Rating: Summary: It left me drained!! Review: I enjoy early English/Irish/Scots historical romances so this was a little bit of a stretch in terms of 'my type of book.' However, I think after this wonderful book, I will expand my horizons and book choices. This book got off to a bit of a slow start -- the Highlander is rather a chauvinist pig, after all -- but all of a sudden, WOW! Before it was over, I laughed, I cried, I was shocked (no small feat, I might add) and I was delighted. It took my breath away and left me drained. I could only sit there, finished book in hand and breathe deeply. I'll be hunting for more from this author!!!
Rating: Summary: This Book Is The Bomb Review: If you are a lover of ime travelling books and Scottish Romances, you are in for a marvellous read. The characters and situations are well developed and the romance is sizzling. I would also recommend this book to anyone who wants a good laugh, and an all round good reading experience. If you are a first time Karen Moning reader, this is the book to begin with. And guess what - the second part to "Kiss of the Highlander" - "The Dark Highlander"- comes out the 1st of October!! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Amusing but terribly written Review: I like lighter TT romances, really. I love Lynn Kurland. But this book has some problems, most of which have been mentioned by others here. It's full of anacronisms, which can be spotted almost every other page. The hero thinks in terms which are centuries from being invented. The heroine is very unreal, screwed up because her family are scientists (who are of course all unfeeling, all unemotional - where are these messed up freaks of nature - I'm a scientist and I've yet to meet any). She is also incredibly crude. Men and sex are described in the most vulgar terms (but of course the hero is a 90's kind of 16th c guy so he doesn't return the favor). And yet parts are funny in a screwball kind of way. This book reminds me of Dara Joy's High Energy in its humor, so people who liked that may like this. But fans of history and coherence beware.
Rating: Summary: I LOOOOVE this book! Review: Oh my, Oh my, Oh my....Girls...don't miss this one! Okay...so this book wasnt nearly as intense as "Outlander" (Which just happens to be my favorite book) but who cares?! "Kiss of the Highlander" was excellent in its own right! I absolutely could not tear myself away from this story...Could Drustan be any sexier? While I'll admit that Gwen was a bit annoying at times, in the end I loved her anyway...What a wonderfully romantic story!...By the time I was finished I had experienced emotions from bursting happiness to complete frustration..Oh and I was left soooo satisfied with its outcome! DEFINITELY a MUST READ!
Rating: Summary: Quite possibly, the worst book I have ever picked up. Review: I had such high hopes for this book. I am a huge Diana Gabaldon fan, and am not above a trashy romance either. I thoroughly enjoyed Julie Garwood's The Bride along with several Judith McNaught novels, but this one was so bad I couldn't get past the third chapter. What prose "..her Jennifer Aniston bangs", "He looked like he'd just walked out of a Gold's Gym" BLECH!! Not to mention vulgar. If I had to listen to her describe her ultimate man as a "cherry-picker" one more time I thought I'd puke. How anyone could describe her as intelligent is beyond me. All I could think of was if she was so hot to lose her virginity, it really couldn't have been that hard to do back home in the USA. Give me a break! I bought this at our local used book store and was so impressed that it looked brand new, like it had never been read. Likely the previous owner couldn't tolerate the poor writing anymore than I could. I'm only glad I only wasted 2.99 on it instead of the full cover price plus shipping! If you want to read a REALLY good time-travel to Scotland book, pick up the Outlander series. If you already have read Outlander, you won't be able to stomach this book.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: Didn't know what I was getting. Ordered all 4 books at once. Reviews and excerpt sounded good. BINGO, great reads. If you like Lindsey, Roberts, Garwood, Deveraux, Small, Joyce, Quick or any historical romances, these are for you.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: Just discovered Ms. Moning. Bought all 4 books in one shot. Great reading. All 4 were great, can't wait for more. Looking forward to it too.
Rating: Summary: Kiss of the Highlander Review: This book is one of the best out of many I have read. It pulls you in and keeps you wanting more. The ending is both suspenceful and heart pounding. I found this an extrodinary book.
Rating: Summary: Sleeping Beauty in a Kilt Review: The writer gives us a different twist on the Sleeping Beauty story, with the virginal though nicotine impaired heroine from our times actually falling through a rabbit hole into a real Adventure in Wonderland. Events conspire to span centuries of time for the gigantic and wickedly handsome god in a kilt to meet the beautifully petite, smart, lonely and misunderstood Gwen. Misunderstandings abound as the duo determine how to fix the future and the past, and the chemistry actually jumps off the pages as the pressure builds. Lusty (to say the very LEAST) but also cleverly written, excellent characterization and a wonderful sense of setting all come together for an excellent escape from reality. My only disappointment? The rather ginghamy looking "plaid" on the cover - obviously the cover art was not as well researched as the book.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Moning has the kiss of genius in her prose! Review: In this finely detailed time travel romance, Karen Marie Moning has catapulted herself onto my auto-buy list. The plot is a neat series of twists and turns; although I could generally predict where it was going, I still marveled at Ms. Moning's adeptness to shrewdly plot a novel that would be exceptional in any genre. Time travel is a hazy, surreal concept at the best of times. It's a real coupe for the author therefore that "Kiss of the Highlander" is able to discard the haziness of disbelief for a reader's willing acceptance of such marvels. As a physicist, Gwen is hardly a gullible heroine. It takes some complicated thinking for her to justify the existence of time travel. Drustan, on the other hand, is gifted with a Druid's insight. He's still reluctant to believe Gwen's story, however, and mistakenly believes her to be a touch soft in the head. The dear man is woefully mistaken, of course, and will learn the folly of such thinking in due time. Humor enhances the budding storyline with a delectably wry wit; misconceptions are but kindling for the flames. In no way is Gwen and Drustan's attraction to each other diluted. Having traveled to Scotland to find her 'cherry picker,' Gwen finds a 'cherry tree chopper-downer' instead. Drustan also has a mighty intellect to match his mightily appealing -- all right, drop dead gorgeous -- body. Aye, Gwen and Drustan are definitely soul mates, but what are they to do about it? "Kiss of the Highlander" will weave an enchantment around a reader. It has much to recommend it: Characters who breathe life into the pages, a plot with nary a whole in it, and a sizzling chemistry between Gwen and Drustan that's positively kinetic. I'm waiting with bated breath for the sequel to this novel. Ms. Moning has the kiss of genius in her prose!
