Rating: Summary: More Vikings Please! Review: This is a wonderful romance - I love romances where the heroine is a really strong woman and Brenna is! Humour and adventures throughout the book and a wonderful setting made this, for me, a great JL first read!P.S. Could Amazon please give a list of the sequel books - this would be sooo useful as there is nothing more irritating than realising you have started half way through a series!
Rating: Summary: white-hot! Review: this is jl's best book. garrick is what makes me love vikings. jl, please, more viking books!
Rating: Summary: Terrific! Review: This is my first JL book. Now I have to go out and buy all of the other ones that are rated highly by the readers. I really enjoyed it. I never finish a book in one day but I did this one. This is the first book that made me neglect my household duties for a day, luckily it was a holiday weekend and I still had Monday. Garrick and Brenna were a wonderful match. If you like books that are good right from the beginning, I recommend this one! I especially loved it when Garrick called her Brenna and not mistress. I love it when couples try to resist each other but fail miserably.
Rating: Summary: Keep you awake till the end! Review: This is one of the BEST from Johanna Lindsey! Lady Brenna was captured by the Vikings, the Haardrad Clan. She was promised to Garrick Haardrad as a bride by both fathers. Garrick's father was the leader of the Haardrad clan, Anselm. When Brenna was promised to Garrick, he was trading somewhere. When he came back, Brenna was already captured and presented to him as a gift from Anselm, not as a bride but as a slave. There is a warning for readers who cannot stand rapes and violence as there are some parts of this book whick consist of these. I think that all these were part of the Vikings' way of life then. Despite this, the story is wonderful, with developed characters, especially Brenna. Brenna was a headstrong lass who believed that she could better most men and this was one thing that was most charming about her. Garrick was a bit of a blockhead when it came to the matters of Brenna. You can find sparks flying between the two as they struggled with the feelings of love and hate for each other. This is the story that touched me again and again throughout the book, especially near the end. I find that Johanna Lindsey's other Viking book, "Hearts Aflame" is a great book too. I have not read the last Viking book, "Surrender My Love".
Rating: Summary: One of my all time favorites. Review: This is one of the first romance novels that I read and now I enjoy romance novels written with emotional and historal substance. Since reading this book, I have read all of Johanna Lindsey novels. Although many of them are good - typical Johanna style - gorgeous male and strong female characters with steamy love scenes, this one is one of the best. Brenna and Garrick's growing relationship filled with struggle derived from their strong personalities was completely believable and appropriate. What Brenda had to overcome to get back to Garrick and Garrick's inability to believe her was heart wrenching, especially when the truth came out. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romances that revolve around strong characters.
Rating: Summary: viking romance Review: this is still my favorite johanna lindsey and i've read all of her novels. the brutality is subdued but realistic to the time period. for those individuals who do not like reading about brutal rape and slavery in their romance novels, it would probably be better to read one of her later novels. in this book, the brutality is intrinsic to the story. it is unfortunate that, other than the two sequels she wrote to this book, lindsey has not written anymore in this time period. all three books take together are a fascinating read particularly for those who like the vikings.
Rating: Summary: this is the second Review: this is the second Johanna Lindsey book that i have read. i could not put it down. i hope that anyone who can pick it up to do so. i promise you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Fires of Hell Review: This is thorougly desagreeable book in which the heroine is slaved, raped, punished and repeatly told she should conform to her fate. The hero violates, hurts and humilliates her, then grows angry and resentful because she runs away, mumbling "no woman can be trusted"! Please! Is this your idea of a good novel? In "Fires of Winter", Vikings are treacherous, spiteful men who don't hesitate in breaking their word to get what they want. They raid villages, kill people, enslave women, rape them as an everyday sport - allowing their guests to do the same, of course - and we are supposed to like them! No, thank you. But what enfuriated me most was the way women are showed: they are weak, spineless figures that accept everything without a blink. Their only complaint about the serial rapes promoted at the Viking parties is that too many men at the same day make them sore. The wise woman of the plot, Brenna's aunt, is happy with her position as the lover of the chieftain and friend of his wife, who happens to know her husband goes to other women but think is just his way! Two words: If you're a woman, not a rat, don't read this book.
Rating: Summary: A story that explains love & hate. Review: This story teaches us you how close the line between love & hate really is. I could not put it donw the first time I read it. I have read the next 2 books of this family & don't think you can really understand those until you read this one. I have recommended book to several people and will continue to do so.
Rating: Summary: It's my FAVORITE! Review: This was my first Johanna Lindsay book, and it just encouraged me to go on and read more. Every page was anticipated. It is true that Brenna and Garrick did not get along on the surface, but they felt something much deeper. They were just too proud to admit it. I think that the emotions throughout every chapter were appropiate. I will read this novel over and over. I loved it. And yes there was a violation of human rights in here but people must look at the time period. And also the emotions that took toll on the two characters at the end. I truly love it!!!!
