Summary: Buy this book... and a box of tissues
Review: All one has to say is "How Could You?" and I start crying. That one essay from this book has been published all over the world in dozens of languages and is only one selection from this inspired collection. Okay, so Jim is a good friend of mine. That does not diminish my admiration for his talent and heartfelt endorsement of this book. Jim writes openly and with such depth of emotion that one will instinctively reach for the nearest pet, furred, feathered, scaled, whatever, to share love and comfort. Lacking a pet, take your significant other in your arms and share this wonderful book. Very seldom does one encounter such passion that engenders passion returned tenfold. These truly are pieces of Jim's heart, which has to be one of the largest organs on record, or he would have needed a dozen transplants to produce this book. From the sarcastic voice of his grade school teacher, speaking through Alexis, "the most beautiful sable basset in the world", through Artique the wolf and the children of the night, to his father, a very complicated man who overcame many obstacles and loved horses, these pieces come together in a seamless whole than can nevertheless be read only in measured doses. Each piece is overpowering, reducing the reader to hopeful tears or helpless laughter. There are no small pieces here. Jim is a voice crying for the wilderness, speaking for the speechless, with power and sincerity that must inspire all his readers to do at least one thing to improve the lot of at least one animal in the world. Let us all read this book and pay it forward - recommend it, donate time or money or resources to animal rescue, carry the message in our hearts and piece it out to all we meet.

Summary: A must read book!!
Review: As the owner of several Basset Hounds I was especially tickled with "The Basset Chronicles". I could read stories like that all day! His other stories, poems, & writings are inspirational, sensitive, & some can bring tears to your eyes. Anyone with any sensitivity at all could not help but be moved by them. I also liked how he included many resources & research sites at the end of the book to help raise people's awareness of the abuse & cruelty we humans perpetrate on helpless animals, along with ways to help remedy the problems. Because of his love of all animals Jim has unselfishly given rescue groups the opportunity to sell the book as a fundraiser, out of his own proceeds, in order to help many, many animals. An excellent book! On a scale of 1-10, I give it a hearty 10!

Summary: Don't Miss This One
Review: For anyone who loves animals, this book is a must-buy. Jim Willis captures the incredible love, loyalty and forgiveness that animals offer. His stories of Alexis, the "talking" dog, are highly amusing, and his essay about taking a wolf into his care is fascinating. Willis also includes many poignant fictional stories and poems in this collection. Overall, it's great bedside reading, and would make a great gift item for loved ones, as well.

Summary: A wonderful read and beautiful illustrations
Review: I absolutely LOVED this book and still pick it up now and again to flick through. Jim Willis has found a unique and profound way to show us a better way of life and love: through the funny, sad and sassy voices of animals. This is a book that will make you laugh and cry and stays with you long afterwards. The illustrations bring the stories and the adorable characters to life. The artist's love of animals and commitment to rescue is evident. The illustrations are gentle and beautifully done and make the book a gift.

Summary: One of a kind talent and emotion
Review: I am not even half way thru the book and found that I am unable to read it in public, or put it down.
I am either laughing or tearing up...
This book is unbelievable...even the handful of writings I have already read thru e-mails are worthy of reading over and over again...committing to memory.
This book is a must for anyone who does animal rescue work.
I think I may carry it as a bible to quote passages every time I see someone dropping off their "pet" at the local shelter, wearing a fur, or just simply stating how much they hate cats (or snakes,fish, etc...)

Summary: Jim speaks for all rescue groups
Review: I had first heard of Jim's stories when "How Could You?" was sent to rescue organizations and he had us all crying. We live many of his stories every day and now he has finally put them into print. Some of the stories he tells are tear-jerkers, but they are sadly too true. Others are uplifting, give hope, and remind us how precious our animal friends are. I hope that others will read this, feel the emotions it evokes, and do something about it. Visit your local animal shelter or rescue organization. If you can't adopt an animal, offer to help them in some way. In helping, you will also reap the rewards. Thank you, Jim, for sharing your heartfelt words of inspiration to us all.

Summary: If you love an animal, read this book!
Review: I have the pleasure of knowing Jim personally but only recently had the opportunity to read the book. I laughed, I cried, I adored every word in between those 2 covers. This book brings everything you feel for an animal or have ever felt for an animal to the surface of your conscienceness and lays it out in front of you. It makes you hug your animals and rejoice in their existance. Every animal lover should read this book immediately. It will help you to come to a greater understanding of our lives with them and our responsabilities towards them, not only the ones that we actually personally know, but all that can be affectd by our actions. Summary: beautiful book that is a handbood for compassion
Review: I just gave this book as a gift to a friend's thirteen-year-old daughter. (I also have my own copy!) She was mesmerized by it. I gave it to her because she has always been an "animal person" for all of her young life, and this book is the best handbook that I know of to help her understand what this calling and passion for animals is all about. Jim Willis speaks to the animal person in all of us. He beautifully describes, explores and celebrates the bond that we have with our animals. This book has something to say to just about everyone, but it speaks especially to those of us who work to protect, rescue, rehabilitate and advocate for so many animals that have no one to speak for them. It is educational - in the beautifully written words and images, there is so much information and wisdom. Anyone who reads this book will be changed by it. We all need to read it.
