Rating: Summary: A Real Good Read! Review: I really liked this book It is the first Woodiwiss book ive read.. The story line was different from many ive read so far.. an it was a nice potrayal of Shakespear's "Taming of the shrew"...But one thing i dont like in the book was the fact that shanna was sooooo undyingly beautiful was a lil' hard to believe.... It kinda shows that Ruark went after her looks and not her sprit or her character.. But ignoring that flaw..the book is truly a GOOD READ
Rating: Summary: The best of Kathleen Woodiwiss Review: Kathleen Woodiwiss at her finest. This is by far the best and most romantic historical fiction ever written. My all time personal favorite of hers! I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
Rating: Summary: An ageless classic! Review: Though decidedly a romance novel, _Shanna_ is a story about much more than love. Teeming with adventure, danger, mystery, murder and pirates, the plot twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You'll be hard pressed to resist the pull of this intricately woven story. The scenery is described in such vivid and perfect detail it's as if it becomes part of you. Ms. Woodiwiss again demonstrates the reason she is such a well loved author. The characters are well written and seem to come to life. Shanna dreams for the perfect man while Ruark tries to prove to her what she really wants is him. Though Shanna is loathe to admit it, she falls in love with him soon after they meet. This is quite obvious when even though she shuns his love, she fumes in jealous rage when any other woman shows interest in him. Both of these characters have volatile tempers and as these tempers meet and clash, sparks fly from the pages You'll find yourself laughing out loud at the names Shanna bestows upon Ruark. Shanna grows up gradually through the book and you are pleased at her transition from spoiled, selfish brat, to loving, caring, passionate woman. Ruark is a man any woman would love and you admire his resolve as he clings to the hope that one day Shanna will be his. _Shanna_ is a well rounded story with just the right amount of romance and adventure to keep it interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone wanting a glimpse of Ms. Woodiwiss' writing at it's best.
Rating: Summary: Great Love Story Review: This is one of the best romance stories I have read, KW's flowery prose transports you to the time and place.Great Story
Rating: Summary: Romance at its Best Review: This author is the frist romance writer I read. And I have been buying her books every since. I purchased this book when it first came out, and have read and re-read it at least once a year since then. I have this original book and have purchased two more books because I have re-read it so much that the book pages are coming out, and they are frayed and worn. I recommend this book to anyone very highly.
Rating: Summary: Shanna Review: This is the best book of it's genre that I have ever read. It is intended as an escape from a normal ho-hum life and it delivers. Shanna grows from a spoiled girl who thinks she knows everything to a compassionate, strong woman. This is a journey to which many of us can relate-we didn't all start out perfect. Ruark does not love Shanna initially, but he does respect the vow of marriage and is determined to honor that bond when his life is spared. He grows to love her, not for her beauty, but for the woman he believes that she will become. The descriptions are fun to read and the book lends some historical adventure to a modern life. This book is meant to entertain, not comment on society. If you want something deep, read Les Miserables (fabulous in a different way), but if you want something fun, this is it!
Rating: Summary: Holli and Kathleen's review Review: The reason I first read a book by Kathleen Woodiwiss, the book was sitting in the library with my same first name, Kathleen. When I opened the book, the first chapter captured my imagination. I took it home and never let it down until it was completed...about 5:30 a.m. in the morning and I had to be to work at 8 a.m. I love Kathleen Woodiwiss books as she transports you to another place that is believable. I love history and Kathleen is historically correct. The costumes and places are wonderful. My daughter Holli has read all her books too and we both agree that Kathleen Woodiwiss is fantastic. Shanna is a character that both Holli and I would like to be like. She is so free to do what she wants to do with such vigar for life. Her husband is too good to be true and everyone would love to have a husband like him. I recently went to a sugar cane plantation and visited the area where Shanna was in the book. When I was in the Bahamas and visited the different islands, the book became even more real. The flowers, the trees, the ocean, and the sea breeze all were so real in the book and even more real once I visited the area. I have read 100's of books and can quickly assume the story in the first few pages. However, in Shanna each chapter has a new twist and no one could imagine the outcome until you read the entire book. Some scenes are quite explicit and I'd never read such a book yet the heroine is married. These scenes fit the character of Shanna. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystery, romance and wants to be transported to a wonderful world outside the hectic pace of life.
Rating: Summary: Shanna Rose Review: I first read this book when I was 18. I knew then it was my all-time favorite, so much so that when my daughter was born 3 years later in December, I named her Shanna Rose. A year or two after that, Ms. Woodiwiss wrote A Rose in Winter.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful fun after all these years. Review: One of my all time favorite books. The dramatic and sexy characters, the lush settings, laughable situations and the action. I read this book, more than 20 years ago. I can still remember staying up at night to read, while my husband and kids were asleep. I was so surprized at the end, that I began reading it again at 4:21 am (to see what clues I had missed). It's been almost 5 years since, I last reread Shanna, it's time to visit, again.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: I thought this book was great. I have never read a story that intriged me as much as this one did. My parents read this book 21 years ago and thought it so good that they named me after it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance.
