Rating: Summary: A MUST READ THRILLER Review: Patrick Kenzie only met Karen Nichols once but the impression he got of her was one of a happy, pretty, young woman with everything going for her. Six months later, the news of her sucide sends Patrick on a personal crusade to find out what drove the young woman to madness. Teaming up with partner Angela Gennaro, and his tough, crazy friend Bubba...He begins uncovering drugs, prostitution and horrible family secrets all contributed to Karen's suicide. The deeper he goes into her life he finds a madman, whose thrill is not killing people but making them WISH they were dead, was responsible for Karen's demise, and now the madman is set out to destroy Patrick. I will not go further into detail on the plot...All of the fun is discovering it as you go. The pacing is FAST, the dialogue RAZOR-SHARP, the characters FASCINATING and the end SHOCKING. If you have not discovered Dennis Lehane, do yourself a favor and read him, he is a master at creating Mystery/Suspense novels.
Rating: Summary: OHHHH NOOOO! I've read all the Lehane's now :( Review: Oh this was such a good read. I've read all the Patrick and Angie books now and they are absolutely fantastic. This book is filled with all the complex characters that I have come to love in Lehane's books. In addition his protagonists are so human. Our "good" guys are so full of fault and virtue. There is a thin line between good and evil that resides in all of us and our protagonists come dangerously close, but never fully cross the line. The plot is thickly layered and has many twists and surprises. Bubba has a love interest! :) I am sad that I have read all the Lehane's now. I have really enjoyed all of them. With the exception of Sacred, the series is top notch and the stories stay with you for days. I do recommend that you read the series in order. I simply cannot wait for Lehane's next book!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic find! Review: Always in search of a good book I gave Prayers for Rain a chance. Wise decision. I had to go back and read the first four. Lehane can be funny, Lehane can be serious, but best of all, Lehane can be deep. He asks questions that don't have simple answers, My only question now is: When's the next one going to be released?
Rating: Summary: Read The Whole Series! Review: Mr. Lehane has a tremendous PI series going, set in one of my favorite cities, Boston. I made sure that I read all five books in order, and have passed them to my wife, who loved them, and to other members of my family, with the same results. The author must have a mind for trivia, for who else would remember "The Boys of Chorus" from an old Warner Bros. cartoon? For weeks after reading that section of the book, the tune for that song was going around in my head! If you haven't yet made the acquaintance of Dennis Lehane, do so by all means. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: My Spring Break Treat -- Finished It In 36 Hours Review: This is my fifth Lehane. I was fortunate to read them in order. Every one is a compelling, witty, page-turner. Angie and Patrick are wonderful together; they're even wonderful when they're not together. Powerful plots and characters who develop from book to book make this whole series a treasure. This is the best writer in the genre...sorry John Sandford and James Lee Burke.
Rating: Summary: First class Review: Prayers for Rain was my first Dennis Lehane book and it won't be the last. I am surprised that Lehane has not received wider acclaim. If you enjoy pyschological thrillers and the ride on which they can take you then DON'T MISS THIS ONE!
Rating: Summary: What a Great Find Review: I never heard of this author until I read the review in the paper. I took a chance and bought it. Wow, I got lucky! This is the best book I've read since Thomas Perry's The Butcher Boy, 5 years ago. Lehane can write, RUN-DON'T WALK TO BUY THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: first time reading this author Review: What a great find, a very good read. The style, plot and characters were very entertaining. A worthy read.
Rating: Summary: Why is it nobody has heard of Dennis? Review: I picked up this book, because it was on sale..sorry but true. I can't remember when I have enjoyed a writer like Dennis Lahane, ( and I read a lot). The story is clever, the characters are witty, charming, real and lovable, especially BUBBA. If you haven't read Lahane....DO IT NOW! you won't be the least bit disapointed..except you can't find the earlier hard covers. Good Luck Dennis ....you have a FAN! If You think Coffey is witty in Demille's books, you ain't seen nothin yet...
Rating: Summary: Lehane=GREAT! Review: Each time time Lehane writes a new book it is better than the ones that came before it -- and keep in mind his first book, A Drink Before The War was VERY GOOD. Prayers For Rain is a book that you won't be able to put down once you start it. In typical Lehane fashion, the plot grabs your attention from page one and never lets up; and the main characters, Patrick and Angie, come across as so real you feel that you are one of their friends (or at least would like to be one). And let's not forget Bubba -- and I don't mean Clinton. Bubba is definitely one of my favorite bad/good guys in fiction, and is someone I'd want on my side if I was ever in major trouble. In Prayers For Rain Lehane provides insights into Bubba's character like never before. Don't miss this book!
