Summary: An Alternative Tarot
Review: The thing that initally drew me to this deck was the fact that is based on teaching for Native American tribes. Among them ar the Cherokee and Chickasaw, which I have ancestry in. I'd tried working with several different types of decks, but never found one that spoke to me until I held this one in my hand.

This deck does not function in the way that most tarot decks do. Instead of dividing the deck into minor and major arcana and using suites (pentacles, cups, ect), this deck is meant to be read a whole.

You will find nothing but animals in this deck, everything from the ant to the dolphin. Each animal has a lesson. It may be leadership, stamina, self-reflection or innocence to name a few. This lesson is referred to as that particular animal's medicine. The medicine referred to throughout this deck is anything that will strengthen the reader's connection to the Great Spirit and to all life. By incorporating these lessons into your own life you will learn about yourself as well as those around you.

There are also blank shields for you to add any animals that you feel a connection to that are left out of the deck, or if you wish to design your own personal medicine shield they can be used for that.

The book contains spread for finding your nine totem animals, and various spreads that are influenced by the teachings of the Native American tribes (the Sun Lodge spread for example is for how others see you, while the Moon Lodge spread is a mirror of you.

I have used this deck for well over a year now and find its medicine has helped me along my path. If you're interested in Shamanism I would definately suggest this deck. It would work well for those interested in animal guides, totem animals or the teaching of Native American tribes.

Summary: A wonderful deck to have! :)
Review: There is a lot of animals with a good amount of information on all of them. Though in my past readings, some of the information led to no assistance in the question at hand. The layout of the cards is pertty much the same throughout. The only difference is that there is a different animal inside each animal shield. Also, there is no scenery around the animals. I find it hard to seperate animals from their enviroment. It leaves a feeling of disconnectedness. To use this deck you will have to go more on memorization of the definitions rather than allowing the images of the cards to give you information. I have however come across a lot of people who do enjoy the deck and use it quite often. So perhaps I am just needing to work more on connecting with it.

Summary: Cards for shamans, witches, and plain animal lovers
Review: These cards a amazing! The artwork is good, the companion book is very in depth, and the readings are great.

In the beginning of the book, it tells you how to use the cards to discover your very own totem animals. After you discover what animals are your totems, you flip to the page the animal is on and find out all about the animal as well as what the animal has to teach you. The book is also very good to use if you see an animal in the wild or if you have visions. Pay close attention. These animals have alot to teach you.

This is one of my favorite divination decks as well as teaching animal medicine. The deck also includes some blank cards so you can include animals that may not appear in the deck. Don't get me wrong, the companion book is not the only book that can teach you about certain types of medicine, but if you don't have any other books, it is a good start. The animals never stop teaching us.

Summary: A Piece Of Native American History
Review: These cards are great by far the best. The cards are based on the ancient Indian belief that sacred animals guide you through your life making up your strengths and weakneses. You can use the cards to give a general idea about yourself or you can use them to problem solve through difficult times. The cards are excellent fun on a rainy day as well.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: This book is my first stop upon encountering an animal and looking for the energy and message it brings. Really nice writing and it covers lots of animals. Haven't used the cards but they're very nicely drawn.

Summary: A wonderful revision of a Medicine Classic.
Review: This deck builds on an already great system by adding the new animal cards. The descriptions are clear and comprehensive. I would recommend it for anyone; beginner or seasoned seekers. I have worked with this system for the last 4 years and I think it is a worthwhile purchase if you have the old printing.

Summary: good resource for working with Native American animal totems
Review: This is not a Tarot deck, but rather a collection of 44 cards depicting animals important in Native American spiritual traditions. The artwork by Angela Werneke is beautiful and perfect for the purpose: peaceful and earthy, rich in detail and style. A nice touch is the inclusion of a few blank cards, in case you want to add your own favorite animals to the set. (It may be a little daunting to try to emulate Werneke's artwork, though!)

The book (by Jamie Sams and David Carson) is a very nicely produced hardback, a welcome change from the throw-away paperbacks often sold with card decks. It is somewhat weak on background (which I was interested in learning): one doesn't get much of an impression of how this all fits in with real Native American traditions, or if it even does at all. The bulk of the book, though, consists of descriptions of the energies or life-strategies represented by the different animals, and here the authors do a fine job. The descriptions are clear and memorable, and there is a bit of story or poetry tossed in from time to time. A very nice reference to accompany the cards.

I think a conventional Tarot deck would be better suited to divination work (although the book gives a few obligatory card spreads). But the medicine cards really shine when it comes to guiding you through the many different strategies or personas we wear through life: teacher, seeker, nurturer, and so on. I think this is a deck to be used one or two cards at a time, with careful thought to the animal depicted and what aspect of one's own personality it relates to. It is thus a very nice resource for self-image and relationship work, especially for those with empathy for Native American traditions and/or animal life.
