Rating: Summary: A bit disappointing, but still funny. Review: Before I say anything else, let me say this: Don't get me wrong - I love Janet Evanovich's style and sense of humor, and I think she's fabulous. However, while she still provides many laugh-out-loud and snort/chuckle moments in _Seven-Up_, it lacks the brilliance of _One for the Money_ and others in the series. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - if we could magically give her Patricia Cornwell's keen ability to write a relatively complex and compelling crime/myster plot, Evanovich would be stunning. Sadly, I think Evanovich is redoing the same plot, over and over, and it's lost a small amount of its charm. Still, I love her writing style, and I'd continue reading the series, even if she doesn't inject anything new.To sum up a few key points, Stephanie's relationship with Morelli meanders about, as Ranger goes in for the kill. Grandma Mazur has typical Grandma Mazur-esque adventures, Lula provides support and comic relief, random people end up in Stephanie's apartment, she suffers through the standard misfortunes with cars, and a human heart makes the rounds and causes various kidnappings. Bob the dog has a few amusing cameos. She manages not to blow up a funeral home, though. Still, this is standard Plum fare. One thing Evanovich does really well is to invent very polite, considerate, and utterly human "bad guys," who end up winning over the audience, despite the fact that they might be trying to kill Stephanie, maybe. Evanovich has got a keen knack for wonderful characters, something that is rare and wonderful in the world. Perhaps _Hard Eight_ will see a return to the truly inspired writing that we all know she can produce, and love it when she does!
Rating: Summary: Still gets five stars from me! Review: Although this latest Plum novel didn't have the humor and strong plot as the other I still could not give it less than five stars. This book went fast and was very enjoyable. The end was a long waited surprise with Ranger! Stephanie calls Ranger for help and the heat is turned up on the relationship between Ranger and Stephanie. Joe and Stephanie and speaking of the idea on marriage. Of course Stephanie's family is all for the idea! Mooner, who was introduced in the last book plays a bigger role. Stephanie and Lula are riding a Harley this book. Even though the laughter was not there as in the others this book should not be missed. If you follow this series. If you are a new reader then start with the first book and work your way through. You will be glad and really enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: Once again, Janet Evanovich has hooked me on the first page. I have read all the Stephanie Plum adventures and have enjoyed them all. I can't help but laugh at Grandma Mazur and Stephanie's mom and dad. Stephanie has quite a mystery to solve and the adventures along the way will keep you turning the pages. If you are a fan, this book will not let you down. The plot has some twists to it and will definately hold your interest. I eagerly look forward to book #8.
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the net one! Review: I have read all of the Stephanie Plum books and not a single one has left me disappointed...only wanting to know when the next book was coming out.
Rating: Summary: New narrator ruins great series. Review: My wife and I are huge fans of the "Stephanie Plum" mystery series by Janet Evanovich. We own the unabridged recordings of all of these books. Prior to SEVEN-UP, the narrator was Recorded Books C.J. Critt. She WAS Stephanie! The new person is laughably bad. All her characters sound like Fred Flintstone with a mouth full of rocks. We consider Books 1 through 6 to be prized possesions, and only the strict litter laws of our state kept us from throwing this tripe out the window of our moving car. we will continue to buy the print versions of this wonderful series but we will hear Ms Critt's voice as we read them.
Rating: Summary: I love Stephanie Plum! Review: This book is the latest, greatest adventure of Stephanie Plum, the most lucky/unlucky bounty hunter ever! I love her family, the way everyone talks about everyone in her neighborhood and the way she just can't get ahead! The men in her life are so hot, too. I can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Fun and mystery. What a combo! Review: Stephanie is finally showing signs of competance as a bounty-hunter in New Jersey. It's not that she's perfect. Far from the humorous escapades as she hunts an old man who carries a gun. Grandma is back! This installment in Stephanie Plum series is a keeper. If it is new to you, start in the beginning with One For The Money. Also recommend, Sandra West Prowell's series, BY EVIL MEANS was the best, and recommend Tempesta's Damsel in the Rough.
Rating: Summary: The author of Unusual Destiny says, A Perfect Plum! Review: Everything about Ms. Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is delightfully entertaining. Her tongue-in-cheek depiction of life in Jersey is a treat. Its colorfully named residents come to life with personalities to match; DeChooch, MoonMan, Lulu, Bob the dog and the favorites we've come to love, Grandmother Mazur and Joe Morelli. Their comic actions, reactions and interactions never fail to make me laugh. In this installment, even Stephanie's contemplation of love in the afternoon set forth in the prologue made me giggle. Others have outlined this plot, so I'll skip that and simply recommend all seven books in this series as five star offerings. Congratulations to this accomplished author. Her inventions are delicious!
Rating: Summary: Evanovich gets back to basics - thankfully Review: Embarking on the seventh installment of the Stephanie Plum series I was concerned, based on some amazon.com reviews of it and my experience with the sixth installment (Hot Six). I did not want to read a half-baked mystery novel and endless episodes of Stephanie Plum wrecking her car. Thankfully and surprisingly, Seven Up is actually one of the better books in the series. In Seven Up the author decided not over-reach her skills by cooking up a contrived mystery, or have our bounty hunter babe (Stephanie Plum) tour greater Trenton for multiple bail-jumpers. Instead we have a rather basic yet interesting and understandable (!) mystery involving a missing geriatric (a rather perverted old man with a shakey gun), his evil relatives, and the "dumb and dumber" twosome (Dougie and Mooner) from earlier novels. And we are entertained by the introduction of Stephanie's "born again" lesbian sister and her "I think I'm a male horse" daughter. .... oh, and as with High Five we are treated with a very teasing cliffhanger ending! Bottom line: a very enjoyable installment of Stephanie Plum for her fans to enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Stephanie ages quickly... Review: I did not enjoy the audio tapes of this edition. Tanya Eby's voice was too harsh and a strong accent that really didn't work for Stephanie. She also destroyed Grandma's character. I thought Stephanie had suddenly jumped into her late thirties or forties with the voice that was used for the tapes.
