Rating: Summary: Very Good!!! Review: This is classic John Sandford material. I utterly enjoyed Sudden Prey! JS is another of the masters of the fast-paced crime novels. I love Lucas' character. He is such a 'bad dude!!' I had actually read Secret Prey before this one, so I already kind of knew the ending, and what happened with Weather, but it was still a great read!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Awesome! Review: This is definitely the best book in the Prey series! Simply fantastic -- a well crafted, well executed thriller. I wish all the Prey books were as good as this one -- this really is the best of them all.
Rating: Summary: This is my first Prey novel .... Review: This is my first Prey novel and after I was done I wanted to give it a 50/50 reply, but on second thought I think it was a fascinating read. The author introduced several characters of dept with ease, kept a quick pace of throughout the book made a book that was very plausible. In many cases, write create situations to make parts of the story feasible, but this was not the case. Sudden Prey is a chain of events that could happen any day to any of use. Collateral damage is easily seen here. The characters, nearly all, don't have tunnel vision throughout the plot as well. There are family challenges as well as cause and effect thoughts that make what the character says, all the more normal. I give it a 4 of 5.
Rating: Summary: One of his best!! Review: This is one of my favourites in the Prey series. Two females are shot in a bank robery, and the husband of one of them escapes from prison. Now he wants to get his revenge, but not by taking it out directly on the police officers. He wants them to suffer as he is, and wanting nothing by revenge, he's going after their families... Sandford is a master of writing about different motives for the killings in all his thrillers. Previously I've read about someone killing because (s)he feels (s)he have to do it, another time I read about a much more dangerous motivation, the profit. In this book, Sudden Prey, the main character, Lucas Davenport, is facing the most simple and purest motivation, which is revenge. But can his killer-instinct, fast thinking and intelligence help him to solve this case? Sandford has the ability of making you so curious about what will happen, that you simply can't put the book away. You have to finish it right away. And if you enjoy the Prey series, this book is a must. Certainly one his best. A great book also recommended to anyone who loves to read, and those who like thillers.
Rating: Summary: Perfect airline read. Review: This is the first "Prey" book I have read and after reading this book I am going to pick up the other John Sandford books. Having lived in Minneapolis for four years I found this particular book to be a very exciting read. (But you don't have to be from Minnesota to enjoy the book.) Sandford's protagonist is a very interesting character of which you will want to read more of his adventures
Rating: Summary: Very exciting Review: This was a great book which kept my interest throughout. I will read other books by this autho
Rating: Summary: Very twisted Review: This was my fourth Sandford novel and I have tried to give him a chance. In the first two, I found Lucas to be appalingly sexist and disliked him immensely. After reading this one and "Winter Prey," I have decided I will spend no more time reading Sandford. Stephen King is a pussycat compared to this guy. I just find these novels to be increasingly twisted and disturbed. I suppose there are people out there like these folks but in this case I would have to say ignorance is bliss on my part. It disturbs me that someone would think as Lucas does and that any women would put up with him. Time better spent elsewhere....
Rating: Summary: Sparked my Sanford book crave. READ IT!!!!!!!! Review: This was the first book i read by sanford, and i have since read two others, and plan to read all of the Prey series books. It is full of action, suspense and thrills, and shows you that police work is not as easy as we think. His charachters, especially Lt. Davenport are well rounded, not too perfect and not totally unbeleivable. I read it in two big gulps (days) and had to force myself to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Gets Better As it Moves Along Review: This was the first Sanford book I've read, and it won't be the last. It will never win my "Book of the Year" award, but it was a better than average, entertaining read.
My only complaint is that early on, there are too many characters introduced too quickly, and it easily confused as to who is who. But as it moved on, and the story spread out, that problem diminished. It's not the most original novel, but that's not what Sanford's shooting for here. He's shooting for In-Your-Face, Fast Paced supsense - and he delivers!
Anybody who is a fan of TV shows like "NYPD Blue" or "Murder One" will appreciate this book. The fast paced, back and forth action takes on a similar pattern to these shows. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Keep A Leash on Those Convicts Review: Two bank robbers are taken out in a gunfight by the Minneapolis Police Department. A relative of theirs who is allowed to attend the funeral while on leave from prison escapes. His intention is pure revenge against the police officers responsible for the killings. All of the cops involved and their families seem to be targets. Deputy Chief of the Minneapolis Police Department, Lucas Davenport, leads the investigation. The convict seeking revenge has really done his homework. He knows who was involved in the bank killings and who their family members are. This is no easy case for the Police. An exciting action packed story set in the Twin Cities that really kept me reading to the end. Sandford is a truly talented writer.
