Summary: 50 stories from people just like you
Review: If you feel like the world needs to change but you don't know how to get started on doing your part, this book is here to help. It features 50 personal essays of political action from people all over the US, and each essay has several tips for how you can do something similar in your own life.

A few of the ideas are: starting a political book club, registering voters in likely or unlikely places, taking action with your family, reading more news and watching less TV "news", and so on.

But remember -- these are just normal people. They have day jobs, just like you. They have families and demanding kids, just like you. Sometimes they feel like what they think or do doesn't matter, just like you. The only difference is that they've chosen to take a few minutes out of their month or day or week to do something that makes them feel better about themselves and about the direction of their community.

But this lies in all of us. We all have the power to throw off the restraints of despair and rekindle some hope in our lives and the lives of those around us.

I should probably disclose that the essay on page 30 is mine! But this isn't about personal promotion, I assure you. All the proceeds from this book are funneled back into MoveOn.org. I have read the essays in this book, and I find them truly inspiring. I hope you will too.

And with that, I'll leave you with these bits of wisdom...

"You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it." --Maya Angelou

"The world is not dangerous because of those who do harm but because of those who look at it without doing anything." --Albert Einstein

"Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is most important that you do it." --Mahatma Gandhi

Summary: Kim Jon Il's 50 Ways To Love Your Rulers
Review: Great if you love socialism. But if you wan a true, free society unlike North Korea I'd pass.

Summary: Simple things you can do... nothing radical!
Review: Despite what some of the reactionary right-wing "reviews" indicate, this book is NOT filled with radical and nefarious plans to undermine society. It is filled with simple, honest ways to get involved in the political process, like writing your congressman, talking to your neighbors, volunteering for a candidate, encouraging people to vote -- the stuff that REALLY scares right-wingers.

The right-wing hate machine wants to keep citizens OUT of the process so they can be free to further plunder the US treasury, drain YOUR social security funds, and promote worldwide hegemony, all in the name of "fighting terror."

This book is about doing your small part to counteract the "dirty tricks" of the RNC with the one thing they can't stand: truthful discussion and honest campaigning. But on the other hand, this book is completely non-partisan, in that every technique and idea could apply to any political party or cause you care to support. It's about restoring democracy in America, period.

For the record, I bought this book and have read numerous selections from it, unlike many of the kneejerk negative "reviews" on here posted before the book was even available.

Summary: A Book for Those who Want to get involved.
Review: Naturally, this book does have a somewhat leftist leaning with intros by Al Gore and the like, but nowhere in the book is there any sort of 'brainwashing' or socialist agendas. It is simply a reminder that as an individual you can help your country. It is a book meant for individuals, not a collective group. All of the ideas presented in the book can be used no matter where you stand on then political spectrum.

And a note to all the reviewers who stated that those who enjoyed the book should stop whining and stop being communists, do you know that the country was founded on activism similar to the ideas found in this book. The founding fathers rejected a government that did not have their best interest in mind, so they organized meetings and protests, and later guaranteed the right to do so in the Constitution. This book is an expression of the American Spirit and all of its rights.

Summary: Inspiring in these uninspiring times
Review: It is great to see this book. These days it is easy to get discouraged when America is so dominated by large corporations that dominate the media and our government. This is a handbook for all of us who wonder what we can do against the machine.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Inspiration for Participatory Demoncracy
Review: For those depressed by the fact that the 'ordinary' person has little influence in today's government, this book will dispell that notion and outline what every person can do to see that our country benefits all Americans. Should be required reading for every high school and college student - and for anyone who feels their voice is never heard. To those who denigrate this book, consider the source - these persons do not really feel America should be a democratically run society. They are truly the unpatriotic Americans.

Summary: Not all people from Sacramento/Folsom are idiots
Review: Great book! Don't believe recent posts by radical right-wing nuts who obviously haven't read the book. This book offers patriotic ideas that every American can adopt to make America a better country.
