Summary: Progressively weakening North Fork who-done-it
Review: This murder mystery starts out as incandescently as "The Hot Zone" but unfortunately fizzles out to become a sophmoric Hardy Boys ending. The character portrayal of the obnoxious detective Corey was brilliant, as was De Mille's description of the North Fork of Long Island. The plot however, becomes a predictable confrontation between the protagonist and the villain, who is identified long before the end of the novel. Somewhat disappointing

Summary: A funny page turner that you won't want to put down.
Review: I read this in 3 days - I didn't want to put it down! I highly recommend it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Up and Down, but overall fun
Review: I was captivated by the witty dialogue (give me a break if you think it isn't really what we men think) and most of the descriptive passages. Unfortunately, once we found out the killer (a few pages too soon, I think), the book became a little formulatic. When did the killer become a crazed lunatic? Why a boat chase scene? I found it difficult to follow those passages on the high seas. By then, I knew how it would end anyway.

Nonetheless, a great ride . . . I immediately went to buy Gold Coast.

Summary: Just happened to pick up at the local library!
Review: This book was a great find! One of my fav writers recommended it, so I deceided to give it a try...it was so worth it!!! I am moving on to the Gold Coast, but don't miss Plum Island!!! It was a well written story, with a great main character!

Summary: i finished it, but...
Review: High marks for verisimilitude but according to my sources on the North Shore, there are some implausibiliites concerning the sailing scenes to and from Plum Island itself. An old salt who has often sailed those waters says it simply cannot be done due to the tide flows. I mustsay it as a lot of characters -- but is that enough? It had lots of chases -- boats not cars, but who's counting? I wouldnt drive out of my way to buy this book, but I don't ever buy books anyway. Go to the Library for this one -- don't pay money for it. Fun, easy read.

Summary: Funny, fast paced, soap opera, treasure island tale.
Review: This book is not just for men! Although, you have to find crude, sex crazed male behavior funny. The book started out fast paced but bored me to tears for 200 pages till the climax at the end. General's daughter and The charm school were 5 star books, this is a 3.5 starer. It is more like an Law & Order episode than a Columbo episode. You know who the killer is far before the end. Overall a good book, just don't expect it to be a 'charm school'.

Summary: Just as I started to drop off to sleep, I started laughing.
Review: This was my first Demille book. It was seemed to be a little drawn out at first; however, that impression could have been due to the fact that I read it late at night. Entertaining without heaviness--a good, unexpected bedtime laugh. The characters were very entertainig. The only trouble was morning fatigue when the alarm sounded.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A real page-turner, suspensful ending
Review: I've read and liked 5 of Demille's novels. The hero here is a thorough jerk, but loveable anyway. The last 1/3 is hard to put down. Lots of action and plot twists. I'm gonna order Spencerville now.

Summary: One of the greatest character developments ever
Review: I have read all of Nelson Demille's wonderfully told novels, and could say that not only was this one of his more interesting stories, it was the best developed character he has ever written. The genius behind John Corey is in the reader's opinion of him. So many readers are disgusted by his apparent disregard for social norms, while others appreciate that he has every quality that most every man fantasizes about. He is a powerful individual weakened physically but his mind never missed a beat after being forced to convalesce. This book is not only a great read but an inspiration for men who may have some insecurity and fear about being themselves in front of woman they are attracted to.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: loved the character development of Detective Corey
Review: Being a first time reader, I am now thoroughly hooked on DeMille's writing style. His portrayal of Detective Corey is wonderfully fresh and quite the opposite of what we are typcially given by authors. The story was great, but this character was the story! I can't wait to read other books by DeMille.
