Summary: The BEST relationship book ever
Review: There is no egotistical b.s. on the part of the author and as such is a quick read with easy to understand principles. This book is your best bet to prepare you to find lasting love, since Kasl does not promote the use of false identity nor manipulation to get someONE to love you. What the book will do for you is restructure the way you approach love altogether. Buy one for yourself and another for a friend or two - it is that good.

Summary: GREAT guide for being respectful of one's partner!
Review: These guidelines may not apply to the same people who use...and respond to, "pick up" lines. However, my experience is that there is a new breed of lady now that demands a more respectful partner. This book has helped me get over my ego, be a better person, and have more respect for my lady. The Tonglin meditation has been a god-send for helping me get past some of my personal problems. And, I believe that healers can effectively use this same technique to help others, too.

Summary: Nothing to do with Buddhism
Review: This book has absolutley nothing to do with buddhism and most of the inferences the author makes about the Buddha and his teachings are misguided. She quotes Sufi mystics, Rumi and Quaker sources and rarley the Buddha as the title suggests. There are some useful ideas, don't get me wrong, but as a practicing Buddhist, I find the author insults Buddhist ideals and principles with things like misquoting the four noble truths (the foundation of Buddhism) and even refering to god on multiple occasions (even though it is clear Buddhism has no creator). The book is OK at best, but I would save my money.

Summary: Perfect exploration into the nature of being human
Review: This book helped me so much! It is now my bible for relationships. I am not spiritual at all and it helped me realize what I have been missing in all of my relationships -- whether it be intimate or platonic.

Summary: Hey--I'm Healthy
Review: This book helped me to remember that I am not only "normal" but actually quite healthy. I enjoyed that it did not differentiate between women and men in the dating process, but put us all together as human beings who simply want to love and be loved.
There are no quick fixes in this book. No real steps about what to do and how and when to do it. Rather, it offers more general, and gentle, support. I read it through quickly the first time. The second time, I read thru it slowly and journaled along with it, writing down some of my favorite quotes. What stuck out to me most were the different ways in which she encourages one to have an open heart and to accept our longing for a lover as our desire to break free of our own limited, rigid view of ourselves. She is very non-judgemental in her approach. A very affirming and comforting book.

Summary: LOVE AND SPIRITUALITY - A POWEFUL COMBINATION!
Review: This book is a light-hearted, whimsical look at love and spirituality and how one goes hand-in-hand with the other. Although the book is not a lengthy one, it does leave the reader contemplating the messages given in the book. The book has the potential to help the reader develop truer, more meaning and lasting relationships because it is based on the compassion and simple truths one encounters in Buddhist philosophy.

The spiritual path one follows in their personal relationships has a direct result on the happiness, peace and contentment one will find in everyday living. In following that enlightened path, we learn a great deal about our own inner self. We cannot rely on others to make us happy; we, and we alone, control our own degree of happiness. The author outlines several behaviours for readers to examine, both in their partner and in their inner self. "If the Buddha Dated" will also help the reader to determine if their relationship is truly based on love or solely based on sexual attraction and infatuation - an excellent point to ponder before entering into a sexual realtionship. This is definitely an enjoyable and insightful book for any age - love and spirituality have no age barriers. May you find eternal and unconditional love in life's journey!

Summary: Crawl, Don't Fall, In Love!
Review: This book, written by a Quaker psychotherapist with an interest in Sufism and Buddhism, is a treasure for adults (of all ages!) who wonder why dating and relationships are so difficult. This book isn't intended to educate any of us in Buddhism as a faith, but to speak to those who want a fulfilling intimate love relationship.

Western culture's view of love -- often a hard-to-fulfill expectation of love-at-first-sight encounter, based on a strong and immediate physical attraction, ending with a happily-ever-after-fairy tale conclusion -- has confused, disheartened and frustrated many of us who just can't make that kind of romance last for long, let alone forever.

This book combines Buddhist, Quaker and Sufi spiritual philosophy to love, helping us clear our minds. Kasl calls this, "crawling in love," and says, "When we crawl in love we are more likely to find the true fire of hearts meeting..."

As another reviewer stated, the information in the book is "common sense, nothing original in it at all." That comment, I suspect, would make the Buddha laugh. We have been on earth so long, certainly there is nothing new under the sun to help us with our relationship problems, only old truths we forget as we get caught up our romantic wish for Love American Style.

Kasl reminds us of some simple truths. Ground yourself in spiritual wisdom, remember the impermanence of everything, learn compassion for yourself and others. She sites some common themes in Quakerism, Buddhism and Sufism - center yourself, take time to reflect, listen to that still small voice within, and you will be able to accept and give love in a deep, lasting way.

She explores our need for an intimate relationship, in a way that is different from the Mars and Venus approach which focuses more on the differences between men and women, tending to widen the gap. Unlike Gray's books, and others which direct us to learn how to say and do the 'right stuff' externally, she encourages us to find connect in the spiritual and human similarities we have with each other, and to respond to each other from our genuine selves.

She touches on ads, dating services, the internet, same gender relationships, dating when there are kids involved, physical intimacy, tonglin meditation, and breaking up.

This book absolutely is not for everyone. The reference to "Christian" spiritual practices on the back cover is misleading, since it actually draws on more liberal, non-dogmatic Quaker practices. If you are more of a Western philospher than an Eastern philosopher, if you would like new ideas spelled out in an easy to follow, guaranteed fashion, you probably should skip this book.

This goes on my own list of books to loan, give or recommend to friends and family members struggling with 'relationship issues.' And to the friend who loaned it to me, I say, Thanks, Jack!

Summary: It ...[stinks].
Review: This is a nicey nice book with very little new to say. Just be yourself in a relationship and take it slow. That's about it. She then goes on describing Tonglin Meditation: think nice thoughts and your mental vibrations will change the world. Uh, I don't think so. The only good thing about this book is she turned me on to Quantum Psychology - which I find fascinating. 2 stars.
