Rating: Summary: Nothing special Review: This was an easy read, but it was a cheap thrill. None of the characters resonated with me; indeed, they all seemed one-dimensional. Where was the vice president during all this? Did the politicians get the message? We have no idea if they decided to shape up.
Rating: Summary: A THINKING MAN'S READ Review: Many books being published to-day have the same repetitive theme to them - - - us against the outside world. Vince Flynn reverses this premise and describes the enemy inside, namely crooked politicians whose only pursuits are promoting their own selfish interests, at the expense of the voters who put them in power in the first place. The selected assassination of some of these politicians and the panic and irrational actions that ensues in Washington from the President on down ensures the reader a story line that is gripping in its telling. As the story plays out, the reader will eventually gain a grudging admiration of the assassins and then be in total empathy with them. This book will hit a sensitive spot with most readers in their attitudes to-wards a certain breed of to-day's politicians. If Mr Flynn's next book is half as thought provoking as "Term Limits", he is a real winner.
Rating: Summary: Term Limits Review: I found V. Flynn's writing style to be highly entertaining, while still acomplishing what he set out to do: write a political thriller. His characters are well developed and easy to love/hate. I really enjoyed this work because it made me wonder- how much of the story line of this book is possible? The answer may scare you.
Rating: Summary: Fun and Entertaining Review: I hadn't heard of Vince Flynn until I received Term Limits as a gift. Now I can't wait to read Transfer of Power. I found Flynn's first book entertaining and exciting with a great balance of detail and action. The characters were clearly developed and not tediously so. This book has everything I like in a novel. I had fun from start to finish and highly recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: 'Another tale of politicians and commandos' Review: You would think that I would have enjoyed this book; afterall, the protagonist has the same name as I. By the very truth of it, however, this book bored the devil out of me. If you are reading this book as your first novel of this genre, well, then, you may love it. For me, this book offered nothing new; the characters are typical; the dialogue is weak and paltry; there are too many 'covert-commando' cliches, and the plot is the same old 'political-thriller' rubbish. The book is trendy and fits into the mold of 1990 fiction. If you are looking for something new, something creative and different, I advise reading another tale.
Rating: Summary: Not Exactly Impressed Review: Elements are here for a great book. Plot is strong, but motive is weak. Renegade Congressman assasin is barely believable.
Rating: Summary: A truly hideous novel Review: I'm not sure what disturbs me more -- the reckless and dangerous plot or how poorly written this book is. To summarize, Flynn argues that the people in a democracy have the right to assasinate their leaders when their political values are being ignored. Is this guy for real? Democracy is about the will of the majority -- if the majority vote in a set of politicians, the rest must accept the outcome and work to elect representatives who share their views. A novel about political killings is fine...but not a book that argues that murder is justified (as this one does). As for the book itself, it is very poorly written. Charachter development is non-exsistant, the dialogue is so bad it's funny and the pacing can't hold a candle to Clancy or Grisham. Avoid this reckless, awful book.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: I just stumbled on to this, but I loved it. To be honest, this is the best read I'd had in years. It's right from my heart. I hate Washington politicians, and something drastic has to be done, but it has to be done just right. A good summery would be a thinking man's "Turner Diaries."
Rating: Summary: Definite must-read... Review: Very well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I was very impressed with this first offering, the characters were very well developed, the book had a very interesting plot line with some nice twists, and the author was very adept at showing you things instead of telling you things.
Rating: Summary: Move over Jack Ryan, here comes Michael O'Rourke Review: A fast paced and Fun read. Not to techie and long winded but packs a Clancy punch that Tom needs to get back to. Vince has created a cast of characters that could be used over and over with many different situations and I hope he does. Who the heck cares about the political aspects of the book which I will not expand upon but read this for the ride and you'll not be sorry
