Rating: Summary: Okay Review: The beginning was GREAT, then something happened and it kind of idled through the middle, then toward the end it picked up and became okay (maybe a little too fantastical--but nonetheless, okay).Madeline was not so much an innocent as she was dumb. The hero was wonderful! I did, however, notice many similarities to other books of hers I've read.
Rating: Summary: Honor's Splendour Review: This book was very enjoyable to read. The plot and the settings gave me a clear picture in my mind. It made me feel like I was there. I thought the charactors were well thought out. There were many times in this book where the plot is very funny. Along with it being funny their are many parts were it is very sad to read.
Rating: Summary: great book, wish it was longer Review: This is a great book, although I felt the beginning was kinda hard to get into. But like all J.G. books, you're soon pulled in. I thought that maybe there could have been less of an impact from Louddon. The ending was too abrupt. I really enjoyed the part where her fever made her hallucinate! HAHA! But I thought they should have told her what she had done. I hate characters being left in the dark!! Maybe the author could have elaborated a bit on Rhinehold since Madelyne did find out that he was her father. The Henry and William bit was unnecessary, in my opinion. And I felt so sorry for the younger brother because he wanted her too, but Duncan took her for his own! I think there could have been minor improvements that could have made this book better, but overall, it's still a joy to read!
Rating: Summary: I would give this book ten stars if I could!! Review: I love all of Julie Garwood's novels and this one is no exception. The chemistry between "the Wolf" and Madelyne is excellent and I love the way he is always there to protect her! I would recommend that anyone who loves romance at its best read this!
Rating: Summary: Not Nearly As Good As MOST of her books! Review: If first time readers loved this one, they'll definitely love Saving Grace, Ransom, and many other JG novels, except Rebellious Desire. This book was okay but it fell flat to me. It was easily recognizable as a JG book, but it lacked pizazz; the plot and characters didn't quite hold my interest. But I do LOVE this author!
Rating: Summary: Honor's Splendour Review: I have read almost all of Julie Garwoods writings and I would have to say that this was my all time favorite. It was a great romance filled with excitement. The characters are fabulous. As soon as I got it I couldn't put it down, I recommend that people read this book because it is extremely good.
Rating: Summary: A keeper to read over and over... Review: This was the first historical romance I read and the first Julie Garwood book I read. I'm hooked! I loved the characters and "revisit" them every couple of months. I hope they're planning a hardcover edition so I can buy it to keep in my personal "library".
Rating: Summary: Not one of her best Review: I am big fan of other Garwood novels, like The Bride and The Prize. But I didn't care for this one at all. In fact, I put it down a little over half way, which is something I very rarely do with a romance. It's just not well written. The hero and heroine are interesting enough, but most of the book is written in terse sentences with way too many pronouns and proper names, sort of like "Duncan thought this. Madelyne did that. Then Duncan did this. After he did that, Madelyne did this. Then she went here and said this to him, but he said something else. Then Madelyne and Duncan did this other thing." There wasn't enough description or dialogue to ever make the me feel like I was really *in* the story. It was like reading the cliff notes. Eroticism was also lacking. There is barely any mention of Duncan's desire for the heroine until half way through the book, when he suddenly realizes he loves her. There is no anticipation or build up to the consumation of their relationship. After it, however, there is little to look forward to, as the subplots and secondary characters are less than interesting. I am completely baffled by the rave reviews for this book. It's nowhere near the level of books like The Bride, and hard to believe the same person even wrote it.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Garwood is the best...and this one is HER best! Review: ... but Honor's Splendour still remains my favorite. ..the thing that most impresses me about Ms. Garwood's writing style is her way of introducing a chapter. She always manages to capture the reader's attention with that very first sentence. This book is a great example of that. When Duncan (the Wolf) executes an intricate plot to kidnap his greatest enemy's sister in retaliation for the rape of his own sister, he is in for a surprise. The Lady Madelyne, mistakenly under the impression that the Wolf is in mortal danger because of her brother Louddon, risks her own personal safety to "rescue" him. Though his helplessness is only a part of his overall plan, her kind act inspires respect and caring in the hardened warrior and he finds that he cannot follow through with his plan to dishonor her as his revenge. He also, however, cannot bring himself to give her up. If you enjoy reading historical romances, this is definitely a book you won't want to miss. And I have to agree with a previous reviewer that this can be an expensive book...for I have worn it out two times myself and am now looking to buy it for the third time...
Rating: Summary: A book to read over and over and over... Review: I first borrowed this from a library, read it through the night, and then bought one for myself. This is a great book! The heroine, Madelyne, is taken prisoner by Duncan, an enemy of her brother. Obviously, they end up together but it's a fun journey all the way. I also like the bits and pieces of greek mythology in the book, since this is an interest of Madelyne's. This is one of my keepers...
