that is nothing but fast action AND contains an interesting double-plot story to match. Seriously, folks, this would make one hell of a blistering movie. I just hope Matthew Reilly keeps on churning them out. Step back Clive Cussler, a new kid is on the block!
Rating: Summary: Another Non-Stop Action book from Matt Reilly Review: Now if your looking for one of those predictable, plausible action adventures, where you get to take a breath between every couple of chapters, stay away from Temple. Once things get rolling the pace does nothing but increase. Plausible.... not a chance, but I read books for enjoyment, and I enjoyed this one! Matt Reilly really has some imagination and flare for the unbelieveable. This would make a great movie. I look forward to more works from this author. (P.S. Check out Ice Station from Matt too, wow!!)
Rating: Summary: Good but not great Review: Temple is very fast paced, I could not put it down, finished the book in one night! One downfall is that, the storyline is more like a Hollywood movie. The hero gets everything, accomplishes incredible feats, A bit over the top since the main character is a professor/linguist from NYU! A college profressor fighting hostile assassins?? Anyhow, I recommended Temple for those who enjoy Scwartzniger movies, but keep your expectations and common sense low. One of the other reviewers Recommended "A Tourist in the Yucatan" I must agree, a very belivable thriller/adventure.
