Rating: Summary: Solid Kleypas! Review: Kleypas is hit and miss in her novels. I did enjoy the prequel to this romance, Someone to Watch Over Me, with the bow street runner and the misidentified prostitute he takes under his wing, and I was intrigued by Sir Ross Cannon back in that novel. So it was wonderful and gratifying that Ross got his own romance in this novel, and lived up to it fully. He is a mature yet sensual male, a realistic fantasy lover. I like the fact that he is older than the average romance hero, too! The story was compelling, though I too guessed the outcome. I would have to agree with the reader who criticized the overabundance and sometimes over-the-top sex scenes. Some of them made me laugh uncomfortably, though I like the exercise seat love scene in the empty house... I got the feeling Kleypas is trying to push the envelope but got a bit too pushy. Less frequent but more expansive sensual scene would be more enjoyable. I hope she will develop a novel with Nick Gentry as the hero with the dark past, one that will introduce the usual stormy tension that was conspicuously absent here, but still afforded a quality romance for these two lovers!
Rating: Summary: Not Her Best Review: The premise of this story was great..but after couple of chapters, I found myself bored, thus skimming looking for any of the usually excellent qualities that lead me to instantly purchase a Kleypas book--dialogue, sympathetic h/h etc etc... I was greatly disappointed..and sad. I am crossing my fingers that the next book will be better!
Rating: Summary: Suddenly You was better. Review: This book was not as well written or developed as "Suddenly You." The characters were unsympathetic. Why did the heroine gratuitously have a previous lover, who was a loser? It didn't help the storyline or the characters' development. Only made the heroine seem stupid and naive.
Rating: Summary: No longer an auto-buy Review: Lisa Kleypas has long been one of my favorite authors. She writes nicely plotted stories with well-drawn characters, and has always written wonderfully sensuous love scenes. Lady Sophia's Lover is no exception. Except...Good grief, girl, enough is enough! When the love scenes become gratuitous and pointless they become embarrassing and boring. When a reader finds herself laughing aloud, or worse, flipping through yet another love scene, you stand to alienate the very people who have put you on the New York Times Best Seller list. I love a nicely written love scene, and Lisa Kleypas is one of the best romance authors out there. But when it becomes pure sex---when pushing the envelope becomes more important than advancing the story---the loves scenes are ridiculous and a waste of ink. Please, please don't forget what makes a great romance book. It's the romance!!
Rating: Summary: A really great read... Review: I really enjoyed this book and the best part was the hero. For once I enjoyed reading about a man who has principles, yet is overwhelmingly sexy and sensual. I found this book a bit more erotic than "suddenly you" and Lisa did not disappoint or skimp on the love scenes. The story starts with Sophia applying for employment as Ross's assistant. (Ross is a highly thought of magistrate) She has a motive to do so because she thinks Ross jailed her brother and ultimately caused his "death". She wants to seduce him into falling in love with her then break his heart. At first she can't stand him or his touch but slowly finds out that Ross is not the fiend she once invisioned him as being. Ross is reluctant to hire Sophia because of the chemistry he feels with her, plus the fact that she is a woman. As they settle into a routine, the sensual energy these two give off cannot be denied and they both fall for one another. There are other surprises as well but telling would give away the story. I highly recommend this book if you want to read a great sexy romance that keeps you captivated from beginning to end.
Rating: Summary: Hot and Wonderful Review: I have read all of Ms Kleypas' books and have enjoyed all of them. This is my favorite. Ross and Sophia are a perfect match from the beginning. The secondary characters are also wonderful and I hope Ms. Kleypas will write stories for Dr. Linley and Sophia's brother.
Rating: Summary: This was not one of the better books by Kleypas Review: This book started strongly and I was ready to really enjoy a new Kleypas novel. But, it went downhill quickly. The writing was as good as usual, but the story had almost no conflict or tension. It was basically a simple love story where two people meet and fall in love. While I'm happy for the characters, I expect a little more from such an excellent author.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Worth the wait. Review: I have only read a few of Lisa Kleypas' books, but this one is definitely going on my keeper shelf. This book was well-written, fast-paced, and, while I could have done with out the whole brother/bad guy thing, a great plot. I have been eagerly awaiting Ross Cannon's story and Kleypas certainly met my expectations. I enjoyed Sophia as a strong, capable woman, thankfully free from the general concerns of society's daily influence and Sir Ross's inability to keep his hands off of Sophia was very entertaining. While I guessed the reason for Nick Gentry's presence in the book from the first and was unsurprised as the story unfolded, he was not a distraction as the interaction of Sophia and Ross was intriguing. I have several favorite scenes in the book, but one of the best was Sophia's former lover getting his from Sir Ross! Oh, to have a man like that on my side! I thoroughly enjoyed this book (and finished it in only a few hours) and I encourage you to get a copy.
Rating: Summary: Almost as good as it gets Review: I discovered the talents of Lisa Kleypas last fall when I picked up "Suddenly You". After reading that jewel, I quickly bought and read all her novels I could find. She is easily one of my favorite authors. It was with eager anticipation that I waited for "Lady Sofia's Lover" to be released; I have to say, I was not totally disappointed. It was interesting to see the ways Kleypas expanded Sir Ross's since his introduction in "Someone To Watch Over Me"; showing us his concerns and emotions that crack the rock like public persona he presents. She has evolved him into a very likeable character, one you could as easily see yourself seeking out for advice as you would seek him out for pleasure. The character of Lady Sophia was well created. Sensuous, yet vulnerable, she brings an aura of softness into the hardened criminal world that surrounds Bow Street. She is not without faults and struggles against them throughout. My only problem with the book, and the only reason I gave it 4 stars, is the hasty ending. It seems to wrap up very quickly, leaving many things unanswered. Simplifying the ending doesn't seem fitting for the complex characters and story line Ms. Kleypas crafted for our enjoyment.
Rating: Summary: This is the 1st book of kleypas that I have read Review: I really enjoyed it and thought it was a 5 star book. I have not read any of her others to judge it against them, but I am going to remedy that and go back and read her past books. The only thing I would have changed about the book, is that in the epilogue I wish she told us what happened with Nick Gentry (I hope she is planning to write about him and another book on the doctor.
