Summary: suprisingly all right
Review: The cover, i must say, is fine. Shanna's grievances and actions were trite and foolish. I could just understand Ruark (or whatever his name was) Beauchamp's ire, but not his forgiveness. God, how could he love that brat oif a lady? But, in the end, they seemed fine together. Odd, isn't it? I was fed up with Shanna's plots and spiteful irritations, but, miraculously, in the end, i ended up liking the story. This only tells how wonderful an author Ms. Woodweiss is. Thhe characters were interesting, if a little sterotypical.

Summary: just about my favorite all time book
Review: I must have read this book over 20 years ago and after reading all these review I have decided to re-read it. I bet I love it as much this time as the last time, since it was a story that stayed in my thoughts all of this time.

Summary: The best most well rounded book ever!!!!! 10 stars for sure!
Review: I read this book two years ago and I vividly remember everything about it. It truly is magnificient! I have read every Kathleen book and though all are great, this one is just wonderful. The story is beautiful and the characters enchanting. You will find everything in this book from romance to action, and will fall in love with Ruark! WHAT A MAN! If you are looking for a good book, read this one. I also recommend A ROSE IN WINTER, ASHES IN THE WIND, THE FLAME AND THE FLOWER, and THE WOLF AND THE DOVE...they are also great. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss is absolutely great, she really knows how to tell a story!

Summary: I never understood SHANNA's appeal
Review: I tried to read this book years ago and briefly tried again when it showed up on the 15-cent per paperback stack at my local library because I was hoping to catch the appeal this book has had for so many women. If it has appeal, and many readers have testified that it does, the appeal of SHANNA passed me by.

The story was simply *boring* with a capital B. I made it as far as Ruark's arrival as a worker on Shanna's plantation, then gave up. Ms. Woodiwiss is renowned for her flowery prose, but usually the story is strong enough to make up for wading through a sea of purple. Not this time. I can't pinpoint any one reason. I just lost interest. I couldn't care about the story.

My favorites of Kathleen E. Woodiwiss are A ROSE IN WINTER, THE WOLF AND THE DOVE, ASHES IN THE WIND, and THE FLAME AND THE FLOWER (in that order). SHANNA ranks near the bottom of my list, just before COME LOVE A STRANGER. Give Ms. Woodiwiss a try. While some of her books don't make the grade, some really shine.

Summary: The very best
Review: This was the second book I ever read from Ms. Woodiwiss. The first was The Wolf And The Dove which was recommended by my husband who read it many years ago at the insistence of his mother. I really enjoyed it. When I looked at the readers' reviews of "Shanna" I had to purchase it. I was not disappointed by any means. I absolutely loved it. Actually I loved it more than The Wolf and the Dove. I will never forget the characters Shanna and John Ruark/Ruark Beauchamp. Wow!! The next book I plan to read as I just finished this one, is A Rose in Winter... only because the readers' reviews on that one are also outstanding.

Summary: A romance that spans the ages of time!
Review: Being the hard core Woodiwiss fan, I opened this book over 20 some odd years ago and instantly fell in love with Ruark and Shanna. I can still picture Shanna standing with her arms "akimbo" and wishing I had a love such as Ruark. The book took its place at the top of my Woodiwiss list, beating out "The Wolf and the Dove" and "The Flame and the Flower". Inspired by the characters, I named my first child Shanna 20 years ago and had hoped for a sequel ever since. For my daughter's 21st birthday, I plan to give her the book that I originally fell in love with.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!!!!
Review: When I first purchased this book, I couldn't get past chapter 4..I felt the dialogue was too long and boring, but when I saw it sitting there, unread, on my shelf one day I picked it up again and was enchanted by this wonderful book..I can only say when I first picked it up I must have been crazy to find it boring because now it is one of my favorite books...Kathleen Woodiwiss is the best!

Summary: After the Bible, the most fascinating book I've ever read.
Review: I first read this book nearly 20 years ago. I lent my copy to a friend and never got it back, so I just repurchased it. When I started, I couldn't put it down. With out giving away the ending, let me just say that the first time I read it, I nearly passed out with excitement. All the characters come to life and every page draws me to the next. Don't miss the excitement, the intrege, the drama, the romance and the happiest ending you've ever read. I only wish someone would make it into a movie.

Summary: Excellent Book!!
Review: I have read Shanna many times in the last 20 years and I love it just as much as the first time. I also think that a movie should be make about the book and my sister and I have always wondered who would play Shanna and Ruark. I would love to see a sequel to the book. Maybe we should all get together and write to Kathllen Woodiwiss (my FAVORITE)and suggest a sequel to the BEST Historical romance ever!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: THE BEST ROMANCE EVER!!
Review: Shanna was the first historical romance novel I had the pleasure of reading and twenty years later and hundreds of books later, this one is still my favorite. Kathleen Woodiwiss is a master at keeping the reader interested with her wit and sense of adventure. Kathleen Woodiwiss manages to keep her readers engrossed and highly entertained throughout all of her novels and never fails to conclude them with a twist that the reader doesn't expect. Her books are great reading and will always be my favorites.
