Summary: What a dumb book
Review: This is the worst book I have read in YEARS!!!!!!!!! I sure wish I could get my money back on this .... If you have not read this ... yet and I sure hope that you have not, do yourself a favor and save your money and time. This book is a joke.

Summary: Couldn't Put It Down
Review: I haven't read a book this good in a long time! Graduate school seemed to squelch my love of reading, but now I'm hooked again. I couldn't put this book down and read into the wee hours of the night. Finished it in only two days!
Very realistic and well-written.
I highly recommend it.

Summary: Good Read
Review: I enjoyed learning more about the Amish way of life through this book. I felt that all of the characters were believable and for the most part likeable.

I did have a little bit of a problem getting around the fact that no one but the mother noticed that Katie was pregnant And, I also question whether, upon waking, a young girl (even an innocent Amish girl) wouldn't have been astounded and curious about where her new infant had gone.

I was hoping for more in the court room and found the final settlement a bit trite. I'm too cynical to believe the justice system works this way.

All in all, this was a quick and interesting read. I will buy another Picoult book because I did enjoy the character development and the research that went into this novel.

Summary: You'll love it if you're curious about the Amish...
Review: "Plain Truth" was the perfect accompaniment to a recent shopping trip to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I grew up very near this large Amish settlement but knew very little about them. This book revealed to me a lot of interesting details about their lifestyle and allowed me to appreciate them as real people, not aliens in horse drawn buggies.

I thought "Plain Truth" was far better than Picoult's "Keeping Faith". As a novel it is quite engaging, though I am very sceptical about the working of the judicial system as revealed in the book. The supernatural stuff seemed extraneous.

You'll love it if you're curious about the Amish. If you are, I'd particularly recommend the book "In Their Own Words", a collection of articles from a magazine written by and for the Amish.

Summary: Loved it!
Review: This was the first book I read from jodi Picoult. I never even heard of her before but picked it up because I like law stories so much and had exhausted my other authors. I was amazed. This book was truly remarkable. I couldn't put it down. Since reading this book I have read The Pact and Keeping Faith and Jodi Picoult has yet to disappoint me.

Summary: Addictively Readable
Review: Jodi Picoult has created a well written and addictive book centering on the death of an infant in Amish country. The title of the book is a play on words involving what we see as the plain truth and what the Amish (Plain) people see as the truth. A fascinating look into the life of the Amish people, it is also a finely tuned psychological drama and a mystery too. We are drawn into the life of Katie, the young girl accused of murdering her newborn child, and Ellie, the big city lawyer who chooses to defend her. I stayed up all night to read the last third of the book, as I could not put it down. This is my second book by Ms. Picoult, and I am looking forward to making my way through all her novels.

Summary: A very good book!
Review: This is my second book by Ms. Picoult, the first being Salem Falls. I liked this one better. It grabs your attention immediately and keeps it there through the duration. It takes place in Amish Country, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As it opens, young unmarried Katy makes her way during the night to the family's barn on their dairy farm to give birth. It is a traumatic event for her, as she has not accepted the pregnancy and is praying to God to deliver her from this unfortunate event. She falls asleep right after the delivery and when she awakens the child is gone and she thinks God answered her prayers and goes back to bed. When the child is found dead, Katy is arrested for its murder and here is where the story really begins. It takes you back through previous events and introduces the reader to all the characters, beginning with Katy's Amish family. I personally did not know much about the Amish but have a new respect for them after reading this. All of the characters were believable and I found the attorney who defended her (a distant female cousin) enjoyable and admirable. I highly recommend this book, and will read more by Jodi.

Summary: A Reminder Of What Wonders Books Can Be
Review: Plain Truth has become one of my favorite books. It clicked for me like Cold Sassy Tree and a few others. The right book at the right time is a wonder. I've always been intrigued by the Amish, and moral dilemmas are another draw for me. These elements combined with wonderful characters, a clash of cultures, perfect pacing, drama, and suspense produced for me a book that became totally absorbing. The plot and characters grabbed me on the first page, haunted my waking hours, and haven't released me yet. My heart still aches for Katie. Images of the ethereal skater glide through my thoughts. I marvel at what love can do in lives. This is one of those books that will find a permanent place on my nightstand, a comfort and reminder of what books can do and be.

Summary: Great book
Review: This was as great book. I would recommend this book to those who like Jodi Picoult books. The trial was a little drawn out, but it was a great book, I couldn't put it down!

Summary: A Provocative Book
Review: In this story, the body of a newly born infant is discovered in the barn of an Amish family in Pennsylvania, and a police investigation takes place. No witnesses come forth with information, and the daughter of the family becomes a suspect. She denies any knowledge of the situation.

This is the story of Katie Fisher an 18 year old Amish girl who's charged with the murder of her baby. Ellie Hathaway is the Philadelphia attorney who takes on the high-profile murder case, but she receives very little assistance from Katie or her family in helping with the young woman's defense.

This well written and fascinating story takes the reader into the "plain" world of Amish farm life.
