Summary: BRAVO!!!
Review: This book really will transform the way one looks at dating and at God's role in relationships. Elliot intricately weaves her wisdom into her own story with Jim Elliot and thus creates a highly readable and enjoyable book. Rather than offering a mere list of "do's" and "do not's," Elliot sheds new light on Biblical truths and enables her readers to create their own standards for love as they pursue the Lover of Their Souls and find His wisdom.

Summary: My textbook for life!
Review: If you want to know about a Christian woman's proper role, with real life application, then read this book. It is of infinite value in figuring out what to do, what not to do, and why things happen the way they do! I think every teenage girl should read this, along with any other Christian woman!

Summary: Excellent, a must for every Christian!
Review: Passion and Purity is a well-needed book written on love and dating from a Christian perspective. Its contents, such as love, dating, service, and sacrifice, are crucial to the Christian life. Passion and Purity is based on sound Christian principles. When I first read this book, I did not agree with most if Elliot's views. But after rereading it a couple of times and contemplating on its contents, I found this book became a ray of light in my darkness. This is also an excellent book to study in Bible studies, youth groups, and personal Bible studies. Passion and Purity makes excellent gift. Every preteen and teenager should read this book. I wish someone told me of this book earlier. It would have saved me from a lot of heartache!

Summary: A Necessity For Any Committed Christian
Review: This book tackles tough subjects that are necessary to be tackled if one wants to bring every aspect of his or her life: especially their love life, under the Lordship and control of Christ. In the words of Elisabeth Elliot herself: "The love life of a Christian is a crucial battleground. There, if no where else, it will be determined as to who is God: the world, the self, and the Devil, or the Lord Christ." Sharing some very personal memories of her life with Jim Elliot, and the *five years* of waiting that they had to do before they knew it was God's will to marry, Elisabeth proves that she walks her talk, and give valuable, Godly information on many aspects of singleness, marriage, and love from a strong Christian point of view

Summary: Read it when you have the time
Review: The book has amazing insight, and is truly written of a verypersonal, intimate walk with Christ. But it is also very difficult toread. Because of excerpts from the Bible, her diary, and little poems, the book does not flow well if you're interested in just reading it to get the general idea. To get full benefit from the book, you need to have many hours to spend, slowly sifting through the book and absorbing the information. Certainly there are no "quick fixes" for relationships in here. (In fact, I might go so far as to say that the book explicity denounces that whole plan.)

Summary: "Must Reading" for new relationships
Review: My wife and I both read this book when we first started dating. The principles and truths conveyed in the book literally shaped our courtship, engagement, and marriage. Now after 8 years, the solid, Biblical truths found in Elliot's writing continue to guide our marriage and enrich our children. We were so grateful that we named our son "Elliot"

Summary: Excellent resource for both men and women
Review: I remember first reading this book while in the middle of a significant relationship and being MAD! Noone had ever shared these ideas with me before. This is not a book about "how far is okay". It takes a radically different approach as it takes the approach that our love life needs to be lived in submission to Christ. I have introduced many friends to this book, and I give it one of my highest recommendations!

Summary: The Most Influential Book of My Life
Review: Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliot has had a major impact on my life. I've always loved reading from authors who are frank and to the point; those who do not mess around with millions of metaphors and fancy phrasing to get around telling it like it is. Elliot is such an author. Her style of writing is down to earth and inspiring, putting a different spin on everyday thinking. It is refreshing to read a book that presents God's truth in a way that is straight forward and clear. While the subtitle of the book implies that it is like every other dating book out there, let me say that it is anything but that. It probes our true motivations, our pains, and our victories in a way that made me forget that I was reading a so-called "dating commentary". It encouraged me to switch my views around, set better moral standards with more definite lines, and cleared up many gray areas. I believe that every Christian who wishes to date should read Passion and Purity so that they are prepared for all the challenges and temptations that dating holds.

Summary: Religious crap
Review: I'm a fundamentalist Christian who loathes this book. I'm about as theologically conservative a person as you're ever likely to find. So why do I hate this book so much?

Well, for one thing, it encourages people to chase after things after God says no. This woman waited for five years for a man who said that she was kind of attractive (to her face!) even after her family and HIS family told her to let it go. God opens the doors he wants opened. She kept pounding away until she got HER will done.

The most important thing, however, is that this book is intensely religious. Religion is antithetical to the spirit of Christ. It is, in fact, demonic.

So why does Elisabeth encourage us to follow her example exactly? Why does she intimate that it's wrong for a person to touch his beloved's cheek? Is God not dynamic? Are His mercies not new every morning? Does he want us to act exactly like someone else? Does he want us to be deprived of the glorious liberty that exists within obedience? I'm just sayin'.

Summary: 19 yr old girl-this book really helped me!
Review: This is an awesome book. I know not every girl my age can be so captivated by a 1950's love story (or whatever the year) but this one touched my heart. The author tells of the typical teenage girls life, but she turns it into a teenage girls life directed by God. She not only waits patiently for her love, but she makes sure it is Gods will. It shows the worth of waiting on God, and shows you how she escaped premarital promiscuity with Gods help and a dream. You think she is never going to be happy, but she ends up more then thrilled. Great book for a young girl but I think with todays society they would have to change the story to modern times for most of the girls my age to like it.
