Rating: Summary: MAGICAL!!! Review: If books can be fattening, then Moning's morsel is jam packed with tempting calories in the form of delectable words. I loved the previous 3 books in the series, but this one I adored. It had everything I could possibly look for in a romance novel ... a gorgeous sexy, dominant yet sensitive hero -- a pretty yet intelligent, sassy and brave heroine --sizzling chemistry between the two which leads to page-melting lusty sex -- lots of humor -- endearing secondary characters who I was genuinely interested in -- a great plot with lots of unpredictable twists and turns along with a surprise ending -- and magic that weaved an enchanting spell around me. Gwen and Drustan's story of enduring love is sure to keep the reader glued to the pages well into the wee hours of the morning. I just finished the book and am writing this review at 2:30 am. Proof enough! Thank's for the great read, Karen ... I can't wait for Daegus' story!
Rating: Summary: This book changed my mind about Time Travel Romances Review: My husband picked this book up for me while I was sick. I normally hate time travel romances, but because I was so bored from being sick for a week and my husband bought it for me I read it. I started the book and couldn't put it down. I read it straight through from beginning to end, the story captured me that well. Now I can't wait for "Dark Highlander" to come out so that I can read the continuation of Drustan & Gwen MacKeltar's story. Along with hopefully some more information on Drustan's twin, Dageus. Unfortunately it does not come out until fall of 2002, but I will still be able to enjoy Karen Marie Moning's work as my husband made me buy her other three books for my birthday. I will never ignore the delights that can be found in time travel romances again.
Rating: Summary: Can I Fall Down A Highland Ravine? Review: Karen Marie Moning is a write to make any woman swoon. He historical time traveling tales are breath taking...just like her men. I will say this, as a simple piece of advice, DON'T read all of her books back to back. It is a series, but it isn't. You DO NOT have to read them in any kind of order. However, if you read them back to back, the stories are VERY similar with slightly different twist and they may seem a bit redundant.I found Gwen, the main female, a little weak and ditsy in the beginning, but grew to like her towards the end. She is a brainy little thing who decides to take a trip to Scotland to "spice" up her life in search of a "cherry picker." Kinda sad, I know. When she stumbles, or rather fall, upon a sleeping Drustan from century's prior to hers. Not quite Alice in Wonderland. Without giving too much away and saying a whole lot at the same time, Gwen is FORCED to save Drustan's lineage, hence the time travel...with "help" of her own. Unfortunately, in Drustan's century, he doesn't know her and she has to make him remember. Sounds a little confusing, but THAT is what makes it a good story. DEFINITELY READ THE OTHERS!!!
Rating: Summary: Another wonderful highlander book Review: Well I must say the only thing I didn't like about this book was the lack of cover model. I mean Karen has a drop dead gorgeous hero and there is not picture to bring him to life. Oh well I did pretty good with her discriptions and my imagination. Ah those men in kilts! :-) This is another time travel book which I love. Gwen the heroine is a 25 yr old vigin that intends to find her"Cherry Picker" on a trip to Scotland. The only problem is that all her traveling companions are over sixty. She has accidently been placed on a senior citizen tour. Well on top of this she's trying to quit smoking! Anyway she decides to go off on her own for a hike near Loch Ness. She happens to fall down into a cave and onto the hunkiest man she's ever seen. He is laying there like he's dead and when she leans back to let the light shine on him while she is feeling his chest he awakens. Drustan, the hero, imediately gets aroused by her presence on his body and doesn't realize what has happened to him. He has slept for the last 500 years in that cave. He is a Druid lord who has special abilities and knowledge that must be protected. He must find his home. Well the trip there is wild. First Gwen must get him some new clothes. The scene with the jeans is not just sexually steamy but down right funny. I know I'll never look at men in jeans the same way again. Well they soon find his home is now just ruins and he knows that he must go back in time to save his family. They end up making love and binding themselves to each other before the spell. She is torn from Drustan and fears that he never made it. She end up back in his time and has to convince the Drustan of the past that she is there to help save his family. It takes quite a bit of convincing but when she finally does they realize that they love each other. But they have now changed the past and the future may not turn out like they planned. The secondary characters in this are wonderful. I loved nell and Silvan and can't wait for Drustan's brother's story. You will enjoy this book and I would recommend it and any of her other books as well.
Rating: Summary: It has its moments Review: This book was given to me by a friend, who knows of my love of historical romance novels. I doubt that I would have purchased it on my own, mainly for the time travel aspect of the novel. I'm glad I decided to read it though. After a little bit of a slow start in introducing Gwen and Drustan, I found myself spellbound (for lack of a better term) at certain parts. Regarding the "mystery" woven into the story, I felt that could have been padded up a little bit more. Adding some depth to the characters involved in that part of the story line certainly would have made this a better story. I will most likely pick up "The Dark Highlander", simply to see how the story resolves itself; however, I'm not sure I'll read any other of Moning's books after that. I just don't think the time travel aspect is for me. As far as writing ability, I believe Moning is a talented author, and given different subject matter, I would gladly pick up all of her books.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Read Review: First to the review who so cowardly remained anonymous and ripped into Ms Moning for stealing from Galbadon... you couldn't be further from the truth. Did you read either book? I have. Galbadon's books are fabulous, but much darker than Moning's. Kiss of the Highlander riveted me with its fully drawn characters, humorous situations, and intense romance. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Moning's work.
