Summary: An uplifting love story
Review: Erich Segal's enchanting adaption of a love story was refreshing. Its good natured humor, enlightened me to check out some of his other novels.Though the quick change of heart in his writing: the slap in the face reality made the tragedy of Jenny's death harder to take. The mediocore portrayals of Jenny Caviller, and her beau Oliver Barrett IV,the people from the wrong side of the tracks, was magnificiently misled. The reconciliation, and united conclusion, lead me to think Erich Segal believes in second chances.

Summary: Love Story is the best book ever!!
Review: Hey, i'm only 12, but i still loved the book. It is soooo worth spending time on reading it, it makes you laugh, it makes you think about things, and it makes you cry :( You can completetly relate to any of characters even if you r only 7 years old. Erich Segal is a genius!!

Summary: A book worth spending time on!
Review: Well i was suggested this book by my father.I had heard about this book but never thought that i would like it so much,so as to write about it here.Well this is one of the best and the most heart soothing novels read by me.It defines simplicity and compassion -love is not just about staying together in the physical sense..but much more than that!

Summary: Compare and Contrast
Review: A little while ago I read Bret Easton Ellis's refutation of romance and the rich entitled "The Rules of Attraction" and I enjoyed it very much, but it left me confused and I wanted another perspective. "Love Story" is perfect for that job.

I found the socioeconomic implications in the book far more interesting than the romantic ones. Oliver Barret IV is one of the most fascinating characters I've ever read about. Here's where the comparison between "The Rules of Attraction" comes in; the idea that a character like Oliver can forego materialism and superficiality to experience "true love" seemed preposterous after reading Ellis's book, but I liked the shock. It was fun.

"Love Story" is optimistic without being inane, and profound without being pretentious. Oliver Barret's "story" is a paradigm for the (I'm sure) real-life embodiments of Ellis's characters, and while "Love Story" might be unrealistic, it's a good, thought-provoking read. Get it.

Summary: A good but not a great book
Review: "Love Story" is a poignant story that is quite memorable but is missing something. That something lies in Jenny. I liked Oliver but could not warm up to Jenny. I think Segal was too concerned with making her comments very sharp. He did not spend enough time on developing her character. It was hard for me to believe that Oliver could fall in love with her and even harder to comprehend is her supposed love for him. That said, the story is extremely powerful, sad and profound, like all love stories should be.

When other writers write a love story, they include other characters who are just as important as the lovers and there is always a back story to the love story. Segal is able to strip away all that and just leaves us what we want to read in every story -- a love story. He does not go into elaborate descriptions that enhance some other authors' stories. He builds up his story from simple sentences and fundamental emotions that stir people's heart.

To elaborate, I do not mean that I want Jenny to be different. I am perfectly happy with the way she is but the goal of Segal should have been making readers care about Jenny which he did not do well enough. The ending was sad and profound but did not make me want to cry. "Oliver's Story" did that. I think everyone should read "Oliver's Story" first and then re-read "Love Story". They will be moved more.

Summary: LOVE STORY will stay in my heart FOREVER.....
Review: I envy the kind of love OL and JEN have for each other. Their story is the best, up to now, i can't stop myself from crying even though I've read it a lot of times already. I love this book that's why i always have this as a gift to the people who are so dear to me. This is my favorite book and I know I need not explain why...

Summary: emotionally captivating
Review: Love Story is one of the best examples of a real relationship that I have ever read. It was so real and personal. I could easily read the love involved between these two people. I have never seen a love that was so true as that of Jenny and Oliver. I cry every time I read it, and I can never put it down until it's complete.

Summary: beautiful, but why?
Review: When I first read this one I wasn't really impressed. Since I'm not the insensitive type I was a little surprised to find myself almost completely unaffected by this one, but it didn't bother me much. Then a few months later I had to study for my finals, but at one point I got so bored with electric circuits I just picked up this book (absolutely innocuously) and opened up any page and read a few paragraphs and before I knew it I had turned to the very beginning of the book and was rereading it. And this time it really haunted me - but the most haunting thing about it is that I can't explain why! The narrative and the dialogue are not very sentimental(which is good, I hate excessive sentiment), the two protagonists are far from being 'models'(which I suppose is actually a strength), and the story is much too short. But it certainly is powerful, and like I said, I just can't explain what's behind it.
