Summary: Great ideas for individual action
Review: This is an inspiring book full of suggestions for big and little actions that individuals can take to get involved in the democratic process. The suggestions range from registering voters at your office to running for office yourself. The chapters are personal stories with a sidebar that features specific suggestions.

It's interesting to see so many hate-comments posted by conservatives in other reviews merely because MoveOn.org published the book. In fact, citizens of any political persuasion could use the ideas in this book to help spread their ideas.

I suspect that the reason conservatives are so afraid of grassroots citizen activism is because they fear that if the public generally knew the truth about what Republicans are up to these days the Republican Party would lose more support than it would gain.

Summary: Embarrasing - a missed opportunity!
Review: Promised so much and what do we have -- a sappy do-goody book; MoveOn were a cutting edge force last year but now they seem more to be a force to channel votes to Kerry...the book is junior high in its sophistication...ALinsky's RUles for radicals is still the book for this kind of thing

Summary: Inspiring and activating
Review: Read straight through or pick and choose topics (eg re voting, online activism, the media, and more) - either way, it is fun to read and full of ideas. They say they wanted to use 100, but finally focused on the 50 personal stories chosen from over 2,500, and I am sure that was a challenge.
It was fascinating to read the distilled experience of the 50 people whose stories are here - more than once they were the stories behind campaigns and actions that I have heard of and appreciated but had not known how they got started.
If you like the positive message about how "one person can make a difference" you will love this book. Also if you love the Margaret Mead quote about a small committed group changing the world, that could fit too!
As for me, I am going to buy multiple copies for my son and all his graduating senior friends.
Fifty ways to love your country - a good positive and practical message for anyone from kids up to the most senior among us.

Summary: Grassroots 101
Review: For those of us who have despaired that our country has been pirated away by doublespeaking, braindead relics from the cold war with no concern or the slightest interest in what the majority of We The People want, this book provides some needed inspiration and guidelines on how to get up, get active, and get heard.

Summary: I couldn't stop laughing!!
Review: Sure,go out and get 'em! Simple minded book by the simple minds at MOO-VE ON. I really couldn't stop laughing. As for the one star rating-you people owe me two stars since there is no minus
category.

Summary: An Open Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste
Review: Well, I thought this book was actually quite good. Its funny, it seems to get either 5 or 1 star. On the news today I heard about the practice of people going on amazon.com and intentionally bad reviews for books that they have not read. That is really pathetic, especially because there will not be a large number of people who are "fence sitters" are going to read these reviews. A percentile point maybe, but is that worth you wasting your time writing such a thing? Anyway, my roommate bought the book, and I read it over two days, and thought that it made some pretty good points. And, no, I am not registered in either party (I vote using my OWN brain). A huge number of people could maybe do with a bit of the thinking from this book; too bad that some of them are too bitter and self-aggrandizing to actually do so.

Summary: MoveOff!
Review: It's about what you'd expect. If you're a person already inclined to listen to anything MoveOn has to you certainly won't be disappointed. If you're not, nothing in here's going to change your mind.

The usual pap and drivel, from the usual suspects. Rates one star only because zero's not an option.

Summary: Leftist Social Conditioning
Review: Moveon.org, a group of disgruntled (albeit wealthy) socialists, want you to read their book so that you become one of their drooling lemmings. Save your money. Unless you want to live ignite lots full of Humvees, romp naked on a maple syrup commune, wed your dog and do whatever "feels good" then this book is not for you. Save your money, plant a tree instead.

Summary: They should have a "NO STAR" rating for this one.
Review: It's obvious that Democrats are writing reviews of this book posing as Republicans. The authors pretend this is a how-to manual for persons of any political persuasion to effect change in government. In reality it is a collection of essays on liberal causes and action plans for leftist activists. MoveOn could at least be intellectually honest enough to write a true synopsis of the book for potential buyers. If you are at all interested in a non-partisan book on democratic activism this book will not interest you.
