Summary: A flat out BORING book-not very edifying.
Review: I read this book not too long ago and it was simply boring! Ms. Elliot attempts to proove her points by basically giving us her life story. To make matters worse her style of writing is a dry as the Sahara Desert.

Bottom line: DO NOT waste your $$$ on this book.

If you're intent on reading an Elliot book, then I would have to reccommend Quest For Love. That book is far superior to PP and has some great tips in it.

Summary: Why didn't I read this sooner?
Review: I read this book at the advice of my new roommate after ending a 2 year relationship with a man I still love and hope to marry one day. Elisabeth Elliot is right on target about roles in relationships and proper courtship practices, along with everything else she says! :) When I read it I was upset because I hadn't had her advice to follow in the first place, thus earning for myself loads of unnecessary pain and hardship. It has helped me revamp my thinking on relationships in general and mine in particular. I just wish someone would have given me such correct, yet gentle, advice. Relationships are the most important thing in one's life, and knowing how to take care of them is immeasurable important! A must read for anyone entering or exiting a relationship.

Summary: It will change the way you think that you should think!
Review: This is what I told my boyfriend when I gave him this book to read. After I read this book, I realized that my thinking about male-female relationships in God's eyes was extremely wrong. It challenged me to change my thinking and to let God change my heart so that every part of my life is under His control. I would recommend this book to anyone who stuggles to keep their relationship with the one they love focused on Christ. This book will definitely challenge you to examine your approach to your human relationships as well as to relationship with God!

Summary: Get the book and hold on to it tight!!!
Review: Personally, I read it once and skip it for years. As other reviewers had said, you should be reading this book over and over again. I found myself falling back from God's standard, and this book, gives me comforts (again). Now, I won't let this book part from my bookshelf at all.

This book is not only about what is right subjected to dating, but what is the life's priority - to glorify the Lord, that is. Elizabeth and Jim's story will give you hope and save you from a lot of troubles and heart aches (if you apply what you learn form it to your life) . It should be a 'required' book for every youth and single Chritians! God bless you all.

Summary: More than a book on dating
Review: Passion and Purity taught me more than I had expected. I thought it was just another book on the "right" way to persue dating. What I found was a book that truly challenged me to bring ALL facets of my life under God's control, and an understanding that it's the only way to find true freedom. It's one of the most real and inspiring books I've ever read.

Summary: Why didn't someone give me this book when I was younger?!
Review: I wish every young person or older single in the world could read this book. It is a wonderful mix between her views and her experiences, all of which hold relentlessly to devoting all of oneself to Christ. Her love letters from Jim make this book particularly appropriate for teenage girls or young women. However, the letters reveal a man's perspective as well. Purity is not archaic, and the fact that several thousand copies of this book were sold on a secular college campus after she spoke is an indication that it speaks to Generation X as well--a message they rarely hear anymore.

Summary: A Friend from California!
Review: I first read Passion and Purity when I was 17 years of age. Ohhh, how wish I had read it when I was 12, 13 or 14 years old. I encourage more people to read Passion and Purity. It is the way to go these days and a very rare and uncommon virtue.

Passion and Purrity touched my heart and helped me keep focused on the One from above. I hope it touches your heart as much as it has mine.

I have only read the book about 7 or 8 times. I need to read it more often to keep me in the strait and narrow.

Just remember, if you are single (like me). Remember you can have the peace that passes all understanding when you offer it up to the Lord from above. Lay it at Jesus' feet and continue to remain faithful and obedient in ALL that you do.

Thanks,

Your Friend

Laura

Summary: Not worth the reading effort....
Review: This book is great if one is solely interested in how the relationship between Elisabeth and Jim Elliot evolves and grows. Ms. Elliot's comments about leaving oneself open to God is a good concept to follow in any area of life. However, her advice on dating relationships was peculiar to her own experience, and wouldn't work in all situations. An interesting read if one is interested in other people's romantic involvments, but highly idealistic and impractible to those looking for honest and workable advice on Christian dating matters.

Summary: One of the few books have read many times over!
Review: I don't know what more I can add to all these reviews, but to say I am one more person who feels that this book shines light on the path for those who truly want to glorify God in their relationships and who are willing to put themselves and their future entirely in His hands. Read it! And if you are willing to lay your heart open before God as you do, it will change your life! How I wish I'd read (and headed) this book many years ago. Looking back at the mistakes I've made, I can testify to the truth contained in its pages, though I wouldn't have wanted to hear it back then!

Summary: The Lord has His best for us...
Review: Warning: do not read this book unless you are ready and willing to pour out your best and most cherished gifts before the Lord so that He will take them up and be glorified through them! A wonderful, essential book for Christian men and women who are serious about seeking their joy in the Lord, and who desire His holiness in their lives.
