Rating: 2 stars
Summary: good start, disappointing ending
Review: I always like a book where people go after the government (little guys go up against big guys), but this book manages to take a theme that I am pre-disposed to like, and wreck it. There is some good action (hence the 2 star rating), but the thing that destroys this book is the lack of resolution at the end. Maybe there is going to be a sequel (???), but frankly, getting ripped off by a poor ending means I am unlikely to buy another book by this author.

What I mean by this is the very reason that the group goes after the government (to make it balance the budget -- yeah even that is a little lame) is not resolved. Yes, there is plenty of neat action and so on, but after all the expenditure of energy and ordnance, does the budget get balanced? No answer to this left me feeling thoroughly ripped off and angry.

Readers who are predisposed to enjoy this type of genre should go buy John Ross' "Unintended Consequences" instead.

Summary: And they call TOM CLANCY a jingoist?!?!
Review: Click on over to any of his books and that term's all over "customer reviews". But he's chump change in that respect alongside this Flynn dude. Look at the blurbs from book reviewers on the inside cover of this book and it's "Clancy look back--someone's gaining on you". The difference is that Jack Ryan & co. come across as ADULTS rather than overgrown adolescents. This story starts with commando-style hits on a congressman and two senators. But everyone from the press to the White House to the freshman congressman who's Our Hero is saying "They deserved to die". It struck me along about the third repetition that if this were a movie, I'd be lip-synching the remark and annoying other viewers. And you will notice that there are no positive minority characters here--none whatever. Instead, what we get is a slighting reference to a black congresswoman by one character--he thinks all she does is obsess on political correctness and look for racists around every corner, plus the fact that one of the commandoes makes himself up to LOOK black. In fact, with few exceptions, the book is "Eire-o-centric" to the point of aw-come-on. I know that as a "Kraut-Mick" myself it isn't supposed to bother me, but it really grates on me. The whole message here is that elected officials are all self-serving and don't belong in office, but if you carry that too far, it verges on disrespect for the voter. I mean hell-oooo? Real people voted for this "shadow government". Real Americans. In the real world, I myself voted for two senators and one congressman. It's getting to the point where "unworthiness for office " simply means "my party's guy should've won". Yeah yeah yeah, it's trendy to talk that way nowadays. But so are the Spice Girls.

Summary: Excellent debut for Flynn. Think it could ever happen?
Review: I was impressed with the "high-tech"ness of this author's first work. Could Americans ever get fed up enough with dishonest, digraceful politicians to assisinate them? This book makes you wonder! The action was great and the story moved well. I loved the unpredictable ending. I can see a beat up Arthur Higgins lying dead against a fence just as Flynn described it. Two thumbs up and both eyes open until the very end!

Summary: This book is almost too terrible to comment on!
Review: To say this book is beneath contempt is kind. If you accept the position that you can kill anyone you don't like then this is your book. To begin with, the FBI wouldn't investigate murder, that's local and state area, and then to present the position that if a politician is crooked you can kill him, no problems with the law, that's just absurd. Save your money, not worth your time.

Summary: An edge-of-your seat thriller page after page
Review: I absolutely could not put this book down. This was a political thriller that got me so totally involved I was jumping at shadows. At first I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, but found myself slowing down so it wouldn't end! If this is Vince Flynn's first book, I can't wait to get my hands on his latest, "Transfer of Power".

Summary: One of the best action packed books I've read in a long time
Review: Term Limits was quite a surprise for me. I picked it with only a mild interest, as it turns out it is one of the most intriguing books I have read in several years, and I have recommended it to all my friends. I think we will be hearing more about Mr. Flynn if he continues to write such interesting books.

Summary: Well worth reading.
Review: I enjoyed this book, but I have to admit I preferred the more lighthearted (if killing congressmen can be considered lighthearted) and more satirical "Blind Luck" by Ben Cooper, which has a very similar plot. However, this is very much worth reading.

As Mark Twain said "it can be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly American criminal class except Congress."

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A frustrating, disappointing read
Review: The plot -- assasins knocking off Congressmen and Senators they find morally reprehensible -- holds some promise. The problem is that Vince Flynn lacks the talent to do anything with it. His dialogue is ludicrous, particularlly the exchanges between Michael O'Rourke and his girlfriend. But none of it rises above what would be expected from an 8th grade creative writing class.

Even more disturbing than the awful writing is the message Vince Flynn sends with the story. Basically, murdering elected officials IS democratic, as long as they are sleazy. He concocts a thinly-veiled satire of the Clinton administration and makes the argument, however subtle, that those with high ideals must restore "order" by whatever means necessary. As a Republican, I initially found the Clinton-Stevens similarities to be amusing, but quickly became disturbed by Vince Flynn's implicit approval of revolutionaries and "freedom fighters."

My advice: avoid this book. Even if the story speaks to you, be warned that the writing is truly awful. Though if you want to laugh at some pitiful dialogue and narration lousy enough to make you cringe, then Term Limits is the book for you.

Summary: Fast Paced, lots of action, never boring
Review: This is one of the finest books I've read in a long time. I couldn't put it down. I'm almost sad that I finished it. I've read other reviews by those who nitpick the prose and don't think the characters were developed enough. My response to them is to get a life. The story is very entertaining and I highly recommend it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great writing style, leaving you wishing you hadn't finished
Review: The book is immensely enjoyable. It is easy to read...actually makes you postpone other activities so that you can see what happens next. The best reaction of all for me is when I immediately want to read other work by the author...and I just ordered the other novel by Vince Flynn. Great action, wonderful characters and a plot that kept me glued to the very end...and even wanting a sequel.
