Rating: Summary: A Beatiful, Romantic Story Review: This was such a great read. After reading some mixed reviews, I wasn't sure about this latest from Kleypas, but I wasn't disappointed. Lady Sophia's Lover is a beautiful story with lovable characters, and a wonderful romance. After her brother dies in prison, Sophia is devastated. She is determined to get revenge on the magistrate who sent him to prison in the first place: Sir Ross Cannon. She gets a job as his assistant with the intention of ruining him. However, as she gets to know him, she discovers that Ross is a kind, caring person who has an inate sense of fairness that is conflicting with what she had thought. There is a growing attraction between the two along with a mutual respect. They both have their own demons to battle, and they need each other to conquer them. I liked Sophia. She has had a difficult life and has every reason to want revenge but as she gets to know Ross, she sees that he is a compassionate, fair man with a deep sense of honor. She is not so bitter that she cannot see that he wouldn't wrongfully send someone to prison. She is able to question what she first believed to be true, and see that there could be a different side. And I just loved Ross. He is just a great guy. He is not an aristocrat but a self-made man who has worked very hard to get where he is, and he acts with honor and dignity in his job and life. He puts impossible standards on himself, and he needs Sophia to make him realize that he is just a man, and not superhuman. Lisa Kleypas always writes a beautiful love story, and this one is no exception. I absolutely loved it.
Rating: Summary: So So Review: I am a big fan of LK; however, I found her latest novel was rather mediocre. It lacked creativity and was predictable. I usually enjoy all her books and I hope her next one lives up to her past novels.
Rating: Summary: Slow Start - Fast Finish Review: I must disagree with the last few reviews on this book. It definitely holds your interest! Yes, I am a Lisa Kleypas fan but if it were not up to her usual standards of excellence, I would rate it lower. BUT - this is another fine example of the talented wordsmith. Lady Sophia approached Sir Ross Cannon, the Monk of Bow Street, prepared to destroy him and all he held dear. She blamed him for her brothers death and her intentions were to ruin him both professionally and personally. It wasn't long until she discovered for herself that the rumours were not who the man really was. She found to her dismay that it was most difficult to hate and despise a man whom she had unwittingly become attracted to and was essentially fair and good. Lord Ross, thought never to fall in love again, but the very cool and intelligent Lady who talked him into hiring her as his Bow Street assistant, was someone who made him feel more than human again. Who made him want to live for something other than work. The sensual love scenes and hot sizzling sex are just some of the reasons this book is so good. The character development is extremely good and the secondary characters added much to the depth of this story. Great work! I highly enjoyed this and definitely would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Kleypas loosing her touch... Review: THis book like her most recent books lack that "something" that makes a romance reader cry, laugh, and basically go through all the tortures along with its characters. This new book by kleypas was mildly warm! I had trouble finishing it. Why? There was no mystery and no passion that can be detected in the book. The characters relationship was lukewarm and predictable. Also, there was nothing gut wrenching at all about the characters. If you want the best kleypas book, read "Dreaming of you" and you'll crying throughout the book. This book was just plain trite! Also, the sex scenes were terrible, I actually yawned when they were "doing it". Boring!
Rating: Summary: Did not hold my interest Review: Usually I love anything by Lisa Klepas, but her most recent book, "Lady Sophia's Lover" did not even hold my interest long enough for me to bother finishing the book.
Rating: Summary: justareadernowafan Review: I had never read this author before. I have always been interested in Bow Street but hadn't read anything on it in years. The best parts of the book were those pertaining to Nick Gentry. Its always amazing to me how often supporting characters are far more interesting than the main characters. Its as if the authors never read their own work. How the "heroine" could be so spineless when her lover said he couldn't nor wouldn't save her brother from the gallows when it was he who was responsible in the first place for what her brother turned into. And then the way he treated her brother. They both made me sick. I hope the author writes her next book about Nick. That should be very interesting if the author doesn't blow it (skip the love story).
Rating: Summary: The Bow Street Runner Series Review: What a wonderful book. I love how the Bow Street runners are explained by LK and how they are made to be human. As they are mentioned in many different books and I had never heard their ranks explained this was a facinating book. I also like how she brings up Grant Morgan a few times in this book also, on the heels of his own story. This story starts out as the tale of revenge by Lady Sophia, and her quest to revenge her brothers death. But along the way she finds it harder and harder to think in terms of revenge as she sees the Bow Street offices and house work. She is even hired on as an assistant. She becomes more and more attracted to Ross and is no longer able to be completely rational. At the same time there is a mystery with the "outlaw" Nick Gentry that is entertwined along with the rest of the story. Great Book!
Rating: Summary: Not her best Review: I'm a great fan of Lisa Kleypas. I eagerly await her books, but although this book was okay. It didn't measure up to some of her previous books. I was a little disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but predictable... Review: I won't go into the details of the story, since most of you would have already read the summary or the comments listed by other reviewers. I found Lady Sophia's Lover alittle too predicable and disappointing. This was the first time I read a Lisa Kleypas' book and found it to be like among the other romance authors, a bit of fluff. Why do all the heriones have to be ladies of nobility fallen on bad times? Why can't they actually be a servant or pauper? Commoners not good enough to have romance with nobility? I know, I'm just rambling. Also, I found the sexual romance a bit too graphic for my taste. I hate it when romance authors refer to the male's anatomy as... use manhood or something! The story starts to sound like a porn - especially when you read some of the parts - wet sounds and stuff. I won't go any further than that. But you get my drift. I guess I was just looking for more tension or for the herione not fall so easily in love with the hero. Also, Nick Gentry, Lady Sophia's brother, could warrant his own book. All in all, Lisa does have talent for writing and she kept me entertained on the bart for a while. Would I buy another one of her books? Maybe, maybe not. Michelle Harris
Rating: Summary: Not Predictable Review: Did you ever read a romance novel that was so predictable it was difficult to keep going? This isn't one of those. When you think that the plot is going to go the typical direction, it doesn't. I love that! It saves a lot of unnecessary heartache. This is a wonderful book. There's plot, sexual tension and true love. Although I did anticipate what would turn out to be the heroine's major dilemma early on, that too did not go the predictable way. If you like a romance that has a story line that's a little out of the ordinary, and if you like them HOT, buy this book!
