Summary: Kiss of the Highlander
Review: I've read quite a few books that revolved around the 17th century and was curious to see how a 15th century character would be portrayed, and this book did not disappoint me. The characters are fiery and well-matched. I found myself reading into the early morning just to see how the story ends! I've also acquired the other books and read them all in one week! Each books holds its own in comparison to others, where the author seems to revise a previous story. I love that each character is separate and not another version. Bravo, Ms. Moning!

Summary: The kiss that revived the genre
Review: KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER as the precedent of the morbidly darker THE DARK HIGHLANDER has its fair share of charms which catapults time-travel romance author Karen Marie Moning to her well-deserved popularity. Interweaving intriguing time-travel elements culled from hypothesis of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawkings into this Scottish Highland romance judiciously lifts this novel beyond the standard fare.

Feisty physicist Gwen Cassidy on an introspective trip to Scotland Highlands discovers the preserved body of Drustan MacKelter - a 16th century warrior and descendent of the Irish Druids - and brings him miraculously to life. She reluctantly joins him on a time-travel journey through a sacred stone portal on the day of the equinox that turned awry.

Gwen has to save her soul-mate from the fate of being ambushed and drugged by a superstitious kinsfolk, unsuspecting that if the course of the past is changed with her successful rescue - they will have to part.

Ms. Moning as usual galvanizes with smoldering chemistry and passion between the two protagonists with the bawdy humour and smarts. KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER breathes life and emotions to the oft-confusing genre with focused narration, enlightening ideals and bouncy fun.

Summary: KISS ME!
Review: I read TO TAME A HIGHLAND WARRIOR, BEYOND THE HIGHLAND MIST, AND THE HIGHLANDER'S TOUCH. I thought, "Interesting. Different. Nice read." Not one to not finish a project/series, I progressed to KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER. From the first word, from the first page, to last word on the last page, I was INTO this story. I loved the humor, the sizzling sex, the characters, the dialogue, the twists, and the surprise ending. Unlike the other three books, I kept thinking, "Maybe this could really happen...could it happen to me...please?" Unlike the first three books, which took a while to "get off the ground," KISS hits the ground running from the first page -- the reader is immediately drawn into the story and the intrique. It is not necessary to read the first three books to understand KISS -- it stands on its own. Drustan MacKeltar...kiss ME!

Summary: Irresistible!!!
Review: This book was oh so perfect! I couldn't get it off my hands until it was over and that hasn't happened to me since I read the "Heart of the Condor" some time ago.
There is only one "flaw" in this book: it is not an original plot. I know most romance books tend to have many similarities in plot but in this case it is not just a similarity. Rather the plot is an exact replica of Jude Deveraux's all time classic "A knight in shining armor", which was written many years ago.
On the other hand, despite being a copy-cat (and thus the author can't be praised for her brilliant idea), it is a book that stands finely on its own and it's highly addictive!
The plot of the book is this: A modern woman named Gwen goes on a trip in the highlands in order to find her perfect man. She literally falls over him and manages to awaken the highland laird from an enchanted sleep. Although she is attracted to him, she can't believe that he is from the 16th century, but agrees to help him return to his family castle anyway. Drustan, gets to know some of the wonders of technology (car, jeans, etc) but is also very attracted by the innocent Gwen. When they reach the place where his castle was, they find only ruins. Drustan knows that he has to return to his century and make sure that the family line continues. The fact that Drustan is a druid adds an interesting twist in the book and is the only difference between this book and "Knight in shining armor". Before Drustan gets back to his time though, he falls in love with Gwen and she with him. But because of a mistake Drustan makes, Gwen finds herself in his century where she meets a Drustan who doesn't even remember her! Can Gwen alone save Drustan's life and thus his clan's family line? Can she find a way so that she and Drustan live happily ever after?
Though the answer in these questions is obvious, I guarantee you will have a wonderful time reading this book and not once regret buying it. I am now certainly going to buy "The Dark Highlander" and find out what happens with Drustan's brother, Dageus.
Also, if you haven't read "A knight in a shining armor" and you liked this book, go and order it right away. Even if their plot is the same, both authors are masterful story-tellers, each with her own style, and these books are among the best about time-travelling.

Summary: Funfilled romp in the heather
Review: Ok, I'm a sucker for a good Scottish romance - and this definitely qualifies. I did read one review that referenced the overuse of the cherry popping and I have to agree with that, but it also added a line of humor to the story. The sex theme is a little overused but the characters are fun, the Druid folklore interesting (if you don't mind a little supernatural thrown in - personally I like it) and then again I have a soft spot for any holy grail references and Knights Templar, however vague. This is a light, entertaining read, not meant to be deep and provocative. I enjoyed the characters (in spite of the heavy sexual content) and will read another of Ms. Moning's books.

Summary: Not my cup of tea, but it might be yours
Review: My first Moning book. I haven't decided if I will pick up the others yet. Rather than tell you a brief synopsis of the story, let me go into detail as to why I rated this as I did.

The book lost one star for a very vulgar heroine (for lack of a better term). She's an oversexed virgin who basically went to Scotland to 'get her cherry popped', as she states repeatedly in the book. She spends the first part of the story running amok in scanty clothing that the author describes in great detail, and it goes downhill from there. Gwen's personality is grating as well, and she's overall very hard to relate to.

The book lost it's second star as the story progressed. Oh sure, I can overlook the horde of curse-loving gypsies at the beginning that prompts the 'time-travel' scenario, but when burly Drustan (hero of the story) turned out to be the last of a line of Druids, the corniness snowballs from there. Now, you might like gypsies and druids and hocus-pocus in your otherwise perfectly normal time-travel romance, but I do not. Sounds silly, I know, but again, just a matter of opinion.

Moning otherwise seems to be a fairly competent author. Characterization was lacking, and some of the vocabulary was stiff, but I found myself smiling at a few of the jokes, and the story was well written despite the constant deluge of thong references. Again, this was just a matter of personal taste. If you're looking for very light-hearted reading and don't mind some overly-modern and sometimes crass descriptions, you might just enjoy this.

Summary: A fresh new approach
Review: This book made me laugh hysterically through the first few chapters. Gwen's reactions are exactly what could be expected of a twenty first century woman being confronted by a Scottish laird from the 17th century. Very funny. Great male and female characters.

Summary: Outstanding!!
Review: What a fun book! I thoroughly enjoyed this book because it was steamy without just being a sex romp and also contained quite a bit of humor. I love books that make me laugh out loud. When I finished it I could not wait to read the sequel. Another thing that I liked about it is that it has a secondary romance going on in the background with two other people who you are just as anxious to see get together as the hero and heroine. I have heard this book compared to Gabaldon's Outlander and you just cannot compare them. They are totally different kinds of books. Outlander is fantastic but much more involved, which is good but I would not want to read a book that is that involved all the time. This book is just deep enough and you absolutely fly through the pages. I have read it twice now and down the road would not hesitate to go for a third time!
