Summary: Quite smashing!
Review: I had read the The Generals Daughter several years ago and thought it was ok so I decided to take a look at this book which a relative of mine had finished and recommended. I was completely unprepared for an incredible read. Sure, its a bit immature but thats what makes it light, funny, fast moving and entertaining. From start to finish it held my attention. Mr. De Mille is an accomplished writer with a wonderful talent. I have started now, to read Spencerville and Im sure to read others.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Didn't want it to end!
Review: Plum Island's protagonist male's humor was delightful. The author's sense of place and site description grounded the book in a reality that enfolded me. I also enjoyed the complex and timely plot. -Marla

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Typical Demille but with more humor.
Review: Demille and James Lee Burke are similar in that they write about men that are strong and politically fearless. In Plum Island, up to a point, Demille injects some fabulous homour that kept my attention and in some cases, had tears rolling town my cheek. As far as a dective novel goes this one is first rate.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of Demille's best
Review: Finally it's good to have a Demille mystery/adventure with a sense of humor. I found myself laughing at his one-liners and even writing them down.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: My first Demille book - I'll read the rest
Review: I really enjoyed this book - interesting plot although a bit slow, some very funny moments like "the trouble with doing nothing is you never know when you have finished!" I will certainly give his other books a try - just bought Gold Coast.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not his best.
Review: I was disappointed. I was expecting a great read like the "Gold Coast". The story showed promise in the beginning. Unfortunately, the story took an unbelievable turn into pure fantasy. Toward the end of the exhausting story, Mr. Demille throws in a hurricane. Every trick in the book was tried, just doesn't work with "Plum Island"

Summary: DeMille is the Best
Review: Mr. DeMille has great plot ideas, but what I love best about his books are the characters. You really get to know his people. My favorites: Gold Coast and Charm School, were better than this one, I think, but this story is interesting, and the protaganist is thoroughly enjoyable. All of deMille's characters are so witty! The biological stuff was very creepy, and interesting. Some of the other reviewers didn't like this one - I can't understand their problem. He's a wonderful writer. Read this book. It's a mystery, it's scary, it's funny; it's even a little bit sexy. Then be sure to read The Gold Coast, The Charm School and The General's Daughter.
Mr. DeMille, hurry up with your next work. Your number one fan is waiting!! I am such a fan that I even buy the hardback editions.

Summary: I don't get it.
Review: My husband laughed out loud while reading this book. My friends recommended it. I found it a complete waste of time. I stuck with thinking it would get better but it didn't. I'm told I should give some of his earlier books a try. No thanks.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Exciting, excellent, everything you would expect
Review: This is my second DeMille book. First one was General's Daughter and loved it. Plum Island was so exciting. Loved character of John Corey. I'm down with the flu, but between coughs, reading J. Corey, just lifted my spirits. His jokes cracked me up. I was always waiting for the next one. And now, the next book, I will read is The Gold Coast and then on for the rest of them. Thank you Mr. DeMille, let's go on for the next take.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Entertaining, not great
Review: I was somewhat disappointed in this novel, because of the previous high-calibre works by Mr. DeMille. It certainly is not his best book, but the main character IS likeable and the writing is tight. Its biggest flaw seems to be a forced plot.
