Rating: Summary: Boring-Save Your Money Review: This book was a big disappointment as well as a waste of time and money. I have read the entire Dark Series which was interesting as well as exciting and very difficult to put down. Lair of the Lion was just the opposite dull, boring and I had to make myself continue to read. There wasn't much chemistry between the main characters and I did not care about them or their problems. Also, the evil presence should have been more fully developed. I hope Ms. Feehan's next book will be written with the flair and style that I have come to love an expect. This book was rated two stars because I finished it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Story - I highly recommend Review: I must admit I just love Christine Feehan's writing style. I have enjoyed every one of her novels and would actually highly recommend anything she writes. I especially loved this story and the characters. Isabella Vernaducci is an aristocrat and she needs help. Her brother has been imprisoned by an enemy and she needs him rescued before he is killed. She has nowhere to turn, so she decides to go to the home of Don Nicolai DeMarco and plead her brother's case. Don Nicolai DeMarco is a very rich and powerful aristocrat. He is also cursed. He meets Isabella and offers to save her brother if she agrees to live in his home and marry him. She agrees. Now Isabella and Don DeMarco will have to work together to solve this curse before it kills Isabella like it has every other DeMarco women who has loved the DeMarco men. Excellent excellent story. I highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: Hard to Finish Review: I purchased this book even though other reviewers warned me. I like Feehan's Dark Series so much I didn't believe any of her books could be bad. Well, I was wrong. I could barely get past the first 100 pages without skipping over an endless array of boring passages. Then I wound up skipping entire chapters and finally skipping to the end. This is an extremely dull read that moves at a snail's pace with so much angst and pseudo-terror that I could barely stand the story line. Maybe a true lover of dark, gothic tales would like this, but that's not me, so I would recommend skipping this and saving your money for Ms. Feehan's Dark Series which are absolutely great reads and breathtakingly sensuous.
Rating: Summary: I Couldn't Finished It. Review: I absolutely love Ms. Feehan's Dark Series, and that's why I bought this one. But I just couldn't finish it. Maybe I'll change the rating later...if I ever pick it up again and can finish it, but it's one of the few I had to put down after a while. It didn't hold my interest long enough.
Rating: Summary: An enjoyable read. Review: I really enjoyed this-it was quite unusual and not heavy handed in terms of the supernatural elements. There were a couple of bad bits like the romance scenes being a bit too wooden and lacking in sensuality, and his long mane of golden hair flowing all over the place got to be a bit silly after a while. The Don was also a bit too Alpha male at times, but given his nature and the curse that is to be forgiven.
Rating: Summary: OOO La La! Review: Christine, you have written a masterpiece - don't believe what the negative reviewers have said about your book. I was mesmerized by this intriguing story of love, betrayal, lust, and revenge. Yes, the story did drag on and on a little, and she did wrap a lot of loose ends in the last few pages, but these novels are always about the journey. Personally, this book was very good, it kept me interested, and I had a hard time putting it down. I just fell in love with Isabella. She was such a beauty in a very dark place, and she was strong, assertive, bold, audacious, and she did it all with grace. All I can say is "bring a box of kleenex with you when you read this book, even if (especially if) you expect to read in public. Isabella is a true heroine.
Rating: Summary: Tripe Review: What utter tripe. I was expecting a dark, steamy medievel romance, but got BORING garbage instead. This book was horrible. I was hoping Isabella would get eaten by a lion or that Nicolai would end up spread out on a taxidermist's table.
Rating: Summary: Save Your Money Review: This book was a read disappointment. It was loosely based on Beauty & the Beast. I could hardly get thru it and I have 2 friends that stopped reading after only half of the book. Read her Carpathian Series, it's great.
