Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time Review: I'm sorry I wasted my time reading this book. Instead of a thoughtful review of Clinton's decisions and the impact of those decisions, its another bald faced attempt to blame Clinton regardless of what the facts actually show. Read this book if you hate Clinton and are looking for fuel for the fires of your hate. Avoid this book if you are capable of independent, critical, and non-partisan thought.
Rating: Summary: While Bin Laden Plotted, Clinton Had His Pants Down (Yuck!) Review: The author dispassionately chronicles the gravest neglect of duty by any president in American history. When al Qaeda homicide mombers in 1998 nearly sank the USS Cole and killed 19 of its sailors, Indefensible Secretary William Cohen advised the Great Stainmaker that the terrorism merited no response whatsoever. Bin Laden leapt on Clinton's softness. As documented extensively by the author, Clinton's inaction emboldened bin Laden to set his sights higher. You won't hear from mainstream news organizations about the Great Stainmaker's malfeasance having furthered Islamist terrorism, because doing so would tear to tatters the ideology upon which their bias is predicated. But if, like the rest of the enlightened world, you crave answers to 9/11 and have had quite enough of what no less a liberal luminary than Walter Cronkite concedes in his inaugural King Features Syndicate column (August 2003) is an overwhelmingly leftwing news media, then run -- don't walk -- to purchase Richard Miniter's thoroughly annotated exposŽ.
Rating: Summary: my favorite kind of book, page-turning nonfiction Review: A friend recommended this book to me. I don't really care about politics but my favorite books are gripping nonfiction books. I loved "Seabiscuit," even though I don't really care about horse racing, and "Into Thin Air" by Krakauer, even though I don't really care about mountain climbing. I would highly recommend this book to other people who just want a great read that's based on real events. Although I don't really follow politics, I didn't find the tone of the book to be charged or political. Miniter is tough on pointing out Clinton's mistake but not in some scoring points way. It's more like a Bob Woodward behind the scenes book. Although this book is better than the last Bob Woodward book, "Bush At War." I only read about one-third of Bush At War because it started dragging and repeating itself.
Rating: Summary: Fast Paced Book Will Make You Angry As Hell Review: Like others reviewers said, this is not an Ann Coulter/Al Franken kind of book. It's long on story and fact and, thankfully, short on opinion. The story really gets to you. It reminded me of In Harm's Way: The Sinking of the USS Indianapolis and the Extraordinary Story of Its Survivors (another fast paced book). Not the same subject of course since the Indianapolis sailors were heroes and Clinton not fit to clean their shoes. Be ready to get worked up by the book and to get really p--ssed off. I never gave a damn about Clinton's sex life. The worst scandal of the Clinton presidency was what he did to the military. You don't want some book smart, rhodes scholar in touch with his feelings all the time to be commander in chief. Read this book if you want to see what you get if you do.
Rating: Summary: Against All Enemies, Foreign and Domestic Review: Miniter's book should be Required Reading for all concerned citizens who expect elected officials and their appointees to honor the Oath of Office. It is a carefully researched, clearly presented documentary by an inquisitive, independent author with the courage and discipline to deal in supportable facts. It will have no appeal for those who prefer the world of spin and managed images; but the time span covered by this book offers many differing perspectives, much like the multiple views of the proverbial elephant. Obviously, Richard Miniter has described another facet from the same gem examined earlier by David Schippers in SELLOUT.
Rating: Summary: read it ¿ but keep your temper Review: this book is a must in understanding the post-9/11 world. I won't repeat what other reviewers have said. Even allowing that bin Laden wasn't famous for a while, that he may have looked like a windbag in the beginning, and that hindsight is always 20-20; even with all this, the indirection, lassitude, and apparently deliberate avoidance of reality is disgusting. This is not a book about specific missed opportunities; it's about thought patterns and mindsets. The only saving grace is that there were some, too often undercut by others, who kept the faith and did their best.
Rating: Summary: Clinton not entirely up to grade in Foriegn Policy - Shock Review: Mr Miniters book brings to light some extroadinary facts - the refusal to hire Arabic speaking translators to name the most bizzare that point to the breakdown in responsibility within the Clinton Whitehouse. An absorbing and in parts frightening read Losing Bin Laden feels as if he has been welcomed into the stable while all the horses gather round to blame the incumbents in every other stall. The collapse of loyalty in the Whitehouse seems to have been just another casualty of votes at all costs. A gripping read
Rating: Summary: Just wonderful Review: This author tells us the reason that global terror founds its way to americas shores on 9/11. How did it happen? THe author explains in detail how the CLinton administration bent over backwards not to offend the 'peacefull' religion of Islam and did nothing to stop Bin Laden. Terrorists understand only strength. Clinton and his boys were to busy doing other things to notice that Bin Laden was being allowed to get away with unspeakable crimes, much like [Germany] in the 30s. It is no wonder terror finally hit us so hard when we did so little to prevent its unleashment. This book takes us behind the scenes in Yemen to understand the Cole bombing and shows us the foolish military policy that had us bombing the Sudan while thousands of terrorists were training in Afghanistan. This book explains how a weak administration with a weak foreign policy can allow our country to become so open to attack. Its clear that Bin Laden saw our weakness, our openness as he was allowed to hit us from the shores of SOmalia, tot he mountains of Kenya, to the cities of Saudi and finally our own backyard. Its not like Bin Laden didnt warn us, Like [Germany] with Kampf, Bin Laden told the world he would 'declare war on the United States' and the CLintons sat back laughing and must have been thinking "these savage muslims cant possible hit us here in this socialist paradise we are building". Well the book explains what happened, pick up a copy. And for all of you Clinton lovers, the author is not a clinton hater he is merely explaining how we dropped the ball, a republican might have done the same.
Rating: Summary: A great read, as can been seen in Liberals dissing it. Review: When looking at this book, there is one question one only need to ask. Was Clinton offered Osama on three separate occassions? THe facts say, yes, even Clinton admits this. So, why would anything else in the is book be flase? Simple, the liberals do not want to believe that their savior would fail them. That's it. So, because of that, they do nothing but diss the book, call it a bunch of lies, etc. If one would really want to read a book of lies, I would recommend anything Michael Moore has written, or any of his movies. It seems that "Bowling for Columbine" was found to be filled with lies and factual errors. So much so, that the Academy Awards have considered taking back Moore's Oscar award. For other Lies, read Al Franken's new book.
Rating: Summary: For the Militia Crowd Review: This book was obviously written to appeal to the furthest fringes of the paranoid right and in that respect it succeeds. If there was anything of substance in here, it surely would have been noticed by the national press. The fact that it has only caused a stir, and a minor one at that, amongst the extremist crowd limits the reach of this diatribe. Probably half the 5 star reviews on this board were supplied by colleagues of Miniter's like Stephen Pollard. This screed will soon slip into the oblivion it deserves with all the other baseless attack journalism on a President 3 years out of office.
