Rating: Summary: A constant connection to 9/11 Review: Her book is well written and a poignant reminder of our nations (and her personal) tragedy. I really enjoyed that her faith was such a strong aspect of her relationship with her husband. This is a story that we can all relate to in some aspect. My heart goes out to her and her family. This book shows how strong she is and how strong she is in her walk with God.
Rating: Summary: Devoured in One Sitting Review: I am always suspicious of reviews which state the book was read in a single sitting-especially a book of nearly 300 pages. And yet, as the proverbial testimonial goes, I found myself starting at 10 PM and reading the final paragraph at 4:59 AM. Yes, Lisa Beamer shares a story so compelling, so utterly unique and important to our country and citizens at this critical juncture in history I could not, indeed, put the darn thing down. I will pay for this in the morning, but I reaped the fruits of Mrs. Beamer's inspiring testimony tonight. Anyone not moved by this biographical tale of an ordinary American hero thrust into an extraordinary situation must be made of stone.
Rating: Summary: courageous woman of faith Review: I appreciate the fact that Mrs. Beamer has established a foundation in her husband's name to benefit the children of 9-11, and that the proceeds of this book will be used there. It was one of the most uplifting and faith-strengthening books I have ever read, and hope that its contents will inspire many and will be cherished by the children of Todd and Lisa. It is a shining testimony to the power of the One to turn to when life is at its worst.
Rating: Summary: This book moved my soul Review: Let's Roll is one of the best nonfiction books that I've ever read. Lisa Beamer pours out her wounded heart to let us catch a glimpse of the American hero her children called "Dad". She is a symbol of grace and hope in world full of fear and doubt. "Uncle Sam" (who wrote a previous review) needs to understand that she gave a bulk of the money that she received for writing this book to a foundation that helps children cope with the loss of their parents - shame on you, "Uncle Sam!" What have you done for thousands of hurting children lately?
Rating: Summary: A story of faith Review: First off, I would like to suggest that each person read this book before critiquing it. Like Queen Esther from the Old Testament of the Bible, Lisa Beemer has been a comfort in a time of crisis. Her story is filled with multiple examples of how God shaped her life for the whirlwhind that occurred on September 11th. Lisa approaches the book with a humble spirit, but with a sense of joy that God has provided even in a time of crisis. This book was not written to "capitalize from tradegy" but was written to help others see how God works in the most unique ways. Lisa displayed her steadfast faith in God even in her weakest hour. After reading this book, I felt that Lisa was trying to reach out to those who have experienced the same losses. This book is a wonderful read, kept me entertained throughout, and should be read with a box of kleenex!
Rating: Summary: Every-day hero's tales Review: This book was almost impossible to put down. I felt every emotion that Lisa did in the book. Another great book about an average American hero.
Rating: Summary: A tale of grief and hope. Review: Most inspirational books are written by people who've had a small, private grief they've had to get over. Lisa Beamer, wife to Todd Beamer, lived her grief out nationally and internationally. Now raising her two children without her husband, Beamer tells the story of their relationship, marriage, shared faith in God and her subsequent loss. While much is said about Todd Beamer's life, the story ultimately here is Lisa's, and her reflections on the meaning and purpose of her husband's death are honest, if not always well explained.