Rating: Summary: Ms Feehan Does It Again Review: It is amazing that Ms Feehan can continue to write such passionate, intriguing, and romantic stories after all this time. Most authors seem to burn out or are to rushed to write with the passion that start with. Ms Feehan has written a fresh and wonderful story of love, compassion, understanding and a willingnes to do anything to free the one you love from a terrible curse. Isabella is a strong, independent and intelligent women. Who comes to Don DeMarco to get his help in freeing her brother. When the Don proposes that she stay as his bride in exchange for his help she agrees. She realizes that there are dark forces at work in the castle and that she is the focus of those forces. She maintains an open mind and willingness to see past the stories and rumors to find the truth. She comes to care deeply for Nicolai and the people of the DeMarco stornghold. Nicolai agrees to help Isabella free her brother never guessing that this young women will become to key to his salvation. He has a terrible secret that he knows will drive her away or lead to her death, but he cannot send her away. He grows to love her and knows they must find a way to be together. The story is fast paced, with humor and lots of intrigue. I read the book in record time. I recommend any of Ms Feehan's books. She is a wonderful writer and continues to write great stories.
Rating: Summary: Haunting, Erotic, Memorable Gothic Romance! Review: "Lair of the Lion" by Christine Feehan is a compelling gothic romance perfect for curling up with on a cold winter night. I became utterly absorbed in the story right from the start, and Feehan's passionate storytelling kept me turning pages well into the night. The main characters are intriguing and well matched, and Feehan's take on the classic Beauty and the Beast tale becomes something original and wickedly enticing under her talented hand. "Lair of the Lion" is an all-around solid effort that is sure to be enjoyed by a wide range of romance readers. Isabella Vernaducci is a courageous young aristocrat who has had everything that once belonged to her family stolen away by the ruthless and power-hungry Don Rivellio. On top of that, the pitiless Don has imprisoned her brother Lucca and sentenced him to death. Desperate to save her brother, Isabella makes the treacherous journey to the home of the powerful and mysterious Don Nicolai DeMarco in the Italian Alps. Don DeMarco is the only man who can save Lucca's life, but no outsider has ever survived the journey to his palazzo. Supposedly the victim of a terrible curse, Don DeMarco is rumoured to have the ability to control the heavens and to make the beasts on earth do his bidding. But when Isabella arrives at the palazzo of Don DeMarco, she meets a man unlike any other she has ever met. His intense tawny eyes, flowing mane of hair, and devilishly handsome face make her heart pound double time. Though his commanding presence fills Isabella with fear, she is undeniably drawn to Don Nicolai. And she does not see the monstrous and heartless beast of legend when she looks at Nicolai, but a dedicated and compassionate man who has worked tirelessly for his people. Don Nicolai DeMarco promises to save Isabella's brother on one condition, that she becomes his wife. Though the palazzo is a less than hospitable place, with huge lions roaming all around and permeated by a dark and malevolent presence, Isabella is captivated by Nicolai. But she soon finds out that the DeMarco curse is no legend, but a grim reality. Though she can see Nicolai as a handsome man, all others see him as a beast, a beast that is destined to destroy the woman he loves. But Isabella won't give up so easily on the man she has fallen in love with, and resolves to find a way to break the curse. Nicolai and Isabella's romance is portrayed in typical Feehan fashion, it's incredibly erotic, passionate and beautifully tender (and you may need to open a window to cool off while reading the love scenes). Unfortunately, danger awaits Isabella at every turn and she's going to need every ounce of courage she possesses to save both herself and the man she loves. Unexplainable "accidents" occur almost daily, and they're all directed at Isabella. Feehan builds the suspense very effectively, and Isabella and Nicolai must stand together against the evil that seeks to destroy them, and hope that their love will be strong enough to triumph. Will Isabella find a way to defeat the curse and banish the evil that haunts the valley? Or will she end up sacrificing her life and Nicolai's soul? "Lair of the Lion" is a wonderful historical romance filled with passion, thrills, chills, and intrigue. The atmosphere is unabashedly dark, brooding, and, well, gothic, so if you are not a fan of gothic fiction this isn't going to be your cup of tea. Personally, I thought it was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the gothic flavour of it all. Feehan has created a fascinating cast of rich and vivid characters, from the irresistible and charismatic hero, Nicolai, to his misunderstood and charming sister, Fransesca. The palazzo itself is a fabulous labyrinth of hidden passageways and shadowy corridors, providing the perfect setting for this riveting tale. "Lair of the Lion" is a tantalizing and suspenseful tale of first-rate gothic romance, and I recommend it whole-heartedly.
