Rating: Summary: One of Sanford's Best Review: Finally a "Prey" I can connect with and get my mind around. Sanford keeps you guessing right up to the end. Just when you think you have it solved, he throws this incredile curve ball at you. A well-rounded way of bringing past characters into this novel. It makes you want to go back and re-read other "Prey's" just so you can stay in the moment. Well done Mr. Sanford, looking forward to the next "Prey".
Rating: Summary: finally, revenge! Review: FInally a boook that let the bad guys get some revenge! Although I was rooting for lucas and the good guys I thought the story line was excellent. Most books the bad guys alwaya get caught before they have a chance to kill anyone and in this one sandford let LaChaise and his friends kill a couple of people before they got caught. I really enjoyed this book .
Rating: Summary: The most powerful and suspense-filled Prey book of all. Review: From the robbery at the beginning to Weather's rescue at the end this book was gripping-I read it in just over 8 hours with time out for a nite's sleep. I appreciated Sanford bringing in the clues: the teardrops; the people from past preys: the detectives, Sarah and mom, etc. I hope Sanford will take some time with the next novel and do it as well as this one.
Rating: Summary: Good thriller, moves along at a fast pace, terribly biased Review: I am a woman who recently read this thriller and while I enjoyed it, I was amazed that such a distinguished writer would so radically typecast his criminal characters... they were all hunters, or went to gun shows, or were friendly with gun dealers and I was terribly offended by this characterization. Shame on your Mr. Sandford. Criminals are as diverse as stars in the galaxy and come from all backgrounds.
Rating: Summary: Great twists, suspense, drama Review: I gobbled this "Prey" Book as I have all since "The Rules of Prey." This book has all the great, intense drama and suspense as they all have. The LaChaise's were perhaps not the most evil villians that Sanford has come up with but they definitely grab you by gut. Lucas Davenport continues to interest. Will his relationship with Weather survive? Is he really just the toughest no-nonsense, blow-em-away cop around? I suspect he teeters on the edge of a personal decision. May he forever be the true hard a--!
Rating: Summary: No disappointment with any of Sanford's books Review: I have read all of John Sanford's books in order and have enjoyed each and every one of them. Once you read one you should be hooked. I look forward to the next book as much as I look forward to finishing the current one. Reading Sanford's books in order (Prey series) you watch Det. Davenport evolve. It is nice to read and follow his life. No disappointment here
Rating: Summary: This book had me turning from page to page, never letting go Review: I have read all of Mr. Stanfords books, looking forward to Davenports next move. Mr. Stanford keeps you on edge and when you least expect it, Davenport wins again. This is an excellent book series. I read that Sudden Prey was going to be aired as a movie. I hope Mr. Stanford never lets Davenport die, espeically the Nun. The team work between the detectives should be made into a TV series. Keep them coming Mr. Stanford. Davenport is just too cool to be written off and too cool to let anyone/anything stop him.
Rating: Summary: I absolutely recommend it! Review: I have read many "thrillers" of the cops-and-robbers type before, but this is the best I have read. Sandford keeps your pulse racing and you actually feel let down that the thrill ended so soon. I will read his next book, for certain
Rating: Summary: Too many implausible situations Review: I like action books that contain at least plausible scenarios. This book doesn't. You would have to believe in a whole series of highly unlikely events to enjoy this book. From incompetent cops to the luckiest criminals of all time. The story line just didn't work.
Rating: Summary: I wasn't a "detective" book reader -- until I met Sandford Review: I love great literature, and once-upon-a-time, I tried to focus on the National Book Award winners, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and other international authors who could tell a good story in an interesting way.
For variety, I read the earlier Stephen King books, and some "hard" science fiction, like Bob Forward.
In a funk, and bored with several wonderful books I was plodding through, I heard an advertisement for "Mind Prey" (the previous "Lucas Davenport" novel) by 'John Sandford.' In a moment of -- for me -- consumer frenzy, I saw it at a local drugstore and bought it. Wow!
I researched the author, and began to get his "Prey" books and read them from first (Rules of Prey) to last (Sudden Prey). 'Sandford' really knows how to tell a story; his characters are interesting and believable, and while there's plenty of "blood and guts," its all in the context of solid, you-are-there plotting.
Sudden Prey, as usual, made me stop in the middle of a chapter, and say aloud, "no, no: that can't happen!" Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong, and I give all the credit in the world to 'John Sandford' for getting me involved enough to care about the characters he creates.
And, I still enjoy the National Book Award-type "good" literature I once thought was the only thing "intelligent" people should read. I'll read everything this guy puts out.
If Sudden Prey is your first Sandford book, you'll go back and read the rest -- and I recommend them all.
