Summary: A book I'll never forget
Review: I'm fourteen years old, and my counselor at camp read us this book every night. Everyone in our cabin thought it was just awesome, and it is a summer i'll never forget. This book deals with subjects everyone ages 13-25 can relate to: sex, drugs, and finding out who you really are. The book has wonderful character dynamics, it was a pure pleasure to see Chappie going from a unhappy, drug infested, rebellious teenager to someone who finally figured out who he really is; and who he really wants to be. I thought the most interesting part in the book was when Chappie went to Jamaica with I-man, and discovered sex, drugs, reggae, and rastafarianism. This is truly a modern classic that every teenager should read, and a book i'll never forget

Summary: A modern-day CATCHER IN THE RYE.
Review: An powerfully written novel--BONE stands with CATCHER IN THE RYE as one of the novels that strikes a chord for a new generation of free-thinkers. Banks creates an incredibly complex character in Bone who holds several similarities with Holden Caulfield. By the same token, the novel chronicles a journey of such spiritual magnitude and passion that it calls to mind the characters of Mark Twain--a must read for all who love great novels.

Summary: don't miss....can't put it down
Review: As the father of two teenage boys I can't recommend this book enough. Like all of Bank's books a wonderful story about overcoming life in America from the wrong side of the tracks. Great!!!

Summary: I'm so glad I found this book
Review: From a 15 year old kid's point of view this book was amazing. Definitely NOT for adults, but great for kids that are either sure about who they are (this book might make you think twice about that) or haven't figured it out yet.

Summary: Rule of the bone Teenage Insight
Review: Rule of the bone is an incredible book on the insight of one teenager, good at heart but fallen into bad things. the plain simple fact that nobody reached out and tried to save him flashes the book into even more unreal reality. rule of the bone gives the life of one teenage boy in incredible detail. Banks takes a seemingly untouched subject and screams to the world the actual truth. i highly recomend this book to everybody. and i think even those teenage guys who hate to read would like this.

Summary: A hard and wild look at someone elses teenage years
Review: You might race though this book and find yourself hating it and loving it at the same time. Few things in life are as ruthless and as violent as a mistreated youth. Perhaps the fear that Gen Xer's create will strike too stongly at the hearts of some. Not for everyone, but if you're under 30, or pretending to be, you might just be able to handle this one.

Summary: Incredibly uplifting! Documents the resiliency of youth!
Review: The first book I have read in a long while, selecting "Rule of the Bone" in an idle moment while waiting for my daughter to find a book, confirmed my rather egocentric belief that my random selection of activity is often rewarded with a very meaningful experience. As a mental health professional with too many years experience dealing with disenfranchised, abused and forgotten youth, I must say I was reinspired with the resilience of the adolescent. As I agonize from day to day listening to stories of abuse and parental irresponsibility, I am encouraged by the fortitude of Chappie, the adolescent who is forced to deal with life on terms which should only be forced on adults. The constant mantra of his self selected Jamaican mentor, "Up to you, Bone", prompts the youth to develop his own sense of values. Making sense of the cruel world around him in terms that will assure his survival, Chappie epitomizes the survival instincts of youth. I was totally uplifted by the experience of reading about a teenager with all odds against him who is driven by the determination not to be devastated by, nor repeat the mistakes of his parents. I casually left the book out for my children to see, and both of them devoured it within a day. I only hope that the message is not lost to them, as THEY are the very ones who need it most!
