Summary: Kept me on the edge of my seat...
Review: Linda Howard's Dream Man is a novel of romantic suspense. And let me tell you, that she fulfills every aspect of the genre "romantic suspense".

In the novel, the Dream Man, Marlie Keen is an empath who is able to see through the murderer's eyes while he kills his victims. She is so sensitive she is able to receive/feel electrical signals that radiate from the murderer like a 1000 watt light bulb. She has been "sensitive" all her life, but her skills have become dormant for the last six years. Suddenly after a movie she is bombarded with a terrible scene of a hacking murder.

Unfortunately, she is received with skepticism when she trys to go to the police with her help. More specifically, Detective Dane Hollister. To him, she is just a kook psychic who is bent on getting publicity. But that's not the case, as Dane and Marlie continue to spend more and more time together, he realizes that her visions are real, because he's right there with her as she continues to have her visions.

The suspense in this novel is top rate, five star. I couldn't put the book down. The murderer and the way he carefully carries out his crimes, was absolutely spine chilling and captivating.

The romance was wonderful, but could have been improved. Especially the personal/mental relationship between Marlie and Dane. Don't get me wrong here, the physical side seemed great, but the personal was underdeveloped. I mean he moved in with her a week after they met. Questionable? And the book focuses more on the murder than the romance, which doesn't help them to develop their relationship.

Recommended. Definately.

Summary: DREAM OF A BOOK
Review: Once again I have to say I LOVE Linda Howard's books so this review will be slightly prejudiced because I think she can do no wrong. Great story and interesting characters. If you like macho men (but with a touch of tenderness) you will love the hero. Even though you know what's going to happen early on, it is worth the read. KEEPER (like all of LH's books).

Summary: she's done it again!
Review: Having been introduced by a cousin to Linda Howard's writing in 1998,I've been scouring the local libraries for any form of her work. However "Dream Man" was the first book I actually bought myself and I'm pleased to say I was not disappointed. Initially, I was a bit skeptical of Marlie's clairvoyant abilities just as I was apprenhensive about Sweeny's 'unnatural' powers in "Now You See Her" but Ms. Howard is such a masterful writer, that you get pulled into the romance and sensuality of the novel, forget all inhibitons and flow with her train of thought. Dane and Marlie's love story is not one to be missed! I recommend you go out and get it as soon as possible I assure you , you wont be able to put it down.

Summary: It was Simply O.K.
Review: I have recently started reading Linda HOward books and the first book I read was really good and I rushed out and bought about ten of her books. So far out of the ten I have read Now you see her and the All the Queen's men which I really enjoyed reading. Then I read A game of Chance which I could barely read and found myself skipping a lot of part; which brings me to This book. A Dream Man and I have to say that I didn't enjoy it very much. The characters were not very charismatic and the plot was very predictable. When I read I want to love who I am reading about and found the character of Marlie to be a bit on the boring side. I want a leading man to make me fall in love with him and the character of Dane left a lot ot be desired. I am no feminist by any means, but I constantly hated the way Linda Howard described him to be. And his Constant use of the word babe just reminded me of a beer drinking and burping kind of guy. If you want a main character to fall in love with try reading Judith McNaugh'ts : Paradise which is more than great, as well as Once and ALways, Whitney My Love, Double Standards, and there is so many more. She is truly a great author. I hope that the next linda HOward book I read I reallylove. So far that is 4 out of ten.

Summary: Suspenseful & Good !
Review: "Dream Man" is really a good book. I finished this book so quick, because it was so good.

The killer is really smart and so very evil. He kills women that he thinks that deserve a punishment. The killer totally hacks at women's bodies and he leaves no evidence for the police to find out about him. Luckily Marlie Keen, the psychic, can see what he's seeing, feel what he's feeling. Marlie reports it to the police. At first they don't believe her, they even believe SHE committed the murders. But slowly she proves her point.

Then there is the Detective Dane Hollister, who's really attracting. They're both attracted to each other and they feel passion and more for each other.

But Dane and Marlie are in a dangerous situation, because the killer could strike very closely to them and who knows what would happen...

