Rating: Summary: First book in the Viking trilogy Review: Lady Brenna Carmarham, a Celtic beauty raised with the fighting skills of a boy, is taken captive by the Vikings, when Anselm Haardrad, who tricked her father by offering his second son to marriage, raided her home. Captured and enslaved, Brenna vows vengeance for her people and promised never to be owned by anyone, most especially Garrick Haardrad, to whom she was given.
As a powerful chieftain's son, Garrick is used to commanding people. After a long voyage trading overseas, he comes home to find Brenna in his bed and learns that she is a gift from his father's. Trouble starts as he finds himself incapable of getting her to submit to his will and this is where the battle starts to see who enslaves whom.
I found this story very engaging and the characters interesting. Brenna's continuous refusal to accept her status of a slave causes the many clashes between her and Garrick. It is exciting to read as you get to see a real battle of wills. While some may be put off by Brenna's constant anger and Garrick's cold-heartedness, we are given good reasons for these - Brenna has known freedom all her life and found it hard to adjust to her new life, while Garrick was hurt by a woman who left him for a wealthy man, which also explains why he has sought wealth for himself at such a young age and why he feels such hate for women in general. It is also this hate that makes the story interesting, as you find yourself fascinated by his actions while he continues to deny his feelings. The way he could be so gentle towards Brenna is a treasure to read. And towards the end, you will appreciate him more as you learn how deeply he cares for her and how much he loves his son.
Some readers commented on the brutality in the book such as the treatment of women, murder, pillaging, but I think you have to keep an open mind and consider the period that this was based on. Such things were normal occurrence in those times. Men ruled over women. And the fact that they did is all the more reason why it's good to see tough heroes soften towards women and eventually fall in love.
You will not be bored with this book and will fall in love with Garrick and Brenna. You can read more of them on Hearts Aflame and Surrender My Love.

Rating: Summary: First in the Trilology Review: One of the most endearing things about Ms. Lindsey's writing is that so many of her books are related to one another, by having the same family of characters appearing in different books. This is the story of the Viking Haardrad clan, and in this first book of three, the patriarch of the clan raids a village in Great Britain and comes home with a woman slave for his son, the Lady Breena. The catch is that this aristocratic Lady believed that she had been promised in marriage to this very same man by her now dead father. A promise that the Viking patriarch is all too happy to annul in his fury at these former enemies. Lady Breena is full of spunk and character, and is easily one of Johanna Lindsey's best heroines. Her "master", Garrick, is less appealing, but their story is heart warming. Future books, Hearts Aflame and Surrender My Love (numbers two and three respectively) carry on with the stories of their children. This is an excellent book and well worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Enduring love always survive Review: Sometimes when people fall in love it is not so obvious and that is why we, the intelligent romance reader, must be able to use the clues the author gives to find that love. This was a great book that made me cry and laugh and hate and love.An emotional rollercoaster is what you will be riding and a romance that will last forever is what you will remember. The leading characters have charm, grace, strength and so much pride. This book will make you sigh and is definitely not a waste of time. The setting is excellent and the history is great. Keep up the good work Johanna and you will be collecting fans for centuries.

The outline of the story is excellent and great descriptions of characters. Johanna, you did a fabulous job with everything.I mostly like the adventures throughout the story.I would recommend this book to those who love romance!!
Rating: Summary: Not One Of Lindsey's Best Review: This book was definetly a disappointment. I don't know about other people's idea of romance. But when the hero rapes the heroine that isn't exactly a great ingredient for love. The characters were interesting and the story flowed well, but I couldn't see why Brenna and Garrick loved each other. I've read all of Lindsey's books, and if you like her work too, I recommend that you pass this one on.
Rating: Summary: a page turning, nail bitiing book Review: this book was good because of all the actions in it. it kept me wondering what will happen next. i liked it. it wasnt a typical love story. i just wish garrick hadnt been so stubborn and stupid. he was hurt once by a previous lover, but he should not hve treated bretta like he did. but when they showed their true feelings for each other (rarely), it was sweet. warning: their is alot of grusome parts and rape and violence, not for the weak at heart.
Rating: Summary: absolutly wonderful! Review: this book was great!it keep me laughing half the time and wanting to bash some viking heads the other half!
