Rating: Summary: Laugh, Cry, Enjoy! Review: "Honor's Splendour" is one of the more wonderful books I have come across over the many years of reading this genre. The characters are marvelous - well defined. They blossom as you progress through the chapters. The Heroine, Madelyne, is loving, kind, strong, clumsy, spirited. Duncan, "The Wolf", is a dream come true. Strong, gentle, and kind. His brothers, Gilard and Edmond, are worth their own sequels. "Honor's Splendour" was suspenseful, funny, and sweet. Hard to find one book to cover all of these and do it well. Kudos to Ms. Garwood on a job well done. "Honor's Splendour" is a keeper, and for me, that says a lot. I have six paperbacks I have kept over the years which I re-read. Hers will become the seventh. If sequels do exist to tell us Gilard's and Edmond's story, please let me know. I have yet to find them in my searches! If they don't exist, we should all write and beg Ms. Garwood to put an end to our misery. Let us know what kind of woman could win the heart of Gilard, the angry warrior; and Edmond, the garrulous healer.
Rating: Summary: Julie Garwood, who doesn't love her? Review: I have read every historical romance by Julie Garwood and more than once. I own them all. She is really the only romance novelist I read. This book is my favorite, but I must say I love them all. Ms. Garwood helps me escape the real world and gives me a break from my life issues and takes me to a new place of fantasy. You are taken to a different time and place. Her books are a wonderful blend of romance, action, mystery, and humor. You can't help but fall in love with the characters. She has a wonderful ability to paint a picture and draw you into the story. Honor's Splendour is truly that and a delicious story of love, passion, and intrigue. Try it, you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: Go directly to the book store! It is that good Review: Ok, so Julie Garwood's books keep getting better and better!
This book was so sweet. It starts out with our hero Duncan being betrayed by Madelyne's brother Louddon. Madelyne comes to his rescue and warms his feet which he was shocked by. He takes her as his captive and then the love story starts.
Madelyne thinks she is not worthy of anything. The 2 years with her brother made her believe that she had no worth. She does things that are brave but doesn't think of it as brave. When she rescued Duncan she knew if she was caught she would be beaten by her brother but Duncan needed her help so she helped him. Of course he repays her by kidnapping her but it is ok. Duncan realizes that she thinks she is nothing and proves to her that she is someone worthy of love and respect. Duncan opens a whole new world to Madelyne where if she is happy she can laugh and if she is mad it is ok to yell. She trusted Duncan and knew he would not use the emotions against her like her brother.
Duncan...ahhh, where to start! He is such a good hero. He is huge and so strong and brave yet sensitive. After being with Madelyne for a while he starts doing and saying things that are out of character for him. He is a very well respected and feared Baron and so he has to act a certain way. He must rule with fear and loyalty to the king at all times...so he thinks. Madelyne changes all that. She teaches him to be a brother to his family and that he can be both Brother and lord to them. She also teaches him that to rule with love and respect is better than to rule with fear and respect. His eyes are opened to many things through out the book and he really does not fight them for long like a lot of characters I have read. He comes off as closed minded but he really isn't at all. He just may not tell anyone he has changed his mind he will just change whatever it is. He hates being questioned and she questions him all the time and it is so funny. Duncan has a huge heart, but he tries to hide it. When he realizes he loves her it is so great! He tries to make everything perfect the night he realizes he loves her. So sweet! Madelyne still tries to hide her feelings from Duncan on certain things but he can read people very well and does things out of his character to make her happy and show her she is important and has worth.
This story was so sweet and good!! Julie Garwood wrote it so well you feel the emotions. A lot of stuff goes on in this book but it is still a very good romance. I really did not want the story to end. I felt like I knew them so well. At the end of the book I sighed and had a smile on my face (that, to me, is a sign of a good book). If you haven't read this book I would suggest you go to the closest book store and get it right away...ok, so why are you still reading this? Go buy the book!!
Rating: Summary: Simply the Best Review: Honor's Splendor was the first Romance Novel that I ever read. Since then I have read many more and this one remains the best in every catagory. Julie Garwood walks you through their meeting, falling in love and a wonderful ending that leaves little to be desired (except a sequel perhaps that gives us MORE).
There is only one problem! Everytime I buy this book I read it so often it falls apart. I can't even tell you how many editions I've been through. Then if you count my mom and sister, who have to have thier own copies (since lending it out is not an option - I may want to read it one night!).
I want to buy a Hardcover but there are only 2 that I've found on the internet and both are priced over $300. I love the book, but I'm live by modest means and cannot afford to spend that much on anything but Rent and car repairs!
If you know of some goldmine that has this book in Hardcover - Please tell me! If you haven't read this book - BUY IT in paperback. You will not regret it.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites Review: This is one of my favorites, you just fall in love with the protagonists and despise the anatgonists. It has adventure and romance..
Rating: Summary: A Good Story... Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. Let me tell you, Duncan is TOO good to be true! I wish my husband would have at least one romantic bone in his body. With all the carrying Duncan did with Madelyn, I sure got jelouse.
The only thing I didn't like in this or any other Historical Romance books, is how the authers make their heroins seem dumb when it come to the realization that she is pregnent. It's always the husbant who has to clue her in.