This is the first time I read a book by Linda Howard. But deffinitely not the last. I think this book is suspenseful and a little bit on the cunning side.

Summary: It's a good book, but not her best work
Review: When I first started reading this book, I was intrigued to see how it played out. But as I went along, and the two characters met up for the first time, I felt the cheese factor begin to rise. I have never heard of a man getting ... ahem ... "rock hard" the instant he sees a woman. (Or, perhaps, I just live in too conservative a town.) Dane and Marlie never made a big splash with me. Separately, they were good characters. Together they just didn't mesh. However, the villian of this book is perfectly terrifying and that kept me going page after page. As another reviewer pointed out, "All The Queen's Men" is a much better read. If you are a first time Linda Howard reader, try it instead of this one.

Summary: Not her best, I feel...
Review: Linda Howard is the only writer in the romance genre that I read, because of her complex characters and excellent subplots. The action and romance are sizzling, and this is why she is one of my favorite writers. I've read almost all of her later books. I found that the relationship between the two characters, Dane and Marlie, was unbelievable and I didn't understand the attraction between them. I felt the hero was not well developed and didn't see any chemistry between he and the heroine.

The suspense in Dream Man held me more than the romance did, but because Linda Howard is such a great storyteller I was glued. I enjoyed All The Queen's Men much better.

Summary: Ugh, yuck.
Review: A vivid description of love scenes is nice. However, a thorough account of the travails of the "head" of anyone's *anything* is more than I needed to know. (Or maybe that particular phrasing was only in Howard's "After The Night." Either way, both books had unduly rough, uncaring and unskilled sexual encounters that weren't enjoyable to read about.) In "Dream Man", the heroine is a passive, trembling flower most of the time and her love interest is a presumptuous, low-class conniver. What a charming couple. Finally, several sections of the book just didn't seem to add much of anything to the story. They seemed to have been tossed in there for "color" but were just irrelevant. Save your time and money.

Summary: TERRIFIC!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I read it in one day which is fast for me. While I usually don't like books about psychics, this one was very acceptable You will not get bored with this one, great from the very beginning. Marni feels what a serial killer is thinking and doing. When a woman is murdered and there are no witnesses or clues, she comes forward. She cannot describe what the killer looks like as she is seeing the events through the killers' eyes. Dane, a detective investigating this case does not believe Marni's abilities but before long cannot dispute the fact that she knows too many details that were not released to the public. While at the beginning he thinks she is in some way connected to the first killing, he comes to realize her abilities are not fake. The attraction between the two is outstanding. He finds himself falling in love with her and feels it his duty to protect her from all harm and help her through her nightmares when the killer strikes again. Only in books can you find a dream man like Dane. Great storyline without making the lead characters exasperating, ie., he/she loves me, he/she loves me not. This is my first Linda Howard, what I fool I was not to have picked her books up before.

Summary: DREAM MAN IS A LETHAL MIX OF SUSPENSE AND ROMANCE
Review: DREAM MAN is one book by LINDA HOWARD that fans endear themselves to and confirms her status as a top-notch suspense writer. Her heroine Marlie Keen, no short of stoic and resilient possesses psychic powers and images of grisly murder have unfortunately resurfaced since six years of solitary isolation after her close shave with a serial killer,Green. Dane Hollister, a cop who believes she is a charlatan, is nevertheless curious about Marlie. His overwhelming protection towards her is unfathomable, and ultimately a deep and abiding love takes charge of him as they fight together to solve the serial murders.

My reviews cannot possibly justify the magnificence of this book. It is chockful of gritty suspense and her narrative - so powerful and luminous - is like a movie screen unfurling in front of your eyes. The emotions stirred by MS. Howard's vivid descriptions is no less real and cutting. Marlie is the kind of heroine who is vulnerable yet intelligent perfect for an obstinate yet passionate cop like Dane. DREAM MAN takes a surreal realm in describing the morbid murders, which is dark and harrowing. The romance element is gratifying and convincing.

DREAM MAN is all heartfelt passion and desire and provides a glimpse of the lives of dedicated policemen. With a dash of romance and suspense, it is certainly one book that is no short of spellbinding.
