Summary: Brain Candy
Review: This novel was definitely neither intellectually nor literarily challenging. It was, however, good brain candy for a quick summer read. The characters were frustrating, but funny and real, and the funeral scene was so bizarre I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: Excellent! This is a well written, entertaining story about an African-American family coping with grief and secrets. Ms. Brown makes you feel like you know each character personally and it's filled with all the "stuff" that makes African-American families so unique, like arguing and frontin' each other out (ya'll know what I mean!!). This is an ideal book club read with discussion questions included at the end. Great job Ms. 'Ebony Satin'!! -ES

Summary: SO TRUE, SO TRUE!
Review: Boy! Did I enjoy this book!! I felt as if I knew these characters. The love and respect that the Naylor girls had for their father was so pure and full of adoration that it caused me to be saddened at the lack of respect for parents, elders, etc. in this day and age.

This book gave a good angle on how people show their true colors when death occurs. I hated to see so much anger and hatred at some points, but the story was very true to life.

Totally recommended!

Summary: Parry Brown Has Done It Again...But Better!
Review: Lawd, Have Mercy! Folks sure come from far and near ...as they all jockey to Sit on the Front Pew. Close and distant relatives, family and friends, all want to sit on the front pew when a loved one dies. The Naylor clan is no exception and at times more colorful than your average clan...but many of their antics ring close to home in Parry Brown's latest novel, Sittin' in the Front Pew (SITFP).

Edward Naylor was a solid African American male and respected pillar of his community. He was a devoted father and family man and single-handedly raised his daughters after his wife's untimely death decades ago. He represented the epitome of the Father of the Year to his four daughters, as well as their friends. When Edward Naylor dies unexpectedly his family is upset, shell-shocked and in denial as they hazily make his funeral arrangements. But the s8%# really hits the fan when the family discovers a mystery woman in Naylor's will! Who is this "hussy" who deserves a byline in the Naylor girls daddy's will?

Sitting In the Front Pew is a compelling and touching read. Brown surpassed my expectations with her latest novel...as she creatively crafted and delivered with wit an African American funeral(there are none others like it). From the prologue, I was glued to SITFP and eagerly pondered and asked..."What Else Can Happen Next?" The characters, to include the secondary characters (who can forget Roberta), were colorful, sassy, outrageous and yet very believable. The storyline twists and turns were shocking and surprising yet realistic. Brown took us to the top of the emotional Richter scale without losing control with SITFP. I laughed, I cried, I experienced feelings of love, disgust, and frustration, but in the end I was satisfied by a well-written and entertaining story. Parry Brown shows her readers that she is more than a one or two book phenomenon. SITFP proves she's here to stay and will continue to write about and portray African American males who are positive role models in spite of their shortcomings. SITFP is a must read novel and I highly recommend it to others.

Summary: Home Going Celebration
Review: Four sisters Glydna,Collette,Renee and Dawn making arrangements for their daddy, Edward Naylor's home going celebration. Let the drama begin and it does. They can't agree on anything. While going through their father's files, they discover a mystery lady. Sittin in the Front Pew will make you laugh out loud and cry. I couldn't put this book down. A story about the power of family love. A must read.
I am going to read The Shirt off His Back next.

Summary: Who will be sitting in the FRONT pew?
Review: I really enjoyed this story. It made me laugh and cry in one. The Naylor sisters are something else......Renee, Glynda, Dawn and Collette. Ms. Collette Bernice, Naylor-Cunnigham-Grisham-Naylor is too much in this book! The way she acted throughout this kept me laughing. When she showed up to her daddy's funeral wearing a bright orange miniskirt suit with six inch strap up heels my mouth flew open and all I could say was, "NO, SHE DIDN'T!"

The way these sisters acting planning their daddy's funeral will keep you in shock. They hardly ever agreed on anything and disagreed on just about everything from what color the flowers would be on the casket to what color suit he should be wearing.

Even though Aunt Ida Mae had a short part in this book I really liked her. I wish the author could have had her throughout the book.

Parry "EbonySatin" Brown did a wonderful job writing this story. I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. Just for the ending girl......you get five stars no doubt!

Summary: Honest
Review: This was the most honest depiction of how people fall apart when someone dies. People's true life characteristics are challenged by showing how they really are deep inside. People are sad and get down right ruthless when it comes to inheriting or receiving any money or material possessions. Everyone thinks they know what the person wanted or how things should be but they don't. Ms. Brown did not sugar coat anything, she just brought to light the real deal. Which is things get ugly before they get better.

Summary: i like to read
Review: i was very disappointed in this book. from the description of the father he was a wonderful man. how on earth did he get these daughters? they were grasping, insensitive, uncouth, inhospitable, and down right crude. they argued over money, who should sit where, who should be where and who should do what. for three women who had a generous, loving, caring father, those apples fell far from the tree. i must say i did't like a single one of them, and by the end of the book i was ready to slap them all.i have been involved in family funerals where people acted like some of this, but i certainly didn't want to read that in a novel. these women were AWFUL!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Must Read
Review: This book sheads light on how the closest family can fall apart when the family faces the death of a parent. If you have not gone through this, the book will teach you how not to act once you have to face it. Everyone will at one time or another. This book is a must read for those that have gone through this and for those who have not. It will also show that life is too short to always "sweat the small stuff". A real page turner.

Summary: Typical Story, But Good Anyway...
Review: How many times have you heard this story, a man with a "outside" child. It was no mystery to me when her name popped up. Although the story line was typical, the book was good and I recommend adding it to your library.
