Rating: Summary: Illustrations and Poetry to Enrapture You! Review: What a superior book! The spirit reaching writings of Jim Willis combined with the exemplary artwork of Christine Head will engrave your heart. I especially love: "I Loved You Best" and "Before I Die". Both pieces moved me on many levels. Christine Head captures the special nuances of each subject; introducing you to the uniqueness of each individual. No cookie cutter "breed standard" illustrations here! I recommend this book not only for yourself but also for sharing with others.
Rating: Summary: A must read for anyone who has any interest in animals Review: What a wonderful, caring, insightful book about animals and people! So far, I've read "Pieces of My Heart", by Jim Willis twice. The first time, I read it quickly, because I wanted to see what the next anecdote, poem, or quote would be. The second time was to savor each writing. It's obvious that Jim has a true love for animals and puts his words into actions. His word pictures are enchanting and I felt that I was a part of each story. I have made gifts of this book to several friends (who have also sung Its praises.) I'm looking forward to more of Jim Willis' writings.
Rating: Summary: Stock Up on Tissues Review: When I first reviewed Pieces of my Heart, I knew Jim Willis had a potential best-seller on his hands. They say that writing is just a matter of "opening a vein," and with "Pieces," Jim has opened up his whole heart. He has given us a glimpse into the lives of other creatures who share this Planet with us, who valiently struggle to survive despite the mess we humans have created. Anyone who loves life, animals, or the Earth we live on owes it to himself or herself to read this book. Fair warning should be given, though. You won't make it through the first few pieces without a box of tissues, and just when you think your emotions have peaked, you'll surprise yourself with a roaring belly-laugh when you read the first of the Basset Hound Chronicles. It is no wonder that the reading of "How Could You?" - the most-published animal-related essay in the world - by radio DJs has literally stopped traffic. It is impossible to read "Pieces of my Heart" without picking up a pen to write a letter to an editor, donating money to an animal rescue group, or hugging your own dog or kitty. If I could only buy one book to read the rest of my life, it would be this one.

Rating: Summary: Is and will prove a classic! Review: Words are inadequate for me to praise this work enough. It is a book which is already and will forever prove a classic. A plea for a compassionate present and future which no one of any feeling can possibly ignore. It is a plea which we cannot afford to ignore if we are to have a future at all!
