Rating: Summary: Sensual and Hot! Review: I have read every Lisa Kleypas books and this is one of the best -- more sensual than the rest and brings back a beloved character from a previous book (Morgan Grant). I love the Bow Street Runner characters -- and it looks like she might do another one featuring the doctor from this book -- I hope so! The sensuality is a little more daring in this book than her others.
Rating: Summary: Kleypas Does It Again! Review: Ever since I read "Dreaming of You", Ms. Kleypas has enriched the Victorian Age romance with stories that display heat and passion. I often buy my books from used books stores so trust me when the cashier said that this book was over seven dollars I hoped with all my might that it would be perfect. I was not disappointed.Ms. Kleypas once again blends a simple romance and complex plots twist into a story that one can read again and again. I had forgotten that Ms. Kleypas had plan a sequel for her Bow Street runners and now I hope that she supplies more stories about these real life historical figures. Don't miss out on this book it is a great all night read! I only have one other comment though, what happen to Sir Ross' fat cat that he kept in his office?
Rating: Summary: a keeper Review: Ms. Kleypas has done it again -- given us a hero and heroine wrought with personal demons and flaws, yet undeniably perfect for one another. This was one of the most emotionally solvent romance novels I have read in quite a while; truly this is Ms. Kleypas at her finest. I enjoyed the self-examination and introspection that powered the story, and the passion between Sophia and Ross was especially evocative. Like many others, I am now waiting with breathless anticipation for Nick's tale. Even if you are not a fan of Regency era novels, I encourage you to purchase "Lady Sophia's Lover" -- I do not think you will be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Really Good Book, Review: I have really enjoyed this book. It has a refreshing story line. The characters are believable and real. It draws you into the story and you feel what the characters feel. This book is really good and hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Not the best Lisa Kleypas book Review: I am a major fan of Lisa Kleypas, and like others were disappointed with Suddenly You. I was equally disappointed with Lady Sophia's Lover. The plotline had great possibilities, but the characters were not given enough thought. Sophia fell in love too easily and Ross seemed to only want sex. Speaking of which, I found the sex a little too graphic for my taste. It felt more like a porno read than a romance. I don't mind the sex, it just needs to further the romance, not be gratuitous. I also missed out on my favorite romance plot device - the heroine getting in trouble and the hero rushing in to save. Even the standard plot devices such as the hero getting sick and being nursed and an unexpected pregnancy did nothing to further the romance. Overall, I wish the plot would have been supported by a believable romance, instead of an excuse to write graphic sex scenes. Please leave a little to the imagination! It's why I read them in the first place!
Rating: Summary: Not worth the wait Review: I can't believe this is the same author who wrote Dreaming of You,Because Your Mine,Only With Your Love. What has happened to the Lisa Kleypas we loved to read? This book was not only boring and predictable it was just plain stupid! The main characters of Ross and Sophia don't even come close to the depth of her previous books. Compare Ross Cannon to Derek Craven or Max Vallerand? Not even close. I think Ms. Kleypas wrote this book on autopilot and has certainly disappointed more than a few of her readers.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent Kleypas read Review: Unlike the meandering tone of many Regency romances, Kleypas keeps true to her characters (many of whom reoccur throughout her books)and their mileau, wihout excessive decriptives and dialogue about fripperies! This is a wholly satisfying book, that you'll want to read in one sitting. It is better, in fact, than the preceding novel that links to it (Someone To Watch Over Me) - and you don't need to read one to read the other, though I'd certainly recommend both.
Rating: Summary: Better than 5 stars Review: Lady Sophia's Lover keeps one's fascinated interest from beginning to end. The plot is one of the most creative and unusual that Kleypas has written. The characterization is extremely well done while the very descriptive intimate love scenes superbly enhance the story instead of backsliding into straight [adult films] such as a few of our well-known authors persist in doing. The tension between the two main characters is kept at fever pitch throughout. The details of the story are not overwhelming, like going on for pages and pages, nor is the dialog boring but to the point. After reading more popular author's plotless pornos interspersed with many pages of "sparkling dirty repartee", Lisa's book is a very, very refreshing, can't put down read! It is a KEEPER!! It is really a 10 star but there isn't any such animal!!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, But Not What I Hoped.... Review: I will start off by saying that the only other Lisa Kleypas book I've read is "Suddenly You," which I picked up on a whim and was greatly surprised by how fun it was. I hoped, when I started reading her new book, "Lady Sophia's Lover," I would be treated to the same kind of surprising turn-about of character depiction and non-formulaic story line. Well, not necessarily so. There is such a proliferation of romance novels centered on Regency and early-Victorian England's upper class citizens, it's almost impossible to find one worth reading, one that captures a facet that hasn't been written about, ad naseum. That's what was special about "Suddenly You" and what I hoped to find with "Lady Sophia's Lover." Unfortunately, this effort just misses the mark. Ms. Kleypas starts off with interesting sympathetic characters who become wooden at story's end. I knew the eventual outcome long before I finished the second chapter. I do admire Ms. Kleypas in her desire to give us characters that are on the fringe of the "ton," and I hope she will continue in her efforts. This is not a bad book. But, between the two stories I have read, I say "Suddenly You" is better.
Rating: Summary: Lisa Kleypas's latest book worth waiting for Review: As with all her books this one was an enjoyable read. Her victorian era characters were interesting and for a change they had jobs. It was also refreshing not to be subjected to the typical virgin or the victorian male's obsession with being the first. The love scenes were typical Kleypas, well written and sensous. I enjoyed reading about the "Bow Street Runners"(there aren't too many books out there about them). I especially like getting to know the characters of the future books (Hopefully Mr Gentry) and reading about characters from previous books. This book was well worth the wait.
