Rating: Summary: An excellent insight into a Brooklyn Mafia Faction Review: A well written, factual account of one of the most violent factions ("crews") of the Gambino Organized crime family.
Rating: Summary: A Classic! Review: Wow! It reads like fiction, but the amazing thing is that it's all true, which makes it a fantastic read. It's hard to believe these gangsters got away with all they did for so long. A classic mafia story. Congrats to the authors!
Rating: Summary: Probably the most gruesome Mafia story ever told Review: Parts of this book were really gruesome and sickening, but after getting through those parts the story was very interesting. I bought this book because someone else wrote that it was the best Mafia book that they had ever read. I agree with that reviewer. I have lived in New York all my life (a few years in Canarsie and many in Ozone Park, while teaching in Howard Beach). I have always been surrounded by "that life" but I never realized the lengths these people went to to get rid of people that crossed them. Killing wasn't enough...they had to destroy and dismember the bodies as well. The one thing that I would like to know is how the authors got so detailed a story when most of the people involved were dead by the time this book was written, and I can't imagine that anyone with inside connections spoke to them. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the Mafia but keep in mind that parts of this story are degenerate.
Rating: Summary: Murder Machine was great! Review: Murder Machine was probably the best book I ever read on the mafia after The Westies by TJ English. This is a must read!!!! Check it out!
Rating: Summary: An account of complete human amorality and detachment. Review: The fact that DeMeo and his deadly crew were able to exist for as long as they did bears frightening and chilling testimony to the unfettered power of the mob coupled with the ineptness and/or impotence of NYC's police and the FBI. This 'crew' has plumbed to record depths in human depravity. A chilling read, even to those who have become inured to 'mob' violence and murder.
Rating: Summary: Bar none--the most facinating book ever written on the mob! Review: I have an extensive library of mob books and some first-hand dealings with the mob, so I think I am qualified to give my opinion that this book will leave a lasting impression on you like no other book of its kind. It dominated my thoughts and dreams during the time I was reading it. My only criticism would be that they should have developed the most interesting characters (Testa and Senter) more. They deserve their own book!
Rating: Summary: This book puts you there! Review: One of the best books I've ever read. It puts you right in the middle of it all. The characters, good or bad, are interesting and unique. It reads like a bloody soap opera, only it's non-fiction.
Rating: Summary: it doesn't get any better than this Review: murder machine is the best book i've read . the book tells it how it was and that's the sickest part abuot it . i've lived in canarsie all my life and even had the good fortune of knowing them, well some really but ill tell you something they are still heros in canarsie . people still talk about them till this day and its been about 10 to 15 years now that there in jail . ps the exit # on the beltparkway to get off at canarsie is 13. huh
Rating: Summary: A realistic look at life in Brooklyn. Review: Having grown up and lived in Canarsie, where this story takes place, it is good to see that an author has captured what life is really like in Brooklyn, NY.This story is talked about all over Brooklyn. The description of the events are very close to the facts. The authors capture the personalities of the characters with frightening realism, especially since quite a few were dead when the story was written
Rating: Summary: UNBELIEVABLE! THIS BOOKS TELLS ALL AT THE GAMBINO HEIGHT! Review: This tells you just at what links the Mafia will got to retain power. It shows the trail from Castellano's mansion to Demeo's vicious lifestyle on the streets of Brooklyn's toughest neighborhood (Carnarsie). Fed say close to 200 murders and most were never found. They actually had proof of a about sixty! There will probably never be another killer like DeMeo and his Gemini Twins. Sammy The Bull cant top his notches of blood.