Rating: Summary: One Widow's Grief and Courage Review: I presume to suggest that this book be read in combination with Jere Longman's Among the Heroes. Frankly, I am unable to appreciate the full nature and extent of Lisa Beamer's grief, following the death of her husband and others aboard United flight 93. As she explains in this book, her primary challenge since then has been to overcome that grief while somehow providing for the needs of their three children. (Daughter Morgan was born in January, only a few months after United flight 93 crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.) Although she has written a bestseller, and continues to attract media attention, Lisa Beamer remains focused on her children and the work of the Todd M. Beamer Foundation whose mission is to assist other children who have also lost a parent. The title of her book refers to her late husband's last recorded remarks just before he and others aboard the plane attempted to overcome the terrorists who had skyjacked it. ("Are you guys ready? Let's roll!") They knew what had already happened on September 11th whereas those aboard the other three flights did not. Huddled to the rear of their plane, several were able to call loved ones and then recited the Lord's Prayer before rushing the forward area. Those who read this book expecting a detailed account of those final moments will be disappointed. (That is why I highly recommend Longman's book.) What Lisa Beamer shares in this book is her abiding religious faith, probably without which she could not cope with the loss of her beloved husband. She is also determined to help others to understand who her late husband was and why his heroism is "so Todd." She suggests that he was "more than a half hour of time on September 11." Of course, the same can be said of everyone else aboard that flight as well as of those aboard the other three flights and of everyone else who perished at the World Trade Center and at the Pentagon. It has been less than a year since the multiple of tragedies occurred and it may be several decades before we will be able to fully grasp the nature and extent of heroism both in the air and on the ground throughout that tragic day...and during the weeks which followed. Lisa Beamer has written an inspirational account of her own experiences. Although apparently there have been indications at least some resentment of her celebrity, with which she seems to be uncomfortable, she observes that "I haven't gotten that sense on my interactions with the other families. I do my best to say what happened on that plane was teamwork, that there are a lot of untold stories and other heroes" aboard United flight 93. Perhaps in time, we will learn more about them. Perhaps those "untold stories" will be added to Todd Beamer's. My final comment is that, now more than ever before, we need to re-define heroism so as to include otherwise "ordinary" people who, when faced with a life-threatening crisis, respond with extraordinary courage. May our beloved nation always have Todd Beamers to accept that challenge...and Lisa Beamers to help us to appreciate them.
Rating: Summary: Lets Roll! Review: I have to say that Lisa Beamer represented herself and her husband well, noone could have done so any better than herself. I would recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Let's Roll! Review: Let's Roll!
The book titled "Let's Roll" written by Lisa Beamer is a magnificent book that will keep your interest throughout the entire novel. Lisa does a wonderful job in retelling the story of the horrible attacks of September 11th, and the many hardships that she continues to face after the tragedy. Lisa not only talks about the loss of her husband aboard Flight 93, but about what really happened aboard that flight on September 11th. She also talks about their marriage before and after the attacks. Even though she is dealing with the pain encountered when loosing a loved one, she never looses hope, and her strength inspires many. She was the wife of a very courageous man who America considers today a hero. Lisa Beamer, wife of Todd Beamer and mother of three, had never thought her life would be what it is today. Todd and Lisa had the ideal marriage; they seemed so perfect in each other's eyes. They made wonderful parents together. At the time, they had two children and one on the way, which they both were very excited about. They were both wonderful people who's faith in God brought them far in life. Todd was a businessman who worked for a company called Oracle. He was always in the air attending many business meetings. He was scheduled to attend a meeting in San Francisco on September 11th. He was scheduled to fly out that morning aboard Flight 93 and land in San Francisco, however the outcome wasn't as planned. Lisa tells about the phone call Todd made to an operator informing her about what was happening aboard the flight and assuring telling her about the attack he and other passengers planned to make on the terrorist. He knew he wasn't going to make it out alive but that saving other lives meant the most. The rushing of the terrorist by himself and other passengers followed his last words of "Let's Roll". These words will never be forgotten! Todd and the other passengers acted out of courage and saved many Americans lives today. The terrorist intended on flying the plane into our nations capitol, instead the attack planned by our heroic passengers caused the plane to crash into an open field in Pennsylvania. Lisa Beamer is coping with the everyday responsibilities of now a single mother. She uses her trust in God to get her through the shortcomings of life and realizing that she can get through this. Some of her most difficult times following the death of Todd was giving birth to their third child alone, and telling her children that daddy is gone. She truly feels that God gave her strength in even her most difficult situations, and gave her the words to say to explain daddy's death to their children. She continues to have hope in life and her strength will get her far. This book allowed me to discover what really happened aboard Flight 93 on September 11th. I also have a different outlook on life now knowing that our lives can change forever in a split second. I have a large amount of respect for the heroes aboard that flight. I also have a lot of respect for Lisa Beamer. She is handling her loss very well. Her strength and hope will always inspire me!