Rating: Summary: Quick-paced but funny... Review: This was the first book I've read by this author - I really enjoyed it. The main character, Gwen, is a strong female full of sass - she has no problem dealing with Druids, time travel, and a very sexy Scot. The issue of time travel was very well done - with a nice twist thrown in here and there (i.e. not the usual reincarnation plot). If you're looking for a quick read with some steamy sex and laughter, you'll enjoy this book. Be sure to check out the story about Durstan's brother - The Dark Highlander. I'm half-way through it now and it is just as good as the first story.
Rating: Summary: Perfection! Review: After reading hundreds of romance novels by countless authors, I can honestly say it doesn't get any better than this, folks! There are not enough words to express the perfection of this story. After my second readthrough, I am just as enchanted as I was initially. Karen Marie Moning has found the optimim blend of adventure, humor, love and passion that will captivate you from cover to cover, and have you thinking about it long after you're done. You cannot help but fall in love with the characters created in this book...main and supporting alike. Ms. Moning has shown her true genius in this genre by developing a tale that will have you eagerly turning the pages, revelling in it's creativity, giggling at it's humor, sighing at the romance, and panting at the passion! I have read all the books in this series, and whereas they all have their own specific charms, this is the book I will keep on the shelf for easy access and future reads. Can't wait for her long overdue next installment "The Immortal Highlander" scheduled to be out Summer 2004. Well done!
Rating: Summary: Best Read Yet!! Review: I have read all of Monings previous Highland books and have loved them all--but this has got to be the best!! I loved the characters Drustan and Gwen. Gwen was a more down to earth heroine, and Drustan--OOO-LA--LA!! The minute I put down "Kiss of the Highlander", I had to run right out and get "Dark Highlander". They definitely have to be read one right after the other--after all they are about twin brothers! You will not want to miss this one! It was one of the best books I have read in a long time!!
Rating: Summary: Terrific Package: Romance, Humor, Mystery, Excitement! Review: Modern day smart girl, Gwen, has had a dull life. So dull, she believes that at the age of 25, she is "the oldest living virgin." Ready to find some excitment, and hopefully some romance, she takes a tour of Scotland. Much to her disappointment, it turns out to be a Senior tour. Dismayed after days of riding in a bus with elderly people, Gwen takes a hike on her own. She searches the hills above the famous Lach Ness. Falling through a weak spot in the ground, Gwen lands inside a deep cavern... landing squarely on top of an unconcious man. He's handsome, powerfully built, and too her relief he is breathing. Unknowingly, she breaks the spell that has left him sleeping for 5 centuries. The last thing Drusten remembers, he was racing toward the Lach Ness, desperate to find his brother's killers. Now, he is waking in a dark cavern with a pretty lass sitting on him. Assuming she is a willing lass, he gladly welcomes her. When she quickly alerts him as to where they are, and how she got there, he releases his grip on her hips. He rises from the ground to dress himself, shocking Gwen as he arms himself with dozens of knives and an ax. His only clothing... a plaid and some chest armer. Drusten finds their way out of the cavern. He's enchanted by Gwen, and he plans to take her back to his castle. When they are within seeing distance of a local village, Drusten is shocked by what he sees. "What is that?" "A car." Drusten realizes he is far from his own time. He must get to his castle grounds and make sure that his clan is safe. In order to save his family name, and the history of the Druid blood, he must return to the 16th century. Without her knowing, Drusten plans to bring Gwen with him. Once the ritual is performed, Drusten realizes that fate will not allow him to stay with Gwen in the 16th century. Gwen is left to find the 16th century Drusten and convince him of the danger facing him, his clan, and his brother. It is not an easy task. 16th century Laird, Drusten, is not about to believe what this woman has to say. Still, as much as he hates to admit it, he is obsessed with her from first glance. What is this strange longing he has for her? Over the next month, Gwen pulls out all of the stops. She must convince this Drusten that she is telling the truth about the future. Drusten runs in circles to avoid having to face her. If Gwen gets too close, he won't be able to keep his betrothel to another woman. When Gwen breaks into his room, Drusten leaps out the bedroom window. When Gwen is in the hall, he sneaks out the back door. Finally, she figures out how to corner him... locking him in the bathroom in the middle of the night. Will he believe her story now? Can they change the future together? The love scenes are yummy! I like the couple a lot. They are both very intellegent, brave, and determined. The love between them is smoldering. You can't help feeling personally involved in their plight. There are a few places in the book where descriptions of surroundings were a bit long winded, but I just skimmed through those. The core story and characters where still excellent enough to make this book worthy of 5 stars. I love a romance book that makes me laugh often throughout the story. This book is filled with laughs, as well as plenty of conflict and mystery.
