Rating: Summary: An ordinary person you become to know and care for Review: I'm shocked by many bitter reviews toward the money making machinary Lisa Beamer's book is involved in. I am not a Church goer, not a hero fan, and I do not have time to watch Lisa Beamer on TV numerous times. I saw her on evening news twice, and was moved deeply by how much she held back and how much she brought forth. No one could be ready to play her part in the tragety and the madness afterwards. We saw other victims cry or laugh in front of cameras. Lisa is as human as the others, but in her own way, as another reviwer put it, she is Jackie Kennedy in the tragic wake of Sept. 11. You could not help but want to know more about her. So here is the book. It is up to you to read it or not. I read it from cover to cover. Ken Abraham helped expressing Lisa as she is, an ordinary person, a modest person, a person who can not be made in one day on Sept. 11, a person who is surrounded by love and gives love back. If she is created by God, the world would be better off with more poeple like Lisa, whatever their religones are. On a side note, I do hope the money making machinary would give Lisa a break from her book tour and gives her children their Mom back.
Rating: Summary: More than a hero, more than a casualty of September 11... Review: Todd Beamer was more than just a voice heard 'round the world from United Flight 93. But you will never understand this unless you read "Let's Roll". If you appreciate friendship, especially lifelong friendships, if you understand goodness and kindness and love of family, and if you admire people who have the courage to do what is right, regardless of the outcome, then you owe it to yourself to read this book. I originally bought the book out of "obligation". I felt like all I knew about Todd Beamer was those famous words and that his wife and family were suffering what all those other families were suffering, after being "left behind". But this books is SO MUCH MORE. Do yourself a favor and buy it, borrow it, but please don't steal it! It is the best investment you will ever make and who knows, maybe it will even change a heart or two. I don't think of it as a book about Lisa Beamer and her loss. Rather, I see it as a story of an American loss, loss of someone who had already made a huge difference in the lives of so many and could have achieved so much more, given the time. But most of all, I grew to love the man and his family and his friends and mourn their loss, nearly a year later, in ways that I would have never known, had I not been priviledged to stumble upon this book on the way to buy a birthday card.
Rating: Summary: We at AmericanFlags.com loved this book! Review: Lisa Beamer has painted a picture of courage and without asking for much in return has opened up her life and her heart for all to see. The book is honest, thoughtful and inspiring. It teaches us alot about life, death and everything in between. Lisa Beamer has become one of the well-known faces representing thousands who lost their loved ones on 9/11. Buy this book, read it, them pass it along to someone you care about!
Rating: Summary: Look at me, I'm media girl Review: I can't get enough of the lights camera and action. I'm the only one that counts, me me me. I'm going to sue to get the copyright to let's roll, time out, and merry christmas. enough of this woman already.
Rating: Summary: NOT my bible thumping cup of tea... Review: This book was not at all what it was marketed as, nor was it what I expected. In my opinion, the frequent references to God, numerous bible passages, and the author's clear assumption that GOD is the only way to achieve hope distracted from what would otherwise be a heart breaking story of hope, leaving the reader to take what they may from her experiences and her husband's legacy . As a reader who admires Mrs. Beamer I was anxious to read this book, but quickly found its religious overtones to be alienating and at times, even preachy. Hers is a truly remarkable story and I admire her strength and composure in telling it and I am grateful that her faith has seen her and her family through the unimaginable. I had hoped that the "moral" of the book would be more along the lines of accept the path ahead of you rather than accept GOD and only GOD.
Rating: Summary: This is one brave woman Review: I don't know how anyone could write some of the things I have read here. I just read a few chapters of this book at work- I work in a library. I can't believe the courage and strength this woman has. She probably knew that in this hate-filled world there would be people that would insult and make fun of her, but she told her husband's story anyway. She is not whining or begging for your sympathy, she just tells the story in a clear, straightforward style that one has to admire. I hope she makes as much money as she can- she deserves it.
Rating: Summary: Heroes Review: Lisa Beamer's husband was a hero. So were the men who helped him overpower the hijackers on their plane. But not every passenger on the plane was a hero. Not every worker in the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon were heroes. You're not a hero simply because you die unexpectedly. Let's not get carried away. Because the subject of this book is heroism as exemplified by a hero, it's worth reading, even if Beamer isn't a writer (or a hero herself, even though the book's profits go toward charity -- that's not heroism, because it takes no bravery to do the right thing financially when you're not hurting financially). But let's stop all this nonsense about confusing victims with heroes.
Rating: Summary: I admire her Courage Review: I first of all want to address those who MUST find something to berate this woman about. It is awful, but true, that there is just no pleasing some people. I can only imagine that the same folks who speculate as to her motives for writing the book (for capital gain or fame, blah, blah, blah...) are also the same ones who would likely criticize her for not writing about his heroism. As for the comment made by a previous reviewer about putting herself on the cover, SHE WROTE THE BOOK! Leave her alone. Those who don't like the book, or are offended by her guts to let everyone know how the Lord has strengthened her life, should abstain from reading it. I used to think that everyone would be able to appreciate true goodness, but some are just too cynical. I am so proud of Lisa Beamer for writing about her true faith. She could have taken the PC route and glossed right on over it by referring to "fate" and "hope for the good", but she was not ashamed of her relationship with God and proclaimed it proudly. Also, it is obvious to anyone with any sense at all, that writing about a tragedy proves to be enormously helpful in the healing process. Would we criticize all of the people who have likely been keeping a private journal of their grief post 9/11? No way. So why should anyone criticize someone for making her family's story available for others to share? I applaud Lisa Beamer for her courage and dignity as she has not only had to continue her life with her children and without her husband, but also as she juggles that daily life with uninvited celebrity.
Rating: Summary: What an Inspiration! Review: This book inspired me to have a closer relationship with God, cherish my family - especially my husband - and become a better person. What an amazing woman and the epitomy of what a Christ-like woman should be! The whole book just filled me with inspiration. Shame on these few reviewers who claim she was trying to cash in. She didn't receive a cent from this book - it went to her charitable foundation for parentless kids named for her husband. Just goes to show that some people will find the bad no matter what. But, the ones with Christ in the center of their lives, find the GOOD! Thank You, Lisa, for being an inpiration and a true servant of Christ.
Rating: Summary: Very Inspirational Review: First of all, this is an excellent book, easy to read. I zipped through the book the first day I got it, unable to put it down. I walked away with a greater understanding of the kind of person that Todd Beamer was. He was a great person, faithful to God, his wife and his children. He was a humble person and someone who really listened to what others had to say, and cared. After 9/11, Lisa Beamer had to rely on her own faith in God to stay intact for her children's sake. It was interesting (and very very sad)to get the inside view of what that day was like for her. I was someone who was at home sitting on the couch glued to the tv watching in horror. Here was someone who was living it. It started out like any other day for the Beamer family. I was impressed with her poise during this tragedy, a poise that God gave her to get through it. I am a Christian woman, I have a husband and two little boys, this was an inspiring book. It helped me walk away with some sort of peace to the whole horrible 9/11 day. God got the honor and glory for Todd Beamer's life and death, and I think that is key. I admire this woman very much for the way she is handling the tragedy and keeping her husband's memory alive in a useful way, and for the way she lives her everyday life, using God to lean on. Excellent book!
